  1. i had a young 5 month wheaten terrier try take the hand off me for taking a bone off him, i gave him the shaking of a lifetime. he responded by trying harder to bite me, with no luck. i tried it again two mins later , same result. third time he learned not to do it again. i was telling a friend of mine (a long time wheaten inthusiast) and he said the best "the best way to not get bit by a working bred wheaten when he has a bone is to leave him the f**k alone with it ! it was good advise in this particular case as the dog got older and stronger and meaner i didnt try again. this dog was as lo
  2. Any other methods? Of course... My personal favourite is the homemade "cattle prod jump" technique basically you ge a plug with a wire spliced at the end attach said wire to a pole & plug it it (make sure the splayed wires don't touch or you'll blow the fuse and not the dog) Then fill the kennel floor with water not too deep, a bucket will do and voila you touch the wires to the water and watch the pup scream Atb Shroom i like your style mushroom. I was just wondering if youd be available for babysitting my three year old son on the weekends ? heh heh
  3. Like brazer says, make sure its rickets. Too many people see pups front legs bowing in or out and assume its rickets. Alot of the time its a case of the bones growing too quick for ligaments and causes the ligaments to literally bend the bones like the string of a bow pulling tight . A good indication of this is the knuckling over brazer mentioned( the toes and feet being pulled in tight under the knuckles) is the best way I can describe it. If you think you are treating rickets you are going to increase the calcium intake and vitiman d which in turn will worsen the problem if its a case of bo
  4. I usually just ride the storm the first nigt but if it continues, I put a sprinkler facing into pen thats connected to an outside tap. And every time the pup starts I just reach out the kitchen window and turn on the tap and give him a blast for a few seconds. Without the dog even seeing me. Lukilly I have an outside tap just under the window but I suppose a hose could be run in the window and connected to a tap inside just as easy. I think the beauty of this is that the pup doesnt get any attention from you by even seeing you, he, she just gets a negative response to making noise. This me
  5. thanks for the reply twiggy but i have my sights set on the bull type. a.t.b bren

  7. Thanks for all the replies lads. Goes to show there are some decent folk on this site that would take the time to type a few words of consonances for man and dog they probably never met.. atb bren...
  8. Thanks for all the replies lads. I wouldn't usually use this site as a public diary but I held this dog in very high regard so just felt the need to give him a bit of a write up
  9. Was only about 14 months old in pick. Will be hard to fill his kennel space with something near as good a prospect as he was. An honer to have owned him and will be sorely missed
  10. My favourite dog was killed today. He was still young at 20 months but was shaping up to be a handy dog for doing the particular task he was bred for. He had brains to burn' good speed to him, obedient, good wind , and was showing to have guts when it came to doing teeth. Also a very well made dog , picture won't do him enough justice but those who seen him in the flesh would not forget him . He was a stunner into the bargain... nature gives and sometimes takes away and that's only fair but unfortunately it wasn't nature that got him. I had to pick his smashed body of the motorway after he
  11. Yeh, i tried to part him with it on sunday, he wasnt havn any of it. Dont blame him
  12. that man is rough handed at the best of times. Hed shake her your hand and walk off with your arm lol. Dont think he realises how big he is. good line up tho. I thpught he chose well. And truth be told that mad fuckers always up for a wrestle lol
  13. a couple of lads i hunt with use this style of jacker and have to say they are hard to beat. move through the cover with ease and yap at the first sight of quarry. dont think any of them have had a problem with these type of terriers dissapearing to ground either. Im assuming the fact that they are so far removed from anything thats been bred for earth work it makes them less likely to drop and so makes them the ideal little bushers they are
  14. Toolk it handy enough with the lurcher last season. He will be just the right age to get a good guage on what he will or wont do this season, the whippet is just 5 half months so he wont see much this season except a look at a bit of ferreting

  16. Thats a few pics from yesterday, a good day for a swim, must be touching on 8 months
  17. Thanks for the input corkman. To be honest i do believe this man to be genuine but for what its worth to me, i wouldnt go to too much effort to confirm or prove it. hopefully he does the bit i ask of him, thats good enough for me
  18. This is a pic of dog at 6 months . I was recently told by a mate that these dogs have been mentioned in a new book so who knows, maybe porkies alright but the man did seem genuine, and actually he didnt mention these names until a couple of weeks went by after i bought the dog and i had 1 or 2 conversations with the man. Its not of great importance to me either way, just for conversations sake. The way i toolk it tho was that the dam was from the cork stuff and sire was from the south tip hunt . Thanks for all the replies either way lads
  19. Thanks big boots for the reply, i got the dog in Waterford, its from the cork stuff alright tho, broken coated typey little dog, il try get a recent pic up tomorrow
  20. Thats right bryan! You know anthing about the above dogs?
  21. Got a young pure jack Russell few weeks back and the man that bred him has line now for a while, he told me that the two names above featured back in the ped, just curious for conversation sake if anyone knows these dogs / pics ?/ seen them work ?/ were these dogs from england or ireland? Just to clarify the man wasnt throwing names about to big up the dog, i get the impression these dogs are long dead and berried, he just mentioned these two dogs in a conersation about where the line originated
  22. Just had a route in the shed, the name of seal i used was thomsons one coat concrete seal. And come to think of it the dogs feet suffered aswell, he used to go very red and raw looking between the toes. regardless of people thinking it sounds far fetched, it was proof for me that the lime was the problem. So as it turned out i was able to save my germaline for using on my own balls
