  1. if its the first time you'vre bred ferrets, you'll end up keeping half of them, bet ya
  2. Id say, age, maybe get another jill (lend from friend etc) and put both jills down together, same hole, the inexperienced will normally follow the older fert down, or you may just have a fert thats not a great worker, Ive got a couple of those types, so they are kept back, or only taken out with older ferts failing that, I'll take her off ya
  3. they would either be tunneling in through the floor, or getting in a gap, what size wire did you use, as already stated unless you can keep the floor free of spilt seed, then your going to get rats, I'd suggest getting yourself a few mk4 fenn traps, look on the trapping section for places to buy, and best methods of setting them, build tunnels either from wood or brick/slate, to hide the traps inside, stops next doors moggy getting caught, and re build your avairy, would suggest you steer clear of poisons, as unless you know what your doing, you could get into all sorts of trouble
  4. good catch and nice pictures, the only downside to learning to use long nets, like me, you want to use them all the time, purse nets dont see the light of day
  5. be honest, that sticky moment was your fella
  6. unless you have records (family tree) of their breeding, plus their parents etc, you cannot predict what colours you'll get, as recessive genes might meet in your pairing, and throw out a colour/marking you'd not expect
  7. naw, its got to be the 2nd from last picture rew, its the first time I've seen you smiling
  8. maybe the squirrel was after some young bunnies too
  9. hi MT, only just saw your post, as Im a night tech, I dont have many squirrel traps as thats more the day tech's field, us doing rats/mice/pidgeon, however thats not to say I cant get hold of stuff out the warehouse if need be at present I only have a mk6 and a big squirrel spring trap, let me know in a pm, what sort of price you'd think per visit?, as Ive honestly got no Idea, and I'll look into getting a few live catch traps from work
  10. have always been led to belive, that the mk2 was just a prototype of the mk3, as its basically the same, but without the pin point knob on the back, but as you say, once you get it, test it out and let us all know
  11. you have a great grandad there, make sure you thank him
  12. on my anderson shelter court, I have a 600mm high section that I step over to enter, that save's the stinkers from running out its changed alot since that picture was taken, but you'll get the Idea
  13. looks like all the others have beat me too it, was going to say the same, MDF, and chipboard a big no no, get yourself a sheet of shuttering ply, the thicker the better, I just got 3 sheets (8x4) at £19 each 2"x2" (inches) to make your box framework, or if you go for 19mm ply, you could get away with 2"x1"
  14. bet that sucks the $hite up into a lovely mess
  15. I have 4 hobs (5 jills) all in a 6'x6' court with 6'x4' outside run, the hobs are a father, 2 sons and an outcross, and so far, so good, I do have extra large breeding hutches, should the need to split them up arise, but I think, they will have there places (dominance) within the court,
  16. a fully infected/mixy rabbit, aint going to run anywhere, you can normally just walk up and wack them, so if its showning signs, its either just getting, or immune so see how it goes, why bury or burn???? mixy is passed by flea's, not direct contact between rabbits, can see the point if its full blown mixy, but anything else, Ive stuck in freezer and used, no problem
  17. just do a search on old posts mate, there's countless topics on courts, as for bedding/floor etc, use the same as what you did with you hutch,
  18. stick a picture of him up, as what you class as dirty, we might not
  19. nice one mate, always nice to see someone make it, rather than just go out and buy
  20. depends who wants to eat them? as stated liver, kidneys can be eaten by us, I always keep liver/kidneys/heart and lungs within the rabbit, frozen, then when defrosted they get feed to the ferrets and dog along with sections of rabbit
  21. ok, for all those Interested people that have asked, just do a google search on battery hens welfare trust this will bring up a list of collection points across the country, and e mail addresses of nearest to you, most do a pick-up on the 1st or 8th of the month the hens are between 37 and 47 weeks old, and the charge 50p per bird
  22. its not a case of expecting anything, if she's "THE ONE" she will do everything and anything without question, same goes in return I must be one lucky git
  23. cheers for the replies, have kept chickens before, so no worries on the husbandry, will be inside a section of garden, meshed with 2"x2" pidgeon mesh (free from work) and run back to shed of a night, although they normally do it themselves and rats!! check what I do for a living
  24. no, not the 1st post if you look, the 14th, and I did leave the post up what should we do then?, not say anything, and let everyone text talk surely better to nip it in the bud early, rather than him get future post's deleated and warnings or even a ban
  25. so, I got myself a new shed 3mx2m and didnt want to just use the old 6x4 for firewood, so the missus suggested turning it into a chicken house, Ive been busy all day, putting up roosting/laying trays etc, and she's been searching the net, found the place the hugh fernley whittingsale (cant spell) used for the rescue of battery hens, so after a quick e mail, we are due to pick up 6 in a weeks time, probably looking like oven ready more than chickens, but I'll put some pics up, and see how we get on
