  1. In the past I’ve tried treats for retrieving and it’s just made the dog drop short. I find tug training brilliant for training recall and then retrieve training. Make sure you have the leave it command in place before getting serious with tug training. It’s great letting the dog win now and again but once he has it run backward calling him or whistle ( use a Gundog whistle if you want) to you then grab the toy in his mouth and carry on playing tug with him. Whilst playing you should tell him to leave it make him sit/stay walk back few paces and call him to you make him sit looking at the toy

  6. A long time ago in World long forgotten I had a young JB bred bitch that surprisingly made 24” at the shoulder. I went for a mooch about one Saturday afternoon/ Evening with the pup just over a year old and the old dog who was 10. We circled round the farm so we could come up to the hotspot with the wind in our faces. We dodged through the wood because two men could be seen around the the barn that was being built in an adjacent field even then people didn’t like our way of life. The pup was off her lead but the old dog firmly on a slip because frankly he’s a dick. Just into the wood and a Coc
  7. Its basically a pole with a rope tied to it with some short of dummy tied to the loose end of the rope. Then basically move the pole about so the dummy is moving on the floor with the dog chasing it. You will need to set the ground rules first, like leave on command sit/stay etc which can be worked into the session. If you decide to do it don't go to hard to start with need to build up slowly its a good workout for them also. Have a look on Youtube for some ideas. I quite enjoy doing things like this with my sapling also do tug training with her all good for bonding and engagement. One day I
  8. If shes not interested in tennis balls maybe try her with a flirt pole. Nothing to much just a few minutes to start with. I've had pups before not really interested in balls but go wild for flirt pole. I think it helps them with striking and also good for helping with retrieve. Have fun with her and try not to get frustrated which isn't easy sometimes. It will all work out in the end.
  9. Not much to report atm mate, been running out the net in the day with her just sit/stay thats no problem. I'm back from work in December so hopefully be out and about a bit more with her and have something to share.

  11. Definitely loads of different ideas on dog training out there. Just mention tug training on a gun dog forum, a lot of the traditional trainers can get quite angry ?
  12. This is worth a read. It’s a bit wordy but stick with it Also totally agree with tug training but you have to keep it up and try and work it in daily routine.
  13. It takes a lot of effort to train a pup. I’ve got the wife doing 4 - 1/2 half sessions a day with my dog. But have to say the effort is definitely worth it ?
  14. Nice looking pup and good luck with him.
  15. Am I right in thinking that Welsh Collie and Welsh Sheepdog are a totally different breed?
  16. I’m sure my bitch pup has Welsh Working Collie in it ?

  19. FFS I’ve just bought a load of Rosemary plants for the garden.
  20. Anyone do this? Rosemary - if dogs get thorns or scrapes. Boil some rosemary in water, let it cool and soak the dog's paw in it. Wash the wound, leave it in the water for about 10 minutes. You'll see an almost immediate improvement. If the dog licks to dry his paw, rosemary is a painkiller, is good for digestion and also removes parasites. Also anyone have any natural health remedies that they use.
