I will be seeing him over the summer Phil. Will keep you posted. He knows his stuff and been training dogs for years and isn't one to boast. Will see you in Salisbury soon hopefully.

Heard a few people say they had poodle/grey and pretty game dogs krawnden? Rare x though Mine was shaping up to be a great allrounder, but unfortunately got killed on the road aged 21 months, so in all fairness I couldn't say he'd been thoroughly tested. But he was fast, agile, had good coat and feet and used his nose well. Was great with ferrets and sensible around the nets, had taken daytime hare, muntjac and roe and had retrieved his first goose from the water (I do a bit of wildfowling). It's also a distinct possibility that he caught the very last legal hare in this country - or at the

Yeah I'm taking it easy with him D. Been having trouble with my ankle and had to have it operated on. 2 1/2 month on crutches which isn't ideal. Had people walking the pup for me and I have been cracking on with the basics. Get some funny looks standing in a field with my crutches! Mainly wear and tear with the ankle but having to carry Kev around everywhere hasn't helped!! He doesn't like getting his new boots dirty when we are out lamping. Hope your well?

Few Pics Out With My Pup Last Night And A Near Miss
white van man replied to flipbull's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I wouldn't rush it mate. Mine is jumping now but at 6 months he had never jumped anything more than 2ft high. I give him the odd retrieve with a small jump in the way. I still only let him jump a few things at 8 months. -
Cheers bird. He's one of dean flutes litter.

Couldn't afford him dean so spent £7 on a book! You out with the pup this weekend?

How Much Tripe?
white van man replied to white van man's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I have been using that before I managed to get fresh stuff. It still smells and sais on package 100% but it's 90p a pack. -
I've always had collie based dogs so thought I might be in for a challenge. My pup only has 1/8 collie and 1/4 saluki but not had any of the problems people say.......unless they are still to come!! I read a few books and realised the ones that worked for me had nothing to do with lurchers. A dog is a dog and the basics are the basics I reckon which I wanted to get right before anything. I was recommended a book by a mate the other week called 'don't shoot the dog' wish I had read it a year ago instead of all the lurcher books. I think it was me that needed the most training!
-
Knack...I'm not one of them mate wish I was....a lot of reading up and asking mates as I have been out the game a few years. Never had a dog with saluki in it so fancied a change. Was good to see retrieves and good for the dog to put it all together.

I have been lucky to spend a lot of time with him especially with being on crutches the last few weeks. I don't do much training each day. Prob 30 mins broken down into 5 mins or so. The rest is walks and being a pup. There's time yet terryd. Cheers flipbull. I don't really push the jumping. A couple a day tops. I didn't really do any jump training before 6 months tbh
-
Might try and get up this month. Having my cast off on Friday so will be able to get out more. How's the pup?
-
Thanks lads. He won't be over doing it. We got plenty of time over the summer ready for the season.
-
My pup is now 8 months and things seem to be coming together. We have had our moments but tbh he's been a treat to train so far and is now starting to take shape. Have been working on the basics especially his retrieve. He has had a good couple of ferreting trips and has also had a couple of daytime rabbits that we come across whilst out walking. Both were retrieved to hand. Have done some jump training but little and often and he is retrieving dummies on the lamp. I ended up on crutches which has slowed things down but have just kept with the basics until I'm back on my feet. Happy so far and

How Much Tripe?
white van man replied to white van man's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I thought it was the norm to be able to get it but having spoken to a few people then obviously not. I get my mince and bones off him so he give me a load of tripe to try. The dog liked it so will add to his food. I only pay for mince beef and pasta now. Fish I catch, chicken carcass I get from butcher and rabbit from ferreting/lamping. Greens from what's left from our plates. -
How Much Tripe?
white van man replied to white van man's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Thanks bob. I will just be adding as you say. Just wanted to know what others do as didn't want to vet do it. I will just cut it into pieces and add to each meal. The tripe comes straight from slaughter house so is not processed. Stinks the house out but dog seems to like it! -
I have a source for green tripe and am going to start feeding it to the dog. He is already on a BARF diet and is fed twice a day. 24" tts. Just wanting to know how much tripe you would feed each day? ATB

it not everybody goes out all night rob but I know you mean 22amp lithium an striker hard to beat yeah mate i had the 14ah lithium with lightforce 170 get comfortable 4 hours with it but will upgrade to the 22ah when i got the money, suppose if you only want quick walk out they good bit kit I got a similar model. Like you say ideal for a quick shine about and a few runs. Comes in handy as a spare if your main lamp packs in whilst out on the ground. I use mine for training the pup saves carting the bigger battery out. Nice and easy straight in the pocket.

Chid21 is the one to ask mate. There was a thread not so long back and he was working them out. He also sent % of mine. I only asked because people were asking me how much saluki and collie was in my pup!
-
Here you go trig. This is her brother.
-
She's looking good Dean. I thought she looked a bit more heavily set than the mum.
-
Dean. As dodger said mate a lot of sheep are in lamb now so farmers will be twitchy. If you find a half decent farmer near you then he might let you take the dog around the Rams If he has split them from the ewes. Take her out on footpaths on a long lead that way if she does go then no harm done. It's better than nothing at the mo. Her brother was fairly good from the start so can't see it taking long to get her sorted.

My Collie/grey Pup 4 Months Tomorrow
white van man replied to history's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I hope that's not you poaching on my permission!! Lord Graiglwyd wouldn't be happy!! She's growing fast and is looking smart. Looking forward to coming up home next week and getting out with the dogs. My pup should keep her busy. Your turn for the beers! -
She looks in good condition strongbow. Like the look of her. How's she bred mate?
