  1. I understand that j1985 but what I'm getting at is do they work the same way do they have the same characteristics or are they totally different like a collie based lurcher is to a saluki based one.
  2. Apart from their coats, do lurchers bred with bull or wheaten differ much. Both Bull and Wheaten seem to be similar types of dog. Or do they bring totally different attributes to a lurcher.
  3. Rabbit skin, soft toy anything. The idea is to tease the dog with it making him run, jump twist and turn. Let him catch it sometimes. Take it easy at first if your dogs not used to it. Great help for keeping them fit. There's some clips on YouTube give you the idea.
  4. Imo,Paulus is spot on. I believed for a long time immigrants and people on benefits where to blame for the state of the country but it's not true. There's more money lost by tax evasion by the elite than the small amount paid to people claiming benefits. The rich get richer and the poor get shit on.
  5. It's about doing your homework and getting the right dogs to cross in the first place as has been stated earlier in the thread.
  6. It's called exercise induced collapse or EIC it is prevelant in golden retrievers and all colours of Labradors but especially field trial bred types. I had never heard of it either but Google is a wonderful thing.
  7. I personally keep mine ticking over just out and about a bit. I like to get him down the river or along the coast if weather gets hot. He hates the heat being heavy coated so early mornings and late evenings.
  8. Nice one thanks for that, I think I will give one a go.
  9. Anyone using electronic calls if so with what results and what type. Any info appreciated.
  10. Is anybody using electronic fox calls If so with what results and what type is best. Any info would be appreciated thanks.
  11. Looking at Australian Cattle Dogs you wouldn't think they would bring anything to the table but did ok by all accounts.
  12. If we are talking hares then lab cross would be last type I would go for. I was just thinking it would make a useful no nonesense rabbiting dog. Maybe use it for a bit of rough shooting as well not for an out coursing dog when there are much better crosses out there for that job.
  13. Slippery weasel Labs I've seen are mainly used for picking up on shoots, basically standing waiting until sent to pick up shot birds and looking for pricked birds that have run on and hidden. They work totally different from springers that are a lot more intense and are on the go all day smashing through cover and are constantly on the move. Labs are generally steady and reliable that's why I think they would make good cross for ferreting partners and would have plenty drive and stamina for lamping rabbits.
  14. I think lab cross whippet/ grey would take some beating for the rabbiting game pretty sure It could be ok for rough shooting and generally knocking about with. Something I am definitely going to look into in the future.
  15. Not as highly strung and sensitive as some collie types and a bit more forgiving ,steady temperament. Could Make retrieving easier, soft mouth. But I don't know that's why I started the thread.
  16. This type sounds more than adequate for lamping and ferreting rabbits seems strange that there doesn't seem many people working them now. Not one bad post about the cross, it seems most were bred quite a few years ago and because not such a popular cross today they haven't been ruined just yet.
  17. Getting to like the idea of this cross more and more.
  18. Dodger was the half cross quick enough on the lamp for rabbits?
  19. I have seen some stunning looking Labs picking up on various shoots racey strong looking types coats absolutly gleaming and loving their jobs ,put to grey/whippet as u say would most likely be ideal and def a good starting point anyway.
  20. i think something along those lines would be ideal for a knockabout lurcher bird. Plenty of good healthy working labs around not sure if some folk would want their highly trained working lab crossed with some old greyhound though. Its not the done thing you know old boy.
  21. I have only heard good things about this cross, but there must be a reason why they are not popular. It could be that they just don't look the part.
