Propaganda. Misinformed eejits. Dunno what's worse, the papers that print it or the people who believe it. What's wrong with that - please don't say your naive enough to think that most poachers these days are the old school romanticized one man and his dog type???
-
To be fair there ARE plenty of folk in the dog world, and on here who DO fit that description pretty well. Us decent dog folk are caught between the antis and the idiots who make it worse for us.

Give the pup less options - do some retrieves in an enclosed space like a garden with your back to a wall/hedge. Try using a whistle. ALso could try a long training lead and if the pup starts to walk away with dummy etc then you can pull the dog gently toward you whilst repeating the retrieve command. Then lots of praise. Don't do too many it will get bored. Also it's only a pup so it thinks its playing a game - it just hasn't worked out the rules yet. It needs to understand due to command and not situation eventually. That way you could send it to retrieve anything and it will.

Pure breeds - massively under rated in my opinion. Always going to draw the 'every whippet is weak', 'every greyhound' is fragile idiots out of the woodwork, but thats always from folk who have never worked them. Granted there are a lot that aint up to the grade out there, but look at for example fence hoppers (now sadly past away) grey - hardly fragile! And I have a thing for whippets, and anyone who works them properly on here will know what they can do, especially the Laguna lines. TBH i think that the more people that work these pure breeds the better - its what might save them from going

How long before you would do a set again!!
Ideation replied to THE GRIFF's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Depends on rabbit density and the proximity of neighboring warrens. There is a gully on one of my permissions, which i ferret weekly and always have rabbits out of it. The only reason i do it every week is it is next door to my house mind. When i was a kid there were a HUGE number of rabbits around here and we would ferret the same sets about every two weeks and didn't seem to make too much of a difference to what we got out of them - i guess some areas are desirable for a rabbit to live in and so some sets will fill up really quickly as soon as word gets out they are empty. I have ferrete -
Im sorry, but they will if you dont molly coddle them, its just that they aint used to it, tip; removed all your dried food, stick a raw chicken leg in with them, they will eat when hungary if we shut you in a room, with nothing but raw meat, you would at some time, rather than die of hunger, eat the meat, a ferret is no different rant over 2 reasons why I wouldn't do that 1, ferrets have a very short digestive track and I would see starving them for a long period of time wrong, to get my ferrets to eat meat they would proberly have to go a very very long time without food.

Did it come from the same guy in Leeds? Y.I.S Leeview Can you get me a couple of Micro chutney ferrets for this season LV......................... I hear the angora chutneys are the way to go, better coat. . . .
-
Aye they do and do not exist. Small ferrets can be selectively bred but it means different things to different people. How small is small - i have a jill thats half the size of one of my other jills but i wouldn't think of her as 'pencil' or 'micro' as i wouldn't call the other one my 'badger ferret' or 'giant ferret'. Once they start getting names they become marketable as a must have ferreting accessory. jmo anyways . . . .

These might cool you down...............

For a couple of guys that don't like the mans dogs you don't half bang on about them. Your pretty opinionated when it comes to Hancock...how many dogs you had of him?..And you don't come across as cockish just arrogant...who are you to tell anyone where and how to spend their money?...concentrate on your own dogs and gi yourself peace. Fair enough buddy, it's not about what the dogs can or can't do or how good some of them end up. Never once did i say they were bad dogs. I've never bought a dog off him but i have been to his kennels to look and what i saw really bothered me. It's not wh

Well according to the big men on this site you do!! f**k that. It's what a whistle is for isn't it?
-
All this stuff about handling a 100lb dog. . . . . surely if your dog is well trained etc you don't need to use your strength to man handle it?

Do you think 3/4 grey x 1/4 collie is better for long ears than a half cross? I'd say so.
-
Aye spot on. I like them coming off when they have killed and getting on with the job in hand but they shouldn't leave a live one. Very well summed up matey!

I live on my own in the middle of no where, don't have a t.v or a local pub. The summer is excruciatingly boring. bull Oh and you know anything whatsoever about me do you? . . . . and as for a 'true ferreter knowing that ferrets will do anything in the wild' - they don't exist in the wild - i'd have thought a 'true ferreter' would know that? As for stopping looking in books and getting 'proper advice' if i remember correctly all i did was advise against breeding silver to silver due to the genetic issues which often arise - and i've SEEN this with deformed and deaf kits. Depends how big your fields are as well. If your working a couple acre field a motor is overkill but if you got some MASSIVE pieces of land, a motor is just more efficient. -

Funnily enough mate - my accumulative knowledge of ferrets doesn't come from the 7 months being on here - not everyone joins a hunting site, then thinks it looks cool and then gets ferrets, dogs etc. Some of us had them for a long time before we joined. And no i don't know everything but do try to give advice along side the pointless abuse. You got a problem with that?
