  1. Aye - 200 holes, maybe more, 50 rabbits, missed a few to.
  2. Lighten up mate - the f*****g dogs don't know it's any different from any other rat bashing, it gets them out doing what they enjoy and gives the owners a bit of fun. And also as you say its a good excuse to see dogs you have never seen work. . . . .work!
  3. Is a collie x now a 'Plummer Lurcher' - sounds like something out of CMW.
  4. guess its cause its there basic source of food and i agree a ferret will prob live a healthy od age without ever eating a rabbit.but its what we keep them for and its a readily available food source for them. Yer thats what i thought and to be honest i do tend to reach for the rabbits first as i have a 10 x 4 chest freezer full of the things in winter, but recently i've been shooting a lot of pigeons and the kits have been on a diet of whole bird, and i've noticed they grow like mad - i'm guessing the fat content. I also think that maybe different animals have different levels of dif
  5. Jesus that place is frightening, no wonder ferret breeding is all f****d up.
  6. Me! It's so soft and comfy, mind you i had to use 64 ferrets to accommodate my lanky frame.
  7. BBC1 Wales - undercover filming at vets - really shocking!
  8. even better if they cant swim. I like chucking them in the pond with bricks tied to their feet. See they were joking where as your a genuine racist nut bag. What was it you said before 'if it aint white, it aint right'?
  9. Depending on the size of the warren. If its a small 2/3 holer i would expect the holes to be found within a couple meter square area, but then again you do sometimes get a hole which is a good few meters off in the middle of the field - a bolt hole. Different land will produce different types of tunnel system. If your worried your best bet is to find a few holes where there are no other sets near and then have a look around and net ANY hole you find within a fairly large distance to be sure. We often have patches where there are probably 5/6 seperate sets, but you cant tell whats what, so we j
  10. Out of interest why do people think that rabbi is the BEST meat for ferrets to be fed? Is this just a conception that comes from the fact that you use the ferret to hunt rabbits? It is no better than pigeon or any other game and in fact if trying to build up kits or put weight on a ferret, birds like pigeon or chicken is better as it has a fat content that rabbit lacks.
  11. Are you for real? You know how many holes there are by counting them and they are usually found in the ground, along hedges, ditches, bits of woodland, general cover. Good luck 'bunny slayer'.
  12. I wouldn't worry so much about the pet keepers, half the folk who work their ferrets probably shouldn't be allowed near an animal.
  13. If people can do it with trained attack dogs or guard dogs then you can do it with sight hounds
  14. take a look at your aviator pal that say's it all its called an avatar. an aviator is a pilot which also says it all thicko. look before you leap. me thicko, i dont loose my f*****g dogs asshole Actually i think you do 'loose' them on various forms of quarry. Its lose. And he didn't, his missus temporarily misplaced them. Now stop being a c**t and leave the man alone.
  15. Didn't say the dogs were no good, just that they are produced in a way and for reasons i could not morally support by buying a pup directly from him.
  16. it's nothing like the same as stopping it chasing livestock, you want it to catch rabbits etc. most of the time, you never want it to chase livestock so it shouldn't run after livestock no matter what. No but it is kind of similar to the control needed to do the following - take one hungry dog, make him sit, place a bowl of really tasty meat in front of him and watch him sit there for 10-15 mins wanting the food so bad but not moving a muscle, before you give a command and only then does he eat. Not quite but close. It's also how you tell the dog to leave things it doesnt understand yet
  17. If we are walking in fields near a road and a rabbit jumps up in front of the dog and cuts trough the hedge into the road i would rather my dog didnt go after it into the path of oncoming traffic, if my dog is on a rabbit and the rabbit slips under a dry stone wall i would rather my dog didnt pile into the wall, although it is difficult, training to a whistle where one long blast means 'stop what your f*****g doing NOW' is very handy. No amount of shouting or swearing at the dog will stop it but the whistle cuts through. Obviously the longer its been 'on' the quarry the harder to call it off.
  18. To be fair plenty of folk can call their dog off game before it gets into its stride and goes running deaf, just takes training and control, same way you can send your dog onto quarry it doesnt know to chase if you command it. This does not make the dog poor in any way, just well trained. If your dog caught game it shouldnt or where it shouldnt be, the argument is that you should of had the dog under control and if you say 'aw but hes a lurcher its not my fault, he chases stuff and i can't stop him' then the police are obviously going to say 'you just admitted you cant control him off a lead s
  19. As long as you got what you wanted out of it i suppose the fact that the guy is a puppy farming peddler whos dogs are treated as money making breeding machines who are never excercised let alone worked, and kept in poor condition doesn't really matter. . . . Also his dogs are nothing special at all just a collie x greyhound with no working pedigree, thoughts to genetics or any work put into them, they offer nothing another litter will not other than it's easy to find, he's always got dogs and his name is attractive to the idiots who read plummer and take it as gospel. And he would say that a
  20. I have a ferret that fits the 'Greyhound' description to a T and yet both parents are normal ferrets . . . . . . hmmmmmmmm
  21. At least thats one back - don't give up hope matey.
  22. i would have expected a statement like that comeing from you Alright idiot boy. . . . what exactly IS wrong with my statement? I think it is in fact COMPLETELY understandable to expect folk who go about setting live catch traps to have thought of a humane way to dispatch of what they trap. I trap a lot of squirrels, rats, rabbits and mink in live traps and everything apart from the rabbits is pushed to one end of the trap with a comb and then given a shot in the head with the air gun. Killed dead in an instant. And i believe that i am also correct in saying that drowning
  23. To be honest the sport would be in a much better state if about 60 % or more of those who kept running dogs didn't. Yes, for some it will keep them out of trouble but in the case of many others it brings trouble into our sport.
