Making a start on the 20/21 rabbiting season
poxon replied to Terry Ermann's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Tell me about it terry we got pockets it’s 2s or 3s it’s a long old slog to get the dog’s enough runs round here but I’m sure the numbers will recover at some point my young bitch keeps finding dead rabbits in cover I recon that vhd virus is active round here again the first pic I thought had been shot but sat in the hedge line it was a magpie that had the eye out -
Making a start on the 20/21 rabbiting season

Good luck mate for the season ?? miss a good mornings ferreting. round here don’t warrant owning ferrets no more it’s a lot of time waisted for not hardly any If any return I shifted my stinkers on a couple of seasons ago pretty gutted because I’d had the strain for years just stick to a bit of lamping now days but not as dedicated to that as I once was rabbit numbers are real thin here I can see the type of dog I keep changing to more terrier blooded with size due to lack of rabbits -
Thermal makes sense if your running dogs on your own somewhere your not meant to be It could be a handy bit of kit to have seeing what gears actually there before flicking a lamp on burning fields down with rays of light also see if people are sniffing about But if you lamp with other people I couldn’t think of nothing more boring than being in the dark most of the night an only switching a lamp on when a runs been picked out for you an dog to run I think half the fun is the handler looking down the beam for a run for the dog

Thought you was gunner say a new battery for me Nokia 3210?
-
I know mate I don’t have no trouble spotting gear on dim beam nor does this young bitch I got being brought on even at distance the ?reflection kicks back I still recon the only use for high beam is for the human benefit of seeing the run
-
LED lamps not for me the lights that white I can’t see the centre of the beam it’s as if it’s burnt out. variable 170 ticks all boxes for me big land or small

I’ve had a number of shit low payed jobs over the years I Went to college I got qualified as a mechanic re done maths,English,iT an done a welding course I thought that would better my self I done 3yrs after being qualified I’d always been in to cars an engineering an restoration of motor vehicles but your taken the piss out of in these trades pays not as great as made out if your qualified in these trades I lost my love for cars I literally fell out with my boss in my garage one morning over being low payed as we had a morning meeting I’d work like f**k I’m not work shy by the afternoon I th

I think work ethic is drummed in by parents a child that sees parents as lazy c**ts an not working is likely to be a lazy c**t there self a child that sees parents getting up every day to go to work to make sure bills are payed an food on the table is likely to be a worker parents don’t always like there job but a child that sees parents as hard workers will get up an graft when the come of age

Go lovely in a bacon an egg sandwich ?

Definitely mate an the come down from the disc biscuits ????

Beddys have become a laughing stock but it’s hardly surprising tbh
-
Good luck wi that mate plenty of work shy young uns that can’t hack a Monday after the weekend sesh a lot of young uns don’t like the weather I’ve noticed bit of rain an there wanting to go home ffs
-
There probably loose a month or so anyway if they have a bitch that breaks down unless they run in season bitches a lot of beddy whippets have 2 seasons a year. I think missing one working season to get a replacement to bring on out of a good bitch to good dog isn’t to much of a problem tbh
-
Suppose it depends on what time of year a bitch has a seasons some bitches are yearly some every 6months an dependant on motives for breeding in the first place

What dogs everyone running this coming season
poxon replied to Floyd17586's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Started bringing this young bitch on she’s had a few trips out she’s doing well so far I can see real potential there it’s no Purdue's progress bull shit magic from the off she has a tendency to start to try an hunt up if she has a miss but she will get there once she fully figures out the lamp crack- 273 replies

Had someone down my gaff for a run on the beam there’s no numbers down here just pockets here an there an the grounds fast moving they did comment on that rabbits seem pretty nippy down this end of the woods to what there used to else were but I’ve alway been in the opinion all rabbits run the same speed but who knows
-
Not just the rearing that’s not the problem I think sharks on about half the dickheads in this game that are pretenders then finding out down the road people who have had pups of you are horrible little c**ts that have dealt pups a shitty deck of cards an done wrong by them it’s a hassle to have on your mind even when people have vouched for people being decent
-
Mate I’m in the same opinion I done 2 litters it would of only been one litter if my young un didn’t die but dealing with fools in this game as put me off breeding my own replacements it’s to much hassle dealing with people id rather just pay over what I’m willing to pay for the right gear or if I do breed go old school breed for what I need an the rest is history via a vet

Beddy instead of collie then that put to a racey bull greyhound or racey Wheaton x perfect cross??
-
I like the sound of deerhound greyhound x collie greyhounds over the more modern xs Tbh but have a really sneaky liking for the sound of 3quarter greyhound bull x f1 Bedlington greyhound to a deerhound/greyhound I recon I’d be in prison in no time owning a dog like that ? as I’d probably avoid legal quarry an concentrate just on bigger stuff think that’s why I stick to the medium collie beddy greyhound mixes because there chancers there have a crack but not specialist at nothing an can be used as a general hunting dog. My cousin an his mate run collie greyhound deerhound greyhounds years ago t

They might disappear because there actually out working the dogs rather than keep visiting fb or the hunting life trying to waist time with statuses like the rest of us on here but who knows what do you recon stiffy lad? I know my self coming on here becomes less a priority once the season gets under way an there’s a dog there to be run but I also find it strange as I had a bitch out of action a bit last season an see some people that always say about others doing feck all with there dogs on here tend to be on here regular posting throughout the hunting season that no one does feck all with th

I normally like a dog out youngish ferreting pinning in nets for confidence I don’t let Young dogs do any hard running I wouldn’t lamp a young dog till about 12 months or older properly but would let a slightly younger dog have a little odd run on the lamp but that’s depending on the dog I’ve alway found dogs that have introduced to hunting at a younger age turn out better dogs for hunting but only if success catching is made there beaming with confidence an sharp as catch dogs by the time it comes to running them properly. I also rate using a mentor dog if one’s available for bringing young d
