  6. A good dog is the key Although i avoid those were a maize is right up to the hedge. Takes a bit more time but usuually find the dog becomes more attuned to what is needed if working alone

  8. Did that pm land Only things are playing up my end
  9. Know the area very well Theres a set of holes just under that oak tree and that bridge is a real give away. Lot of ferreters/lampers operating locally Always fit for a few rabbits when you really knuckle down though Good luck
  10. Had a collar given to me Not sure what kind it is and what batteries it takes Two batteries are needed to make it function. They must sit on top of oneanother by the length of the housing At a guess i would go for a mk1 15ft micro Can anyone confirm this and what batteries do i need THANKS
  11. not big on ferreting where there is a large rat problem. Bolted rabbit and rat out of the same burrows. In your case sounds like the rats have multiplied and taken over. Is there knowhere else on the shoot where you could have a crack at the bunnys. Preferably away from feeding areas
  12. Theres more than one way of killing a rat. Its probebly on his to do list.
  13. The rats need clearing You kill many
  14. Somthing with two wheels that you pull rather than push is ideal
  15. I use a trolly. Like the ones that are used for shopping. Carrys all my kit including the ferret box with the help of a bunjee tie. The only draw back is boggy ground as the wheels are not the inflated kind. Saves lugging kit and rabbits around. It was cheap as well - came out of a skip
  16. got to give them credit where its due. How does a well brocken and socialised ferret know not to bite a hand smothered in rabbit blood. Yet any other meat is dealt with in the usual manor. They must beable to differenciate between ferreter him being part of the hunting team and that which is prey. My ferrets seem to know when im going ferreting they get very excited when im rummaging abut for my gear. Im pretty sure they are aware that i take them hunting. We keep them close to the house .you can watch there antics through the window when washing up or preparing a meal.
  17. Re kindles a few memories. You must be as keen as i used to be
  18. Lurcher x lurcher bit of collie whippet and grey hound in the in the melting pot I will pm you when a litter is available. From working stock. When we having that walk around with the ferrets
  19. Cut what you can off thebone fry it with home cured bacon. Chuck some plum jam in You will be back for seconds
  20. Wouldnt surprise me if the dog became a good pot filler. Some dogs dont look the part. Yet i seen enough to know that they can keep the whole street fed. Dogs to big dogs to small etc. Got one here- on the heavy side 25 tts. Not my first choice for what i had in mind - ferreting mooching and yet now i wouldnt like to leave home without him. Sometimes its whats going on under that skull that matters
  21. Nice honest read Sounds like you were enjoying yoursels
