So you'd use a whippet as you'd use a bigger, stronger type of lurcher just to see it fail somehow? Well done ?

You're just being obtuse now. But I'll entertain you a little longer, because I really can see that you are just choosing 'not to see it'. Whippet is added to many lurcher/longdog types, to increase take off speed, agility, fire, tenacity, good compact feet, to name just a few qualities. And by 'fire' and 'tenacity', I don't mean fighting dog qualities, rather being keen as f**k and game for a morning's work.

But there you have it, she wasn't a lurcher, so SHOULDN'T BE COMPARED TO A LURCHER.

I think I agree with a lot of that morton? Pure whippets were never intended for the same sort of work as lurchers or larger dogs. But I've seen and owned some belting purebreds that would surprise many naysayers.

Massive reverse gear?! You talking pure whippets or lurchers with whippet in the breeding? And if you're talking pure, they have never been meant as 'heavy duty' dogs. Two of the very best fox killing lurchers I've ever seen were collie/grey x whippet/grey x whippet/grey, brother and sister from same litter. As to pure whippets being undervalued and underated, I have to agree.

Apart from coat, name the 'far more things' that a whippet lacks, morton. Good whippet blood will add plenty to any lurcher. Just because you, and other members on here, dislike whippets, doesn't mean they aint any good, or don't posses many qualities that they can pass on to lurcher/longdog types they get crossed with.

Getting a thrashing off 'the old girl' as soon as we got in from school was normality. Seemed strangely odd if we didn't get one. Made us a bit suspicious for an hour or two. The good old days eh ?

Thanks for the reply mate. Still can't really get my head round how they can do that, when all I've read says different lol. Anyway, that falcon of yours certainly looks well worth breeding from, if it's possible. Wish I had the time to get into it all. Like I said, this is a cracking thread ?

There mate. 3/4 grey 1/4 collie, put to your bitch would give you 5/8 collie 3/8 greyhound, in theory. Sounds good for what you've said above.

That's a good possibility. I just tried to find a bit of info as to when, if etc, but lost my enthusiasm as soon as I started reading the first few words regarding the 'political' possibilties etc about it lol. Can't be bothered, life's too short lol ?.

Said it maybe two years ago now, but I can't see fury and joshua ever fighting. But, if they do, I don't think it'll be til the end of next year at the earliest.

@Dan Newcombe Something like poxon's bitch, but with a tad more whippet in, would be ideal. Especially as you want it more for rabbits. Right size, tidy jacket, still pretty easily trained, and should be very quick and nimble, ideal. But as been mentioned, finding such a litter these days isn't as easy as it used to be.
