  1. Cheers, she worker to worker bred. But has Collie, Sal , deerhound and greyhound and probably a lot more in the mix along the way. I was also told there’s something called Bowline from a few generations back ?
  2. 8 months or so now. Probably levelled out around 22-1/2” TTS. Can’t see her getting any taller but you never know. Hopefully turns into a decent little hunter/companion.
  3. Pigeons have extremely loose feathers and can mess up a dog retrieve very easily. A guy once told me to cut the corner off a plastic bag and poke the pigeons head through for training. He reckoned it would make the dog retrieve the pigeon by its head only. He said dogs don’t like the feeling of a plastic bag in their mouths!!! I never did give it ago, my dog at the time used to nick any plastic carrier bags left laying around and rip them to shreds if given the chance.
  4. She’s around 8 months or so, not done a lot with her yet tbh. Just working on obedience and bit of retrieving but she’s definitely interested in feathers.
  5. I’ll take that Phil. I love nothing more than a mooch about the countryside and hopefully this pup might catch something now and again lol.
  6. I intend to Fred. The more strings to her bow the better, well that’s the plan anyway. In the past a Lurcher dog I had didn’t mind pheasants but refused to retrieve pigeon because of the loose feathers. Just ended up standing over them with a gob full of feathers lol. That was when I used to shoot though. See how she goes but I do like roast pheasant for Sunday dinner?
  7. Mines almost cat like lol.
  8. Have you discouraged her or just her focus changes?
  9. Yes good shout, there’s one 15mins up the road. I will definitely do that?
  10. Yes mate I know she’ll be a year old, I won’t be rushing her and will probably just hang around to begin with see how she reacts.
  11. I totally agree, I’ll be more than happy if she can nab a few. I’m not that fussed about numbers of any quarry really, just like watching a dog work.
  12. Hello mate hope you’re well? Yeah that sounds like a plan definitely will be encouraging her. I might get into beating again but see how she goes ,she’s a bit sensitive but seems to be getting more and more confident. Maybe a shoot day will be pushing it a bit but she’s still young yet.
  13. Yeah I get that ,but wouldn’t mind her pinning a few pheasants now and again.
  14. My pup seems obsessed with birds and is constantly trying to nail them in the garden. I’m hoping she doesn’t grew out of it and accidentally nabs a few pheasants on our mooches. Anyone else’s dog take to feathers?
  15. A bit of heat can make a dog look out of shape. Especially if heavy build and heavy coat type.
  16. As of most things nowadays the minority can spoil it for others. Also with trial by Social Media and a lot of people thinking all hunting with dogs is illegal the odds are stacked against you. I’ve never gained any permission solely for working lurchers it was gained by shooting. Once “in” with the landowner it was a case of bringing the dog along. I’ve sold my guns some years ago and I’m happy to just mooch around Dartmoor watching the dogs work.
  17. My dream is a log cabin on my own bit of land out in the sticks with a log burner and no neighbours. Obviously with SKY Tv and a jacuzzi round the back though.
  18. My 2 can be left together now no problem. Until her first season but that’s another problem.
  19. I totally get where you are coming from. I’ve not long introduced a pup to the household all be it an older dog to a bitch pup and my daughters not a kid. I think you are doing right by checking her behaviour. I reckon she’s just letting the pup know who’s boss. Tbh I was worried about my 2 but they are fine now. My older dogs still bares his teeth at her and properly lets her know when he’s had enough but never crosses the line. I was on edge for a week or so but actually missed the sign one day when the old dog flew at the pup and I thought the pup was a gonna. But the dog just let her know
  20. The older dog will want its space, it doesn’t want a pup invading it. She’s more than likely just setting boundaries for the pup. I think it’s very rare that an older dog will actually attack a pup but you or the wife will need to be on top of things. It might take some time but pretty sure it will work out.
  21. Stick with it if you can. Hopefully it works out?
  22. Cheers, she’s worker to worker bred collie, Sal and not 100% sure tbh. Parents doing their jobs and thought I’d give her a go. I’ll just be mooching about and bit of lamping nothing to serious. She’s about 8 month and around 22” TTS.
  23. Mine to bring on next season, won’t be doing to much with her nice and steady with this one.
