It's called a Joke make. Go look it up.

I agree with all that has ben said 100%, it's why i so rarely walk the dog in town, or round other folk. I know a guy though that has a huge, very fit american bulldog thing, f*****g monster. We were standing by his house the other day and the dog was out, no lead or muzzle, as we were in the yard, and i had left the gate open. A bloke with a saluki x walked by and this fecking great bull thing leapt fast as f**k, quicker than anyone could react, straight through the gate and was enroute to piling into the lurcher, which the owner whipped behind his legs, the guy i know shouted once, and

Squash is fast as f**k.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that in the past there were less of them, and so they were inbred more?
-
Well done, were you using nets or just bolting to the dog? And i keep thinking fen-trap.
-
Something like racing those big yachts that they have to do on their own, jumping about and having it on one side and shit, might be up there. And free climbing.

Vision is no use underground , and you do get messed up ferrets mate. I've seen them with swaying heads and also waltzing ferrets, where they go round in circles, something genetically wrong with the inner ear I think, only seen these problems in albinos. I just get no pleasure in breeding defective animals. That's my point mate, r.e whether the loss of vision is really a hindrance to a working ferret? My other point was, with regard to albinos being 'defective', while i agree that they are more likely to become defective, it cannot be such a likely thing, as breeding albino ferr

its not good going its incredible, 10.000 a year is 192 a week,,, thats 52 weeks a year , not just 6 month of hunting from sep to march ish. as i said thats some tally and dedication,,,, who has done this with one dog ideation??? Did Trigger not say, 7 nights a week if only taking in the 20's, and might have a night or 2 off in the week if doing 30's, 40's, 50, 60's. Even if you were doing low 20's 7 nights a week you would do over 5000 between september and march. Just doing the maths.

Aye mate i guess your right and all them whippets from MB etc are just pure shit and don't graft? Whereas all the whippets you see running about from her kennels are top workers? It's about the dogs, not the people. If it does the work it's supposed to and does it well, who gives a f**k who bred it??? Or what it's KC name prefix is? It's an old debate and it's boring, cos i've yet to see anyone hold up a whippet from mb and say it was a piece of shit. They only ever seem to chat on about the bloke. i have been coursing with her a few times and the proper lagunas were in a le

They seemed like lovely folks to be fair, if someone has to win that obscene amount of money, then i'm glad it went to a nice old couple from Ayrshire. But hell, that's a lot of money. Imagine the good you could do and the fun you could have. I think the greatest thing about it is the time you get (no work) and the way you can change folks lives. Oh and the big f**k off island / estate i'd buy stocked with game and feck all other people.

I sense a wee comp starting lol I might come doon wi rakeaboot just for back up like Which classes are we going for? Who's whippet breaks easiest? Or fucks off quickest? I'll have johnnyboy as my second. Actually, just a thought, should we not be uniting to defeat the old enemy? Nae competition in that mate, too easy 2 hours tops and I'll break all your whippets for you. And I'll make you all cry. Naaaw you secretly love him you big bully.

What use is vision underground??? I got a jill that can hardly see the end of her nose but is one of the best grafters i have seen, works almost everyday in the season. Albino ferrets have been around a long time, they were mentioned in literature 800 years ago, and if they were that f****d up and you were breeding them together for 800 years we should have some really messed up ferrets. Also you get plenty poleys with albino blood in them. Although i admit their eye sight is worse.
-
Sounds like it all came together nicely mate, my dog was the same, wanted to eat the ferrets until he saw them work and the penny dropped. Bet you can't wait for the season now!
-
The other advantage of course is that they do not need to be taken out of season like a jill, and can be vac'd to take jills out. The disadvantage is you will need to seperate them from your jills in summer if intact. I think few folk these days give hobs a chance and work them, everyone works jills, a good hob is worth it's weight in gold and that is the only hob that should be used to produce future generations, and so working and testing hobs is as important as jills. If someone suggested that they and all they knew only worked jills, would you buy a kit of them?
-
A lot of the time it's down to the individual ferret, and also i suppose what you like. But in general, the advantages of hobs are, they work slower, are more powerful, and stink more. The disadvantages are they can hold and kill bunnies quicker, and sometimes find difficulty going through nets. But this holding power can become an advantage if one wont bolt and you use collars. In my opinion a mixed team is more versatile.
-
P.S - well done for taking 5000-10000 rabbits a season with the one dog, that's good going in anyones eyes!
-
dont you do the same thing in the day? seen plenty of dogs collapse from being slipped on stuff. whats graft in your eyes. Sorry mate, what i meant was. If a guy is out twice a week and does 60 runs a night, taking 40 bunnies. and a guy is out 5 nights a week having 20 or less runs and taking 10 or less a night. Which dogs see more graft??? Just going out with dog and lamp and walking about isnt graft, unless you have the game to fill the time. Some folk can do more graft in far less time, due to the land / game they have.
-
By the way, i didn't mean to sound aggressive / defensive there. Lack of 'emoticons' is a pain in the ass.

Aye i agree, but sometimes it's jackanory time on here. Also i don't think it's 'graft' if you are walking about a field in the dark trying to find something to slip on.
-
I think the most common amount and combo will be two jills. I have been keeping 4 jills and 2 hobs, but have decided to increase this year to 5 jills and 3 hobs, and next year will add another jill or 2 (i hope), leaving me with 6/7 and 3. I think 10 ferrets is probably enough if they all are hard grafters, can't imagine needing to tackle a warren that will take more ferrets on my own. I usually only take about 4 on any one day, and then swop them round in different combos each day (i usually work them 7 days a week) resting any that are looking like they might need it.
