  1. thanks kev, he is ok today running round playing with Tod my pup. Jumping fences he seems fine, it must have just knocked the wind out of him when the horse kicked him in edge, he is back to his old self I am going to the valley show north wales in the morning , if you go down mate i will be there with both dogs, and you can have chat and see him. Ray Got another day stuck in the garden tomorrow mate, why do 2 day jobs turn into 2 month jobs or is it just me, I'm sure we'll catch up sometime have a good day mate. All The Best kev
  2. Glad to hear your dogs ok mate, never seen him in the flesh but he's one of the best looking dogs I've seen on here, All The Best Kev
  3. I definately prefer ferreting with a dog than without, if you got a dog that marks can be invaluable. Likes been said don't have to be a lurcher my jack russel marks well and is good at catching hole hoppers but lacks the speed needed to catch runners. I've got a beddy whippet whos coming on well and will catch the runners. If it's not for pest control and you don't mind missing a few theres nothing better than no nets and a running dog great to see them work like that. colliexgrey colliexwhip whip whipxbeddy it's your choice mate you get out what you put in
  4. I think if you've got a dog you got to make the time for it whether you work or not, I know lads who can't be assed to work, would rather sit at home or in the pub and scrounge I don't think they care about themselves let alone a dog, one of my good mates who often works with me is up at 5am to sort the dogs on site no later than 8am 5 days a week and runs the dogs most nights in the winter walks them every night after work. I think he's a good dog man, he's definately dedicated to his dogs and puts the time in. Baw after the few chats we've had your obviously gonna do the right things by you
  5. Hi mate I've got 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy ( litter sister to troter58's) she's 12 mnths now and is turning out to be a good little rabbiting dog, worked with ferrets, done a lot of bushing with my Jack Russel and is coming on real nice on the lamp ( I know it's summer but I've had her out a few times to keep her ticking over and build her confidence). She's quick off the mark turns on a six pence and has real desire which makes her ideal for rabbits. She's built like a whippet and stands around 19 tts I've only got her for rabbits and I'm sure if she carries on like she is she'll be spot on. She's
  6. Sounds like great times Hannah. Wow! that must have been some experiance Hannah.
  7. Thats a smart looking dog mate all the best with him
  8. Hi mate I've got a 2 yr old jrt and a 1 yr old 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy. They both live in the house and are pretty much inseperable, although as moll said my jrt can be a bit arsey at times lol. the jrt is good with the ferrets and bushing and she's a great little ratter she's keen as hell and wont stop all day long, th lurcher is still young so time will tell but she's shown good signs late last season, she's done a bit of ferreting caught a couple of runners and started to mark, most walks include a bit of mooching/bushing and she's had a few on the lamp. Can't wait for next season. Good luck i
  9. Cant find it any on here mate could you put a link up so i can get a look. Hi Billy If you put 'Whirrer' into the search at the top of the screen it should take you to a topic on this cross. Tyla off here as got a nice looking Whip X Jrt and so has crackpot maybe worth looking through the old posts ATB Kev
  10. Dont waist any cartridges, just stamp on it. Its much more humane Thats gotta be some kind of joke...........aint it
  11. 2 from last season really stick in my mind the first was my lads first trip out, the day started off ratting but after a nightmare start where we had to cut loads of brambles back we only bolted on rat. My lad was getting bored so I suggested getting the ferrets and having an hour on a small bury close by. My lad helped with netting up, putting on the collars and when he caught his first rabbit you could tell he was hooked. He insisted on carrying it back to the truck The second was special for me because it was the last time I went out with a very close friend before he passed away
  12. My little girl opened the door to mine last week. They were gone for 3 days the kids made posters and we put a note in the local shops. Got a load of calls and found em all at the local rspca centre. They said they get loads of ferrets in but they hardly ever get picked up. My littlr girl ( she's 3) was well chuffed to get them home she hardly puts them down and is on me the minute I walk in from work to let the ferrets out. Good luck with finding them mate let as many people as you can know there missing and you might get lucky.
  13. Nice looking pup there mate, good luck for the future you got some fun times ahead.
  14. Don't feed your ferrets raw rabbit, else they turn into blood thirsty wild killers that you never see again if you put em down a hole. ( if you feed em biscuits only they just nicely ask the rabbits to run for the exit). and if you feed your dogs raw chances are they'll kill your kids.
  15. My beddy whip will not enter cover like my jack russel will thats for sure, ( but i don't want her too), my brothers first cross will enter cover more readily but still not like my russel does. I enjoy watching my terrier work, she does yap when pushing rabbits out but I think this is a bonus you know where she is and it gives the other dog a chnce to position herself. She's quiet other than when she's pushing quarry. The added bonus with her is she's a good ratter and good with the ferrets. Downsides are she's really hard mouthed and she will take rabbits off of the other dogs.
  16. if a dog "crashes" a hedge to catch a rabbit it's shit, a good dog waits for the rabbit to come out of the hedge to be caught
  17. Martha 8weeks first rabbit around 6 mnths around 10months old most recent pic she's just turned a year.
  18. My brothers got a 1st x and she's gonna be bigger than my 3/4 whip 1/4 bed bitch, my bitch is quicker and a lot more whippet like she will enter cover but will more often than not wait outside the cover whilst my russel does the hard work. My brothers bitch will enter cover more readily she's around 9 mnths now so still to early to know what she can or can't do but she's looking promising and her parents were worked hard. She's around 20" now and quite heavily built compared to mine who's around 19". Mine has worked well with the ferrets, she's marked well and caught a few bolters. she's done
  19. Good luck with the new pup mate, brothers got a first x, nice bitch only around 8 mnths at the min so aint seen much, she's keen enough though when out with mine should make a decent dog.
  20. I use a russel mate with my lurcher bushing, she's good with the ferrets too, marks, catches hole hoppers she's a good ratter too all in all a good little dog.
  21. Rocky1 has been kind enough and said he would post me a few knifes for next season Nice one rocky, good touch that, Hopefully you be gutting a load more in the future mate and as ideation said you'll definitely get sick of it
  22. No idea what that means, but a great quote none the less
  23. thanks mate I think I will get him coming out more with me and see if he truly is into it he is a lazy git like may be for the best if he waits for a while Lazy gits and dogs aint normally a good mix mate
