  1. I'll get a decent pic of him and attempt to post it.
  2. Mine looks like a massive bedlington terrier on steroids, looks quite heavy but no problems catching rabbits.
  3. I have one 31/2 now. Good lamping and ferreting dog and I'm positive he would be good on other quarry if given the chance but certainly wouldn't be a hare dog. Quite headstrong and had a tough time with him to start with but he's settled down to be a handy dog to have around. Had a problem with retrieve but seem to have sorted that now. I had him from 14 weeks from a guy off here the sire was half cross bull greyhound and dam half cross bedlington grey. Gives 100% and i have seen him pull off some heart in the mouth catches when he had no right to catch but has and come away uninjured. Tough
  4. Good news Giro, need to strike while the irons hot.
  5. I'm sure they have been fighting SL but maybe not as much as they should have. I understand where your coming from but as far as I know the meeting with the CA went well and that's why the club has been resurrected. For me it's got to worth a punt.
  6. If more lurcher owners join the AWL and the CA then maybe we will be a higher priority Scottish lurcher.
  7. Why all the bitching and moaning, people wanted a club and a way to try and get across to Non hunting and some other type of hunting folk what lurcher work is about and maybe change the way these people think about us. What the club has or hasn't done in the past is exactly that in the past. Either get behind it or don't, I for one will be.
  8. Really annoys the sh@t out of me that we are portrayed as the bad guys. Yet people who don't exercise their dogs and over feed them so they become seriously over weight so they can barely walk aren't punished just 'educated'. Hunting dogs in general are fed the best have regular exercise and have a purpose in life yet the RSPCA can't wait to force a prosecution through just because they disapprove of hunting.
  9. Some Hares will be confused by the lamp and are easy, just the same as any other prey that would have been lamped pre ban, some easy, some not so easy.
  10. Maybe wrong ,but not to long ago 6 weeks was normal for taking pups.
  11. I use a cluson Blazerlight which is the 1mil candle power version of the lazer light (500,000 candle )no issues with it.
  12. Do spayed bitches work the same as ones that haven't?
  13. Maybe the committee put forward a few names for the club then have a vote on here and let the members decide.
  14. I stand corrected DB.Good luck I hope the club comes together very soon and can promote all types of lurcher work.
  15. So what your saying DB is that organised coursing was part of why the ban was bought in? and being part of a club that promotes it is pointless All I posted was it might be a good idea to try and portray lurcher owners in better way and try and lift the image a bit. Not once did I mention organised coursing. For me a club should want to promote all types of hunting with lurchers and not just Hare coursing as long as it's not organised as you seem to want to. I hope I haven't got the wrong end of the stick but that's how it comes across to me.
  16. Maybe they wanted to portray themselves as law abiding citizens and change the way that members of the general public see lurcher owners. Not a bad idea really.
  17. Good point Desert Bred, but Alan Tyler's ( courser) post sums up my way of thinking. The club is there it just needs likeminded people all pulling in the same direction. The last thing we need is people bickering I guess that's why a lot of these types of ideas fall over before they even get up and running. Which ever route you guys decide on I will join and support.
  18. You beat me to it Leeviee, surely it would be quicker for some fresh input into the ALC than to start from scratch again.
  19. How and where can the ALC be joined, if there is a club already formed with a structure in place do we need another one ?
  20. That's about where I am with mine Maximus.
  21. The thing is I have trained my dog not to touch sheep and cats etc so it really should be possible but I just haven't tried its part of hunting for me.
  22. After reading some of the posts in other recall thread, how many people can call their dog off something if it's in mid chase, I for one can't. No matter if I had a fillet steak as a reward. No issue at park or somewhere with no game. No issue lamping returns if miss run and retrieves pretty well.. I except this as normal daytime hunting, am I wrong? The dog has always returned so far if he loses his prey or catches it.
  23. Jiggy totally agree with you but many things can ruin a dog if done incorrectly. I'm not talking about zapping the dog constantly just at the right time and just at the setting where the dog is irritated by the shock and not hurt. There is definitely a fine line from using one correctly and ruining your dog.
  24. I have used a long lead in the past to good effect, but you can surely damage the dog if it runs full pelt and your hanging onto the end of the rope. It seems to be frowned upon by a lot of people but isn't a shock collar a better solution than a long lead.? If a shock collar is used at the correct setting and used properly they are an excellent piece of kit.
  25. Davey, is there deer around where you took the dog? From reading your post it seems to me that the pup has had a smell of something and given chase. Deer can give a dog the run around especially in Forestry and the chase is very rewarding for dog. It's difficult to stop a dog from chasing deer and to call one off if it's giving chase is difficult for high prey drive dogs. You have to try and read your dog and do your best to get it back to you before it takes offf. Or stay away from areas you know hold deer.
