Tell me about it I’m the same mate I like stuff done nice but once you start it’s hard to put something back on a bike that’s not to the standard you’d be satisfied with that’s were the over spending starts with me. That little pw your doing is going to be smart mate your grandkids are lucky 100 agree safety is important get some pictures up once completed mate itd be nice to see. Ill be looking out for another bike to build after Xmas is out the way I fancy building a keeper for my self something completely metal I like the 1999-2002 kx250
-
your be surprised mate once you start doing stuff properly using quality parts or using specialist to do stuff for you I could burn 2k easily on building a mx bike that little yz I’ve just done I’ve nearly 2k in restoration on that and that was supposed to be a budget build
-
Always on eBay sniffing about what I was getting at is you could buy a bike say 2700£ spend about 2k on it and it’s only worth 3k false economy mate
-
Those little pws seem to hold there money quite well. Least your doing a bit a couple of hours is better than not doing nowt mate. I’m gunna be on the lookout after Xmas is out the way for another mx bike just seems every one for sale they want strong money for them there’s no money in them to restore them a lot of the time you can’t break even your restoring them at a loss
-
Rc kx250 was mental I watched a video on the stuff they had to do to his bike because he was a small guy so he could race it the amount of mods to make it usable for him was crazy the 1999 split fire kx was my favourite mx bike of all time

Them early aluminium frame Hondas handled like shits I’ve heard a lot of people say and the engines were under powered think the later aluminium frame Hondas was meant to be better and engine combo 2001 on to 2006 I do favour steel frames better but do like the later yz frames my problem would be restoring a alloy frame that size I fancy restoring another bike or 2 next year I want to do my full license I should of done it years ago I’ve got a few bikes in mind I’d like to do if I can get my full license sorted
-
Pair of bikes I’ve restored this year 2000 yz125 2003 kx 125 resto mod
-
That’s what im thinking early spring time if I sell it I’ll only fold anything it goes for in to buying another bike to restore I want to do 2 bikes a year
-
It’s a 2000 model mate it’d be nice to see that for it I might bang it on eBay or get her indoors to put it on fb marketplace at some point
-
Cheers mate she turned out really nice I’m a bit unsure what to do with her to be honest because I’d loose money selling her I wouldn’t get back the price I paid plus all the parts it’s took restoring her let alone the time it’s took I bet I’d struggle to see 2.5k for her there is probably that in new parts on her
-
only photo I can get to load up
-
Those little Ktm 50 sx,s are cool looking little bikes I fancy restoring a early type one for my lads but for a bike that needs work people still ask to strong money for them it’s the same across the board for mx bikes (still can’t add pictures mate I’ve got this little yz 125 back together it’s turned out nice super fresh
-
Having problems adding pictures any ideas lads
-
Ya man got lucky when the bottom end locked up usually these 4t take a shit and push the valves in to the piston and mangle the head…..very lucky
-
Gotta be oil starvation mate I know a lot of people that have these 4t mx bikes service them but forget to change the oil filter it’s self could be clogged stopping or slowing oil circulation
-
How many hours had this engine done what’s the cause of the bottom end locking up?
-
Can’t beat a set of vapour blasted cases when assembling an engine just makes the process so much nicer and more enjoyable. Looks good mc I made my own vapour blaster as I didn’t fancy paying about 7k for one I used a eBay special 220l sandblast cabinet and a submersible pump in a plasterers bucket probably cost me about £500 all in to build it and can get the same results as a professional built one. Gunner be starting to put my yz project back together this weekend as I’m due to collect the frame back from the powder coaters on Friday night the Yamaha blue frame colour is a pig to match in
-
Fair play wilf love little projects like this gives a good sense of achievement once finished looking forward to seeing the progress. If I was ever a single man again id not have a conventional home it’s a con job with rents or mortgage prices I’d probably live on the roads or buy a boat. I see a lot of young couples were there relationships have gone south it all stems back to lack of money due to having all there money tied up in paying mortgages or over priced rents that they can’t do anything bar sit in there 4 walls
-
I had a AR 50 same thing pull the clutch stand up cool design but by far the slowest bike I’ve ever had restricted to 35mph could of run faster lol nice looking bike I swapped it for a dt 50 far better bike
-
worth a bit of cash now mate
-
I’d love a bigger engine bike but I’d think a sport bike id kill my self plus there not really my cuppa t I like the idea of if I get bored I could just go off road I’ve gotta do my bike test at some point I like the 2 stroke stuff I like the ktm 300 and the beta 300 rr but like restoring bikes if I did have a sport type bike I’d definitely want a 80s bike like a rd350 lc my old man had one when I was a kid my mum made him sell it he still says worst thing he ever did I do fancy restoring one but there pretty strong money
