    Lol same here, I've loved whippets sice I can remember, before they were fashionable, when they started to get fashionable, and even when they get slagged off and slated on here, for being too soft, shit coat, shit feet, no stamina blah blah blah, by the majority of egotistical OIKS on here. I couldn't give a monkey's chuff if they don't look 'hard' enough, or whatever. In fact I'm glad they don't, to me it's part of their charm. I know, and have seen what these gentle looking dogs are capable of. I f***ing love whippets!

    Lovely pup that mate. Why wouldn't it do ok on most types of general work including coursing, when it was legal? I cought a few hares years ago with my kc reg whippets, dogs and bitches.     Best posts I've read on here for quite a while . Though I have to disagree in your first post with 'prior to salukis hare coursing was just that, running after hares'. Seen plenty of greyhounds and whippet/greyhounds catching hares very regularly, and pretty damned quickly too, even with 'law' before they were slipped. Not talking about the 200 yard slips which I've heard quoted many times in clips, but never actually seen, but probably the same as most coursing bred dogs actually get slipped at.     Id not breed from a Greyhound bitch to produce honest lurchers,false economy.Its better to breed from a lurcher and save all the wastage,fact.     Yep, that's a valid point, different charecteristics of each breed/type. Personally, and I know there are others that will obviously disagree, but I personally couldn't hack bedlington x lurchers. Every one I've seen have been far too headstrong and have too much nose to be really good lamp dogs, the ones I've seen. Deerhound x lurchers, while still having a fair nose, seem alot less headwork and a bit more biddable, and have been far better and more versatile lamp dogs

    You aint totally wrong mate lol. For me, the right lamping conditions don't have to be perfect, but using a bit of common sense and a bit of weather knowledge goes a long way to improving the amount you see, and the amount you'll catch. Going out when there's still a fair amount of moon either waxing or waning and not too much in the way of wind, is mostly a futile waste of time and effort, and as dodger and a couple of others have said, you'll just be wising stuff up, pretty smartish, therefore making em all the harder to catch.     Put a 1st x border collie/whippet to her, If you're that set about having a litter from her. She's already 25" tts so adding anything with more greyhound in will, in theory, possibly give you taller dogs than what you want.

    many of us had deer/grey cross collie/grey in the 80s, almost the standard lurcher of its time, and most made reasonable all rounders. not sure how many were genuine, as there would have needed to be a hell of a lot of coursing deerhounds at stud lol. google sorisdale deerhounds, now i know it is difficult to judge conformation from photos, but some of those dogs look more like camels or donkeys than deerhounds, and certainly none have what we would look for in a working hound. seem to be big heavy cloddy things too, and excessive weight added to poor feet would certainly explain why the c

    Was definitely colder for longer back then than what it is now. January 1978 and 1980, epecially 78, were good, or bad. depending on your viewpoint lol, years for snow. 1978 we had 3-4 foot of snow right along our streets, and 6-7 foot drifts all over the place.
