  1. Smart dogs mate. They from same litter, or same sire?
  2. Lol, no you've got a couple of good, valid points there
  3. Definitely, and a lot less aggro from many 'blinkered' lurcher enthusiasts. Don't get me wrong, I know that in many cases lurchers would be a more suitable type. But there are plenty of occasions where a whippet does the same job, but does it quicker, with more excitement and style, and in many cases with more enthusiasm. I love the little feckers lol
  4. With the popularity of whippets and more people working them these days, I think it would be worthwhile having a section just for whippets. I think there'd be a lot less negative comments then when people put up posts/pics etc about their dogs working.
  5. Cracking pics of that red. I know this'll probably sound a bit silly, but to me red squirrels look more squirrely than those pudgy faced greys lol. I think it's because reds have a sharper, leaner face/head. Anyway, nice pics fellas
  6. Not that I'm an expert on beddy x's NL, but he looks longer coupled than most beddy x's I've seen, and his coat looks cracking. Looks like he can shift too, I do like him
  7. I've had a fair few whippets over the years, only two not being kc reg. The smallest I've had, a bitch, was 20 1/2", not kc reg. Other bitches 21" and 21 1/2" tts, kc reg. The dogs I've had were all 21-22 1/2" tts, all kc reg. And they were about before mick brown was breeding his SS line of dogs. A mate of mine also had a kc reg dog of 23" tts around 20 years ago too, so they aint that rare. Tall, big, or tall and big whippets have been around for many many years. And AshR1 dog looks a typical cracking whippet to me
  8. Looks a cracking whippet, bottom pic's a belter
  9. Hi Jetro, I cant say too much as he hasn't been behind much quarry, i'm going to test him this year that's for sure. All I can do really is compare him to my 24tts saluki X, although he is fast, in an open long distance sprint with my saluki x she is faster BUT when getting up to speed, short bursts, jinking runs, weaving through woods, turning ect he sh*ts all over her to be honest lol, He got his first rab on the lamp at 7 months and I only took him out just for a couple of runs to see what he makes of a rabbit, to be honest I wasn't expecting him to be as keen as he was but he went like a s
  10. You've got me a tad confused here fella. 'A good dog killing a good 'winter' hare any other time of year'? Surely, if a dog kills a 'winter' hare, it's winter?! Lol
  11. 1st whippet champion on the money there shaark Yeah I love whippets, belting little dogs that will do alot more than many people realise. And I've said it before, but for the people that keep slating em, they've either seen shit bred whippets at work, or none at all
  12. Looks like an informal whippet coursing meet up from the early 70's
  13. Is that the one you put to a collie? yes thats the bitch Did you keep the red pup, that was a cracking little pup? no i only keep bitches that was a dog the bitch i kept i gave to a mate who loss his bitch in a accident help him out keep him in the game hes a good dog man Sound. That black and white bitch with a 1/4 saluki in looks a nice type, what else is in her?
  14. Is that the one you put to a collie? yes thats the bitch Did you keep the red pup, that was a cracking little pup?
  15. Not always. Plenty of really good dogs owned by complete NUMTIES! Though they would be better if they were owned by better owners
  16. Over the years I have sometimes foolishly ignored some of what you've just said, 'ignore their weaknesses' etc. And formed my opinions/thoughts about saluki bred dogs on the one saluki bred bitch that I owned a little over 30 years ago. Although only having a 1/4 saluki in her dam and an 1/8 in the sire, she displayed all the negative attributes that I'd read, and sometimes still do, about saluki crosses, and salukis. No matter what I tried she seriously tested my patience and ground me down til I could take no more, and we had to part company. But since those times a lot of different saluki
  17. Was looking last night £4-700 Yep, there's a few people that live less than 10 miles from me that have jumped on the whippet's popularity since the ban, and are chucking out pups pretty regularly for these absurd sort of prices, WRONG!
  18. Seen more than a few whippet litters advertised like that the last couple of years. 'To show homes preferably' etc. But they were asking between £600 - £800! . F***ing ridiculous, the world's gone mad. Let's be honest, most lurchers, sighthounds and whippets in particular make great family pets and are ideal country or walking companions. And I've also seen plenty of kc show bred dogs of many different breeds catching rabbits etc tons of times. It's as though they think that by selling to these 'non working' interested type people, the dogs won't want to work lol. Madness, f***ing madness
  19. 3/4 deerhound mate was pick of the litter can't get over how long his legs are but seems very sheepish , slowly but surely starting to become more trustingNice pup, he will grow into those legs. Had a couple like him, mine were slow to mature but well worth the wait. great dogshopefully his legs grow into his paws ....there huge haha just going to take it easy with him for a good while I think maybe just have him with me when I'm out with the ferretsI take all my pups out ferreting, just dont push himgoing to be a while before the ferrets are out there only 10 weeks so he'll have had plenty of
  20. Fairplay, there's been some belting dogs and pics of them working etc on this thread. Definitely the best thread, for me, on the site, closely followed bt the 'rabbiting dogs' thread. Thanks for people posting pics etc, really enjoying reading and rereading this thread
