    A Lurchers a lurcher to me Long as it’s willing to do my bidding an catch me gear with a bit of style about it an I’m happy with what I’ve got I couldn’t really careless if it’s line bred, gen bred or a complete scatter bred if I like the parents an what they can do I’ll take a punt on a pup.I’ve had line bred as well as scatter bred they’ve all worked ok an we’re honest dogs I’ve had a few dogs along the way that were dirt/shit whatever you want to call them.i do like all the line bred stuff I find all the pedigree side of things interesting but that’s about it tbh it means nothing to me to b

    I think this is true mate. some of the best dogs I’ve seen as well in my time with running dogs none have been line bred stuff it’s always been one cross bred to another cross you only have to look on here some of the stuff people are running it’s all lurcher to lurcher multi crosses an they seem to have the job in hand there used for I do see the point in line breeding say if your a out an out fox man,deer man or a courser but to be honest your lucks still the same as a gamble bred of multi crosses of dogs that can do the job required I think it’s all personal preference

    you have completely missed the point I was getting at I know what a line is it’s a family of close breds with no contamination of other blood of other crosses only close bred family tree with outcross lines being Bred separated from the main line to be put back in at a later date as the out cross ??Like I’ve said most people with a line don’t want people to contribute unless it’s on there say so most people with a active line are kennel blind as f**k there only breed out there own owned dogs regularly They rarely want or will except other people’s involvement or opinions of the better dog to b

    Thing with most the people with a line of Lurchers they don’t want people that will contribute to it they seem purest it’s like the colliex fans only want collie the beddy x fans only want beddy bull x want bull etc they fail to see a mix up of different base bloods works wonders in ironing out negatives in the types they certainly wouldn’t want a man combining a line to produce scatter breds that produces better than there line they got going or else it contradicts there line of being any good in the first place if a man can wack two random dogs together an produces better than a line

    I’d rather worker to worker scatter breds my self rather than line bred stuff the thing with lines is people breed out of dogs in a line for the blood young rather than working abilities with age an experience on its side you only have to look at some of these people that say about lines they got gt gt gran sir or dam an it’ll only be 4 or 5yrs old

    There’s litter wastage in every lurcher breeding be it first x breeding or bitza breeding there will always be litter wastage they don’t all shine in every litter an don’t all make good serviceable working dogs it’s only on if a mating gells an you could get a couple that shine some average an some dirt

    I’ve heard Hancocks is still breeding lurchers but not under commercial status anymore for volume probably for the best least they can actually take note of what there breeding an what’s actually the producers of half decent dogs are but I’m guessing it’s to do more with the guidelines with being a commercial breeder.     Mine over summer are fed once a day sometimes twice come hunting season obviously the food is upped as we’re more active with getting them fit to the run up to the season they get fed in the morning an by 9.30Pm if we’re not out in the evening but if we are out it’s normally a hour or so after the last run of the night Depending if it’s been a long night or not I’ve found over the years Giving in two sittings works better for me rather than one gret bowl of grub
