  1. Alright mate - the thing is jills can stay in season unless taken out and although people will argue about this is is generally accepted that it is not good for her health. My advice would be to use a vac hob rather than the jab as it has less mental/hormonal ill effects. By using a vac hob she gets all the fun but no babies. Costs about 50/60 quid to have him vac'd. Jills will have their first season in the spring/summer following their birth (at 1 yr old) and will usually do so once a year. Most folk ferret between september (or after 1st frosts) and march (or when they start seeing a lo
  2. What if the ferret isn't moving or is something like 5 meters down???? Can he hear the bells then?
  3. Exactly like that but much much colder. Remember having to take flasks of hot water to melt the ground a bit to get the pegs in!
  4. YOU SOUND LIKE A HIPPY ANTI AGREED, every post ive ever seen of everybodys friend has been ridiculously pro human rights way too over the top. BETS ARE NOW BEING TAKEN THAT LURCHERS FRIEND IS A VEGAN, HUMANITARIAN, BUNNY HUGGING ANTI Because someone finds it really hard to stomach the some what ignorant jingoist rants that are about muslims/immigrants/pakistanis and crop up here at least twice a week (and are usually only contributed to by the same dozen folk) doesn't mean they don't hunt and kill game? The two are not related are they? And did you REALLY just try to use 'hum

  7. Miss seven ferrets, or something like that You could take your pick. . . . .
  8. Not being funny etc but the reason a lot of folk have probably not put up their pics is that in the last month or so there have been about 5 'show us your collie x's' threads. If you search back there is one with TONS of pictures on. well thats change since i was on here last last time all it was was show us your bullx threads i nearly did show you all my bollx but i thought i might get thrown off the sight for bieng a perv!! O yer some members of the the bollx brigade seem to have the memory of a goldfish.
  9. Yes that makes sense - before the invention of locators all terriers were bad. . . .
  10. I can get you a pink eyed chutney ferret. . . . only 20 quid?
  11. Aye - rule number one of ferreting . . . . trust your ferret - if it doesn't want to go down the hole its not ready to go down the hole. Or when it's older sometimes it means something BAD is down the hole.

  14. Polecat x Mink = Khonorik - popular in russia/eastern europe.
  15. They meant European Polecat, which is just a wild polecat.
  16. I wonder what her user name on here is . . . . .
  17. It's probably not this, but ferrets are susceptible to the human cold bug.
  18. My opinion is if you have to do that then they are not ready, i usually start mine about 7/8 months and they usually fly straight down. Don't really 'work' then until their second season, but just let them learn the ropes.
  19. With you 100% mate - guy should have asked you first. Also gets on my f*****g wick when so called 'rescues' put their own personal prejudice against working ferrets before giving a ferret a good permennt home with knowledgeable folk where it will be well looked after.
  20. A slight failing in the camera software? Due to the featureless upper background its putting in a contrast line? No idea mate.
  21. Sounds like she needs to mature more mate, whippets can often be slow to mature. I'd recommend reading Hellen Hansell/Hassel's book 'The Working Whippet'. Spend time with the dog getting her recall and retrieving a skin dummy etc spot on, get her heeling on a lead, sitting, staying etc. No point rushing the dog and if she has started to give in mid run, then shes been run on too many things she cant catch yet, and is thinking 'whats the point'. If i was you i would avoid running on game for a while and in a couple of months go and walk up some squatters on the lamp on a really wet and windy ni
  22. f*****g b*****ds, looks like she was a really handy dog and like you say, gave her all.
  23. "Sometimes you can get away with it", your words mate so I'll ask you the same as I asked others,- have you or do you know of anyone who has carried out any experiments regarding breeding, leaving in season and using a blank hob or the jill jab? I would be interested to hear of the results? If you don't know of any how can you write the above? Not having a go just wondering how you came to your conclusions. From what i have seen breeding is the best option with regards to health. . .. . but obviously thats a thing you should be doing rarely, so the second best option is a vac hob. Thanks for
  24. Fairplay. You could set up buisness accompanying young lads out permission hunting. You'd be rich.
