Lets See Them Whippets, Coarsing, Racing, Working
brenner replied to brenner's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Il start.. 2 year old. Bred from worker to worker, mostly ferreting, lamping mooching dogs, 21" pics have been put up before. -
I think it would be interesting to see pics of whippets bred along specific lines for one of the tasks above . Not a topic for "my line is better than yours" or what lines or breeders you dont like. I just think it could be a good topic if done right to get some sort of visual comparison ( height, bone, feet )of dogs of the same breed but bred down different lines for their specific tasks.

Genuine question. Now that the thread has already been ruined. Do people in england really fear these anti scumbags as much as some let on. Do they have same powers as police in england ? Can they just knock on your door because of a post on the internet about owning a dog that has a touch of a banned breed in it and demand entrance whith out being told in no uncertain terms to f**k off ? . And does anyone actually know of a case were someone mentioned banned breed on this forum , athorities seen it, tracked i.p add. To house and succesfully gained entrance to home and ceased dogs ? All genu

Thanks lads. Thats encouraging feedback. I got her at 5 months and she hadnt seen the outside of a pen. Terrified of me and the world around her. Brought her out to socialise her with the pack the next day to a spot with plenty of cover and rabbits and despite her social hangups.. her natural drives just kicked in and she was following her nose through some rough stuff , in highend sight maybe i should have held her back as the cover i work is fairly testing but truth be told i really think the work helped her to come out of herself and forget her " troubles" . Ive been watching her closer sin

Never owned a wheaten lurcher but ive heard it said by more than one wheaten x owner/ breeder that sometimes they need a little more time to mature before they see hard graft than the bull x

hes a nice whippet an outcross would do no harm I done the same good few years back with an ss bitch came out faster and leaner and didn't affect work ability good luck you mind me asking. Was it any particular line you outcrossed to ? Or just a particular whippet that you liked

Would like to take a pup from this lad put to something simularily bred after a couple more seasons. If he keeps doing what hes doing for me now . Hes fairly tight on sooty sam so some might argue that an outcross to different lines would be a better option and im not completely ignoring the idea but i think its worth the risk (sticking with the line)to increase my chances of getting something back off him that works / acts like him.

Forgot to add, shes about ten months. And yeh i am deffo gonna take her out on her own or with my mates bushing terrier and see does it make a difference
-
yeh joe. The funny thing is she has had plenty of chases in cover and has had fur in her mouth a couple of times

like i say, im not well up on these dogs. That puts that theory to bed then. Thanks for reply

Have a young cocker bitch from working lines. Im used to using terriers for bushing so im not too well up on cockers except the research i done on here before getting her. Anyway.. ive noticed that if she picks up on scent leading into tight cover, shes in like flynn ! No bother. Or if i point in to a patch of bramble and tell her to have a look, she will most of the time. But...... If she chases a rabbit from out in the open and it hits the cover, she hits the brakes and sometimes wont follow even if i point her in. Anybody come across this type of behavior before? Could it be that she is wa

Right folks, i have a bit of time to give the info on bitch. I didnt rear her myself she belonged to my hunting buddy untill a few weeks ago, he has had to make the hard decision to clear out his kennels, i held on to this particular bitch the last few weeks but his situation has not changed so i said ide put her up for sale for him. I would keep this bitch myself but ive not the time or space for two runners that do the same job , its just not practical. So heres the good and bad. She was brought on as a daytime bushing bitch and is good at working cover with bushers. She is a sharp and fas

Its a bit weird the bow leg thing. Most the time when shes moving around she doesnt look bow legged. Only when she stands a certain way she looks bowed. Shes some set of paws on her crackin pup ray, she might not end up bow legged when shes finished growing ray. Maybe just the bones growing faster then the ligaments in her legs. Had the same thing happen with a beddyxwhippet that i over supplimented with calcium. I changed diet and was straight legged in a week or so. Either way makes no odds , she looks well and fit for function. A.t.b bren..

For what its worth mate, i managed to ruin a real promising looking young terrier by letting her hunt with just the runners i own. This little bitch was slowly going through cover on a trail from a very young age. I dont believe she was sickened as she never really toolk stick because she was a handy little size. I do believe she started watching and learning from the lurchers and then stopped bushing and started trying to hunt with them. Ive seen the same thing happen with friends of mine so best advice i could give is to keep getting it out with dogs that are good bushers if that is at all p

god forbid you ever land a big building contract that demands you dig your foundaitions were there are burrows in summer time. If you wanted to stay within your code of ethics i guess you would have to say by by to alot of money and risk ruining your name in the prosess for any further contracts. You never know, stranger things have happened.

is that the case mixed grill ? Has this dog just been used for smashing stuff and never really given proper opertunety to fine tune his field skills. If so ide go for it bud.

Very interesting topic and some good points being made on both sides of the fence , excuse the pun ... Personally if i really liked this dog , and it seems the dog has left a good impression on you despite the jumping problem, i would do my homework on the dog and ask all the right questions to the lad that reared him to find out if its a case of negative conditioning of the dogs mind or wheather the dog is lacking in drive. I know the arguement that a dog will either go over or through if it wants it bad enough regardless of training and i do agree to a point but we forget that they are no
