  1. It shows people want the ban to be lifted, admitedly these people are going about it the wrong way, but hopefully it will urge the authorities to lift the ban so it can be done more humanely. It's a ban on hunting with dogs not killing foxs. They wouldn't use dogs in the city would they. They already have more humane means - trap, gun etc - these guys are just violent little shits that like killing something.
  2. The best line is - i do x on a, b, c and d's farm. I was wondering if you needed x taken care of. But only if it's true. If not just be polite and straight up - and farmers don't like people being too friendly or their 'mate' - just a tip.
  3. lol the voice of reason shows up again!!! my bitch is 100% stock broken and ive got the video to prove it i cant be arsed to put it up now as im up at 6 but watch this space ill post it tomorrow Aye mate - thats not what i'm saying. What i meant was you can take a dog that IS 100% stock broken and then in two years (and really a lot less time) f**k it right up and turn it into a stock killer. That is what sounds like has gone on here - rather than a basic lack of training. A dog is never 100% anything forever. There are dogs that are 100% people broken that have bitten/killed people
  4. f*****g hell . . . . . someone been taking roids or something? Why all the aggression? No matter how much you train a dog and how well trained it is at one time - two years is a long time and a lot of things can get broken down over that time. a 12 month old dog is still very young. Stewie - you give me a dog that you have made 100% stock broken at 12 months old and i could have it killing sheep within a short space of time if desired. It's a dog.
  5. Mate . . . . didn't mean to offend, i don't really agree with snaring a hare, but understand that its a bit ludicrous and is based upon personal feelings etc. The reason i asked was just that i was wondering if it was because of the dog men. As it was this time of year, and the photos were on grass, i assumed that was the reason . . . . .
  6. "Sometimes you can get away with it", your words mate so I'll ask you the same as I asked others,- have you or do you know of anyone who has carried out any experiments regarding breeding, leaving in season and using a blank hob or the jill jab? I would be interested to hear of the results? If you don't know of any how can you write the above? Not having a go just wondering how you came to your conclusions. From what i have seen breeding is the best option with regards to health. . .. . but obviously thats a thing you should be doing rarely, so the second best option is a vac ho
  7. Helen Hansel has a good book called 'The Working Whippet'.
  8. Alas the seasons almost over . . .

Aye man it's getting cold and it rains and also the animals have all got big and fast and it's just no fun anymore. . . .

  9. If your pup is physically mature enough to not be damaging its muscles, ligimants, joints and bones, by running flat out, can retrieve a full grown live rabbit and has spot on recall enough to be lamping with. . . . .at 3.5-4 months . . . . . . . its a freak of nature. Why would you want to lamp a puppy. . . . ? I understand showing it things and letting it watch and learn etc, but any flat out work . . . . . . . .
  10. Worse bite i had was similar to you guys, had a very excited jill who decided she was going to lock onto my hand - felt the teeth grind against the bone. A Kit can't bite properly, i picked up three recently and of course they nip, first day had some bleeding knuckles, by day three very little nipping and by the end of the week i could really wrestle with them with my fingers and stick a finger in their mouths and no bites. I really don't get how people have kits still at 10, 12, 16 weeks that they can't handle. . . . . if you do it right it only takes a couple of days. Also they are baby ferr
  11. Yer i know, i use that and also egg, was just wondering about the ferretone - more interested in the cancer scare bit???
  12. Its because they eat, and where you have land where a lot of hares are eating, you have to thin them out. You have to have a hell of a lot of hares for them to be damaging crops etc as their feeding pattern is different to rabbits. Whereas rabbits will munch forward in a line clearing land, hares pick at odd bits here and there. I'd be really surprised if those couple were doing that much damage, it was probably the rabbits. The only reason people seem to really have for getting rid of the hares out of season, is so that they don't get folk with dogs coming on their land in the winte
  13. If your running a dog at 3.5 months old at quarry then it's unlikely to make a healthy old age. It's still a small puppy, with developing muscles and bones, the damage you can do is huge.
  14. Out of interest why do they need thinning out . . . . i wasn't aware that hares caused much damage???
  15. This aint a war go and ask what a MINSHAW is Well, go on then, what is it??? to me youv got pure breds and the humble LURCHER. not long dogs not whirrers not tumblers nothing inbetween. the dog of choice of the poacher the gamekeeper, gypsie,Hare courser, farmer, ferreter, deer rustler, terreir mans dog, busher, beater, for the first time youngster, weekday worker or reteired moocher, and sadlie the show and racing fanatic LONG LIVE THE LURCHER! ! versatile and hard working but still always a LURCHER. I'd keep the long dog - a cross bred running dog with only sight h

  17. What stopped them exporting it? Have you heard anything about the cancer issue, if anyone i'd have imagined you would know. I did try some kind of malt paste stuff i got from pets at home or something, seemed ok.
  18. I used to buy ferretone of ebay i think . . . . now i can't find it on there. Any ideas where to get it from? Also i was doing a bit of research and someone suggested that ferretone has been linked with cancer in ferrets . . . . any thoughts?
  19. Actually the mutation gene was discovered by a Swedish bloke and the Angora strain was developed my Norwegian fur farmers. If you want to find something truly f****d up go and research 'Marshall Farm Ferrets' they are the largest commercial breeder of ferrets for the USA, Japan. It's horrific.
  20. I've been spending the last couple of weeks walking a lot of my permissions. . . . hole counting, looking at new activity, scrapes in the field. . . . . just imagining. Its a bit cooler tonight and getting dark by 9.30 now. . . . . . Funny thing is i think the stinkers know it as well . . . . they've been going mad in the cages and fighting to get out. . . .. . . . My favorite thing is that first thumping. . . . the first time you stink your stinky one down the hole in the new season and its all quiet for a few moments and then you hear the dum dum dum dum. . . . . . . dum dum dum dum . . . .

  22. Right . . . this is the thing. . . . i'm not knocking anyones dogs, Jeff Burell or x38's or anyones. . . . but whats with the obsessive desire by folk to breakdown and reclassify stuff, there are lurchers, longdogs and pure sight hounds and those three labels actually mean separate things, why is there a need to break 'lurcher' down any further, it doesn't make them any better or worse, thats in the breeding and training. I wouldn't have a problem with jeff burell if he just said - i breed exceptional lurchers. Why x38 do you want to call them tumblers - if you've bred some really good lurcher
  23. People breed too young also. It takes 3-4 seasons until you really know your ferrets ability.
  24. I wouldn't even be trying to decide if the jill was good at her job until the end of her third working season. Let a lone breed from her.
