  1. Hi lads, just a quick question about the HW95K. In a review in 'gunmart' by Pete Wadeson he says the overall length of the rifle is 42.5" (with sound moderator fitted). Other reviews I've read have all said overall length (inc sliencer) is about 45". What is the correct info? Thanks lads
  2. BlackDog1, I'm in an identical position to yourself. Used to shoot quite alot when I was younger, BSA meteor, super meteor, airsporter and a couple of my mate's other spring guns. Wanted to get back into it all for the last few years, so about 3 years ago I bought a brocock jubilee, fabulous gun, but I hardly used it, lovely and light and accurate as hell, but it just didn't seem right/normal to me. Shot my son's tuned ultra, mfr, mark 4 daystate and a couple more, and apart from the mfr in .20, they were all .177. And the last 3 weekends I've shot my mate's HW100 KT .177. Thought I'd love
  3. What did you end up buying rabid, brocock or an ultra, or something else?
  4. Looks ok, for a few bunnies when he's older. That's if he'll have enough 'drive' lol
  5. I know of the sire.. sadly I've met the owners too bloody northern gits! Lol yeah the sire is the same dog that sired your litter of pups that 'fourtrack' has two pups from pups isn't it? Edited to add, the sire was 'tod' wasn't it? He seems to throw some very nice types
  6. Yeah thought so. Cracking litter, and parents. Some very very decent dogs in that line if I remember correctly
  7. Brilliant. Breeze are those pair out of your bitch 'jewel' and your mates fawn dog? Think I remember them as pups when you were on 'colliecurs'?
  8. I agree there are far to many want to be hunters around who know fukc all ... Deerhound whippet first cross what an amazing idea .... I am going to get one there must be loads of working deerhounds and whippets around and breeding them would be easy ......... What would be wrong with putting a big pure whippet dog to a nice smallish deerhound bitch? Plenty of people do the same with whippets and greyhounds and get good results.
  9. Socks - if half the lurchers at a working dog show worked I'd be surprised, and if the ones that did work caught half of what their owners said they did, then there would be nothing left in the British countryside for genuine lads to catch, lol. I've been saying this for years. And the whippet/deerhound x for a while
  10. Lol same here, I've loved whippets sice I can remember, before they were fashionable, when they started to get fashionable, and even when they get slagged off and slated on here, for being too soft, shit coat, shit feet, no stamina blah blah blah, by the majority of egotistical OIKS on here. I couldn't give a monkey's chuff if they don't look 'hard' enough, or whatever. In fact I'm glad they don't, to me it's part of their charm. I know, and have seen what these gentle looking dogs are capable of. I f***ing love whippets!
  11. You said sire is deer/grey x beddy/whippet, and I know you said there's collie in the dam. How was she bred, how much collie etc?. 1st litter turned out well, did the second litter to the smooth bitch work out?
  12. Lovely pup that mate. Why wouldn't it do ok on most types of general work including coursing, when it was legal? I cought a few hares years ago with my kc reg whippets, dogs and bitches. And seen other whippets do the same. Wouldn't say they would've done as well on big open fields with hares given any sort of law, but they kept me more than happy. Again, lovely pup that
  13. Id say % of lurchers are lurcher to lurcher bred, the grew influence is often useful, yet well diluted in the best of lurchers.Collie,Saluki,Deerhound,Whippet,Bull have more honest influence on lurcher production than any Grey ever did.Who breeds a litter of lurchers for what a Grey offers as a worker?. Greyhounds and whippets, the two most slated dogs on this site. Collie, bull and saluki more honest influence, really? Honesty in a dog to me, is trying it's utmost when in pursuit, and you don't get any more driven than whippets or greyhounds when in pursuit of quarry. You normally write a
  14. I mentioned this exact cross a couple of years ago, and got shot down in flames as a dreamer etc, by hot meat and a few others on here. Ah well lol
  15. Best posts I've read on here for quite a while . Though I have to disagree in your first post with 'prior to salukis hare coursing was just that, running after hares'. Seen plenty of greyhounds and whippet/greyhounds catching hares very regularly, and pretty damned quickly too, even with 'law' before they were slipped. Not talking about the 200 yard slips which I've heard quoted many times in clips, but never actually seen, but probably the same as most coursing bred dogs actually get slipped at. And anyway, you've likened salukis to lurchers, so fair law coursing isn't really in the equat
  16. Sharp bitch that mate, how's she bred, much saluki?
  17. You any clearer as to deciding what type to use at stud to her fella?
  18. Id not breed from a Greyhound bitch to produce honest lurchers, false economy. Its better to breed from a lurcher and save all the wastage, fact. Greyhound is nearly 90% wastage and the most useful lurchers are best 25% Grew. You're confusing me here morton, and the issue. So if jase's bitch has done 3 seasons of decent work/lamping, seemingly with little in the way of many problems/injuries, that he's happy enough with to consider breeding a litter from, is she still 90% crap, or one of the remaining 10% of greyhounds or greyhound bred lurchers left that are any good? @ bigja
  19. Yep, that's a valid point, different charecteristics of each breed/type. Personally, and I know there are others that will obviously disagree, but I personally couldn't hack bedlington x lurchers. Every one I've seen have been far too headstrong and have too much nose to be really good lamp dogs, the ones I've seen. Deerhound x lurchers, while still having a fair nose, seem alot less headwork and a bit more biddable, and have been far better and more versatile lamp dogs
  20. You aint totally wrong mate lol. For me, the right lamping conditions don't have to be perfect, but using a bit of common sense and a bit of weather knowledge goes a long way to improving the amount you see, and the amount you'll catch. Going out when there's still a fair amount of moon either waxing or waning and not too much in the way of wind, is mostly a futile waste of time and effort, and as dodger and a couple of others have said, you'll just be wising stuff up, pretty smartish, therefore making em all the harder to catch. Wait a few nights til the weather is more favourable, doesn't h
  21. If you buy in a 1st x, and he turns out a decent worker with the qualities you want to add to your bitch, you won't then have the problems, headaches, and have to listen to the absolute BULLSHIT that owners of potential studs for your bitch WILL come out with and try to convince you of!
  22. Same as every f****r on here that can't wait for proper lamping conditions lol. It's all just a competition now, everyone got to start their dogs earlier than everyone else. catch more, go out more often etc etc. No wonder some people don 't see as much as they used to when they do go out, like you say, everyfucker else has wised them up lol
