  1. our "buster" lost hair on the tail, rat tail looking as magwich says, we started giving the ferts a large container filled with water to bath in, which ill add they love, within a few weeks and its back to normal although we also thought it was cos he was pine'ing for the rest of the group when he got the rat tail he was on his own, cos the jills both had litters, the re growth came in conjuction with us putting him back in the court, plus the bathing, he changed from an old codger, to a young- un with a spring in his step
  2. nice one mate its good to see a picture of someone, without the big wobbly eyes and scratched out face
  3. no disrespect here, and lets not turn this into a ferret finder or not debate, but as a non experienced newbie looking at the collar or line option surely digging to a line is gonna destroy more of the warren, than digging to a signal surely once the line is further down a hole than you can reach, you have no way of knowing weather it goes, left, right,up,down and therefore would need to dig, following the line, thus destroying more of the warren, I think for me it would need to be either, dig to a signal, or dont dig at all
  4. well done hed's certainly worrying the 1st time aint it, well it dont get no easier as time goes by, trouble is, us ferreters that build elaborate courts, give them names, treat them as the family, then get far too attached to them to be able to stick them down a hole with a "well it only cost a tenner" attitude if it dont come out I myself had full intentions of keeping 2 forms of ferts, pet ones and workers, had it all worked out, that way if there were any losses it would'ent matter so much I therefore kept back a total of nine, some for their looks(colours) and some for their tempr
  5. well it looks like most of you are with me on that front then, I'll just have to learn the art of poaching rabbits from the grass verges and roundabouts, as they are alive with rabbits round here and im sure there would be some jobsworth telling me it aint allowed
  6. right i have a nearly new archos 40gb portable hard drive bought it to run with a helmet bullet cam so i could record while riding the motorbike at brands hatch, used it once and its been in the cupboard ever since. it can hold hundreds of files/music etc can hold films etc, do a google search and youll get the full features on it, or i can send to anyone interested it cost me around £350 and comes with all the bits and bobs, but not the bullet camera looking at swapping for a king ratcatcher preferbly with silencer
  7. there's been a few posts from fert keepers on how they feed feral's to their ferrets, i've always been of the frame of mind not too, because shooting them is part of my job in pest control on london underground, but once shot, these birds stink something rotten, (all head shots) so its not the guts or something, they just stink, and i suppose im being soft by not wanting to chuck them in the court, but as i havent got a plentiful supply of rabbit, im having to feed raw chicken so of course my mind has started thinking about the ferals, some weeks i may only get called upon to shoot 10 or l
  8. we had buster castrated after he farthered 2 litters, he's great at rabbiting and if we needed it, we still have 2 of his sons, one from each litter, and they are nearly as big as him, whats their birth date madcowz?
  9. went out couple weeks back for a half day, got 2, lost 5 from not netting up enough, not bad for 1st attempt though, went out again today(sunday) the area we ferret is the boundary line between 2 farms, have permission from one, 2 fences, one either side of a ditch thats heavy in undergrowth and big stinging neetles, first warren empty, 2nd warren empty, then my jill deciedes to do a runner into the nettle patch, we searched for a good have hour, thinking i had lost her and a mk1 collar, then realised i could use the locator above ground too, tracked her about 100yds up the ditch but no way

    rats

are you sure they are rats and not water voles, very simular in appearance but the voles are protected check shape of head, ears, tails etc, if they are too fast to get a shot, have you identified them correctly
  11. thats true ferretlove, Im always STIFF when I wake
  12. my firm supplied me with the TX200 .177 for our pest control work, my own gun being an S410 TDR, I thought it was gonna be a right pain in the ar$e, but after zero'ing it in the garden, and getting rid of the crap telescopic that was on it, and fitting one of my own, I LOVE IT.......
  13. yup, id say wait at least until next year, and then see if they get on ok once they are sexualy mature, if not then get one done in my court I have 1 castrated hob 3 entire hobs and 5 jills, but all get on fine, once the jills come into breeding condition next year i then have the choice of either breeding or phantom pregnancy, with an extra spare cage/run system if separation is needed
  14. was told at bisley that if you can keep both eyes open while using a telescopic, it makes it easier to hit target, dunno how true that is, cant do it myself
  15. just be careful not to feed kangaroo meat and sheep's meat at the same time.... you'll end up with wolly jumpers
  16. nope, im on the register too, as knocker says, why would they have the page offering, if they were against it, are you sure it was the NFR and not a simular sounding organization www.ferreting.biz/
  17. I use old negatives mate, as the negative (from ya old photo's) dont compress so you'll get an even spacer both sides or just at front or rear if you need to adjust ya point of impact just cut a few rectangles and give it a go, 1 or 2 will give you around 1mm
  18. I'd tell your mate to get down the doc's pretty quick, there's something weird with his head
  19. totally changing the subject here, but any of you lot read "danny the champion of the world" by roald dahl made around 76 by puffin books my other half read it as a kid, told me about it and we picked up a copy at a boot sale, its all about poaching and is a bloody good read, even though it was market'd as a kids story gives some really good idea's for catching pheasant using "raisins"
  20. had this happen to us on a job using live catch rabbit traps on a section of railway line in essex, had around 50 in one area but about 6 of them were visable through the fence to a public right of way, anyhow these kept getting sprung or trampled on etc, of course the culprits were entering the railway illegally, we put up signs saying/informing that the rabbits were tunneling under the embankment and making the tracks un-safe and that if it was'ent controlled a train could crash as a result, and it could be THEIR mums/dads/brothers/sisters etc on that train.....did it do the trick, did it fe
  21. well, would be a bit hard walking to the ice machine wherever with a deckchair between ya legs would'ent it, yet easy to sit where you are and phone for help
  22. quote;what do you do on the bottom of your courts I dont do anything, but the ferrets crap alot same as above, wood shavings, pop down any stables near to you, they normally sell large blocks of compressed shavings for horses, works out around £6/£7 alot cheaper than buying from pet shops dont use any from a wood yard as it may contain preserves etc
  23. if you dont wanna loose them, get a ferret locator
