Hi all me and a friend are looking for a new guide. we use a small local guide who is brilliant but is getting in his latter years and we don't want to burn all ties with the geese when he packs up. We normally go twice a season for a few days each trip any one know of any guides rather not go to these Commercial guide what are popping up many thanks Kev

If your asking them questions I would think about designing something else pal ? -
I personally wouldn't make a dog sit at feeding time as he will associate sitting with food and that's never a good thing
-
I start off with the dog on the lead at heal walk 10 ft stop blow the whistle and a gentle tug on the lead if he doesn't sit then push his arse to the floor keep doing this but don't do it to much each day, get it perfect before taking off the lead have him sit every time you stop and blow the whistle they catch on quick then let him off in a small area blow the whistle if he doesn't stop go out to him pick him up and place him in the area you blew the whistle keep don't over do it just twice a day will be enough Hope that helped you out Atb

Have you tried sending her back down the side of a hedge so she can't quarter if you haven't got a wall or hedge to run down shoot a rabbit tie a rope to the leg rub it on a spot and remember were you rubbed it then drag it 30yard out then sit the dog on the spot you rubbed the rabbit sit her and you walk away from her and then cast her off she should use her nose and take the line of the scent keep repeating this in different places then swap the rabbit of a bummy with no scent and she would remember to go back atb good luck farmer

I have a few of each and there's two were pups of the same age you have to spend time with the dogs and find there character the springer you only have to raise your voice and she knows she has done wrong the cocker I was always going out to him and scolding him only for the next time for him to do it again I would deffenatly say cockers are harder to train they are a bit head strong but once you pass the basics they are like a sponge and learn so quick for hunting ability there second to none Atb farmer

He won't get prosecuted because he is telling them what they want to hear. 20+ years in the game he will be spilling all the beans. that Brian May will have something to say about it he is backing league against cruel sports financially.

I did it last year never got a thing but it keeps some lads in the game so I can't moan gotta look at the big picture it's helping the sport

farmerkev09 replied to Qbgrey's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
there all specked and pens are moved every second day to keep fresh pasture and there roughly in there for about 4 weeks then wing clipped and put in to the release pens then there moved again on to fresh ground and the poults are put in with a 8ftx8ft brooder shed on side works well for me. -

40ftx40ft pens 150 in each at a 7/1 ratio hens to cocks fed on turkey laying pellets and mash with ever second feeder filled with wheat and Pigeon condition seams to be doing the trick. -

Hi lads the trapping has been going really well had 2 many magpies than can remember well over 30+ now. Well all that doesn't beat what I found this morning. some times rifles, shotguns and terriers just can't get them awkward charlies and same could be said about using traps but this vixen payed the price.
