Braw Weather For A Walk( Pic Heavy )
white van man replied to Joe1888's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Same here mate I own his brother. He would run all day if you let him. Had him out ferreting a couple of times but taking it easy too. Some nice open ground up there that should suit him. -
Braw Weather For A Walk( Pic Heavy )

Nice joe. How's the pup coming on? -
It was tricky Sean because for some reason our side of the hedge was knee deep in mud!! Only had the chance to take a few pics because our side were pretty busy setting up purse nets and dispatching all the rabbits we were catching!! Will ask Kev if I can go on your side next but he will probably say no incase I pick up any bad habits!!

Cheers Vin. He's been a treat so far. He's just over 23" at 7 months so hopefully he will stop growing soon!! Hard to keep the weight on him but he's now filling out. Those pics were his second time out with the ferrets and he did really well. Chip off the old block!

Update On Pup Around 3 Months
white van man replied to LurcherLad94's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As said mate get yourself some decent wormers. The ones from off the shelf don't do the job. I had the same problem with my pup. I feed raw so I got a decent wormer and increased the feed, especially the mince meat. Maybe try add a bit of pasta to the mix? -
Penny Taylor 'skycat' has put a decent article in the CMW Christmas edition. There's a few different views. A point she brought up was if the dog has been grafting then don't feed a big meal straight after and recommended a small high fat/protein feed followed by the big feed the next day. Suppose it all depends on what time you start and finish lamping? And as some on here work there dogs a more nights than not then when would they find time to feed! Personally once my pup is up and running next season I will feed the morning before, a small meal when I get in from lamping and a big feed the

Looking good now Nigel and really taking shape! Will get out for a walk soon. Will give you a bell

Like you said she went everywhere with you!! She never left your side all day and I reckon we did a good 15 miles.
-
Gutted for you mate. She was a lovely dog and my lad was really upset when I told him the news. We were looking forward to a walk out with you on the weekend. See you on Sunday for a beer.

What are you hoping to get from the Wheaton that your dog hasn't got? It sounds like your dog has the balls already! I know using him will throw big pups etc but it depends what you are after as an end result. I would be tempted to stud him out to a decent bitch as described and have pick of the litter unless your dead certain of breeding from your greyhound bitch.

He looks a big strong dog! How tall is he? If he's suited you then stick with him. At least you know exactly what he has done.

Best Pic Of One Of Your Lurcher
white van man replied to the big chief's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Out on Dartmoor the weekend. Saluki collie grew. 6 months old and just reached 23". Litter brother to joe1888 in prev post. -
Meeks. Mine is for the work place but work only asked for him to be fully comp so you might have different rules. It would put payment up!
-
I'm with pet plan too. Easy to sign up and £9.50 fully comp a month as a collie cross. As Gaz says they deal straight with the vet.

Blood Shot Eyes

Thanks robs. I wash the bedding and have 2 sets. Might change the powder for something not so strong. Vet will have a look if not on Monday. Thanks for the advice pal -
Blood Shot Eyes
white van man replied to white van man's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Cheers socks. Yes she's coming up early next week if it's still the same. She's a good vet and has running dogs. It comes and goes and tonight he looks fine. Was thinking it might be the bedding or even the washing powder. -
Just wandering if anyone has some decent advise. I have a 5 month old lurcher pup. Over the last couple of weeks he every now and then developes runny eyes (yellow greenish puss). This is mainly in the morning and isn't everyday. His eyes are also sometimes bloodshot with no puss. The vet suggested cold black tea but it's still happening. If it carries on I will see the vet again next week. He is fed on BARF and sleeps inside on vet bed and a old duvet. It doesn't bother him at all. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance. WVM

Joe, I wouldn't worry too much about the weight thing. I'm having the same problem with blue (glens brother). He puts it on then seems to shed it. I have upped his food but he doesn't put weight on. My vet runs saluki lurchers and she said he is in top condition. I think it's just their make up. He doesn't look skinny but I do prefer a bit more weight on a pup.
-
Wouldn't say experience but I have seen one work a few times. Not sure of its complete make up but think along the lines of collie grey/foxhound grey but you could see the foxhound in her. The dog looked quite racey and woul say about 26". Seen it lamp a few times and it caught....if it didn't then it always would hunt up but that can be a fault in any dog. It was used mainly for daytime anyway pre ban and worked well with the terriers especially if something was flushed. How racey was the bull x used? as this could also add to it being a heavy dog?

He looks a little cracker!! Mine is 5 months already and time flies. Just tried to PM you ref getting out for a bimble. Inbox might need emptying
