  1. similar idea as a shock collar really and I can see how a catty can work in the same way. The dog can still be corrected at a distance.
  2. Ha ha, got to be honest sometimes I could do a lot worst than use s catty Truther.
  3. None taken Walt, yes it's the style I like.
  4. Spot on mate, look forward to seeing it finished.
  5. Thanks for the replies lads, think I'm sorted now.
  6. Has anyone got a wood or antler catty for sale? A small type that fits in a jacket pocket would be ideal and with therabands.
  7. Really like the sound of this cross and not really heard any bad reports about them. Definitely a type I will be trying in the future.
  8. Use a gun dog slip lead, pit your left hand in where the dogs head should go and tighten the loop up around your wrist. Put the loop where you should normally put your hand through around the dogs neck then pull the lead through the same part and hold it with the your left hand. When you can keep it tight to control the dog but when you let go it comes away totally from the dog but is still attached to your wrist. Easy to show do but not easy to explain.
  9. Looked on the net, there is a site k9active that have quite a few different types of boot. Been having problems with my dogs feet so think I am going to order some and give them a try it might reduce the downtime I keep getting just lately. Btw thanks for the info paul.
  10. Thanks Neal, been having a few probs with the dogs feet getting cuts etc I don't think there's much more I can do its just down to luck more than anything.
  11. If it was my pup it would be a combination of both methods of exercising the dog.
  12. I only take mine hunting occasionally the rest of the time it just walks around on carpet all day so they become quite soft, so looking for an easy fix.
  13. If they are those boots from the pet store there's no risk of catching anything as well.
  14. Just done a bit of research on the net and came up with a product called Mushers secret it's a wax product that you rub in and it forms a protective film on the pad. It is used a lot on Sled dogs as the name suggests. Has anyone used it before? Not sure if it will help with cuts or it's more for just for worn cracked pads.
  15. Is it painful for the dog driving the quick back though? It's very difficult to see the quick if the dog has really dark nails.
  16. I have seen quite a few roe taken in woodland but agree with what's already been stated the dog can pay with cuts and knocks especially to their feet. Never at night though that would scare the sh@t out of me.
  17. Good stuff King and Blackbuck I will be trying the surgical spirit trick when the feet have fully healed.. Thanks for the advice.
  18. Thanks for your replies lads, The nails do look long but they are as short as they can be without cutting the quick. I have never needed to cut his nails due to exercising him and vet says there is no issue with length of them Just seems to keep happening recently. He gets a fair bit of road work when I'm away so must be just down to bad luck.
  19. Shouldn't kick the dog so fecking hard then.
  20. Having a few problems with the dogs feet, is there anything I can do to condition them more. I hunt woodland and recently having trouble with deep cuts and a smashed nail. I understand it's part and parcel of a working dog but do I just stop hunting in this place or is there more I can do?Also what breeding of lurcher has the toughest feet or is it just down to luck. I work away and hardly got out with dog this time off and it's getting annoying. Any constructive comments welcome.
  21. Your right j1985 think I was looking for a miracle to get him out and about again as soon as possible.
  22. Just had the same with my dog but not as bad. Took him to vet and she told me to keep it clean wash out with salt water and don't bandage it. So sounds like your doing right but if in doubt take the dog to the vet. She also prescribed metacam and rest completely for 5/7 days. Hope this helps but as I said wasn't quite as bad as that looks.
