    Today, with Johnnyboy broken, the plan was to take out the two young lads Tom and Jake (14) and let them do a bit. Tom has been coming out us a lot and Jake has been out once before, although has showed good promise. Anyway, met the lads at about 9, but had a flat tyre, so had to sort that before we got going. We headed up to a farm which we have hammered, taking about 300 rabbits off this season, so i knew there wouldnt be a huge amount about, a bit of a clean up really.     A cur with a good dash of collie, cannot be beaten for the role of a true 'ferreting dog' in my opinion. Besides, finding a decent / well bred beddy grey will be some feat!

    I think the two lots that use dogs do kill them all and donate the meat to charity (great idea!), but the hawaian trapper guy (whos a bit of a tit), talks later one about the fact that he prefers to move them. Which is nuts cos at the same time hes ranting about how destructive they are. There is a scene later on where two of the florida newbie guys come on maybe a half dozen pigs at night in an irange grove, the dogs grab one, then another, then these two guys are each on their own holding a pig trying to tie its feet, while the dogs get lose and are grabbing at other pigs.     To be honest mate i have nothing whatsoever against you personally, and this post wasn't really aimed at you at all, it was just in general, although it was sparked by reading one members comments. Which im sure most get. The only things which you have said that i have not agreed with are - 1 - Suggesting that no one should ferret without a locator and that if they do they do not care about their ferrets. When in many cases this is not true. I have witnessed folk who very much care about their ferrets, enjoy plenty of days ferreting, catch decent numbers of bunnies and not lose ferrets

    Aye mate. The thing is, i am at a point now, where i feel that the current line up of my usual ferreting team men / dogs / ferrets wise can pretty much catch as many rabbits as are put in front of it. Lots of rabbits on the land, lots caught, then no rabbits. But the thing is, i like a good hunt nowadays, not just walking along a flat field by a hedge mechaniclly pulling bunnies out of holes. Dont get me wrong i love bolting a shit ton of rabbits, dogs and men flying everywhere, especially the sens of satisfaction when you have bolted a dozen rabbits from a set and missed none.     I had planned to get out this morning and do a bit of bushing and have a bit of a general mooch about with the dog, as he hasn't been out much in the day for the last few days. However i ended up having a few jobs to do and had to go into town, so didnt manage to get out until about 2pm. Decided to go and check out a bit of woodland that borders some land i have permission on, and where i am not usually bothered. . . .     That's very true mate, there is an art to scratching up a couple of bunnies when you are out on land which holds no bunnies

    I prefer the 'table top whack method'. 1 - Place the rabbit on a flat surface (such as a table top, but any will do). 2 - Hit rabbit as hard as you can with a large wooden mallet, somewhere round the middle. 3 - Clean up.

    Aye it's a good show, there are three things i keep thinking though. 1 - Sometimes they make a meal of the whole thing and lose some pigs, by spending an age trying to take the pigs alive, when they could just stick it and quickly move on and grab the rest of the mob. 2 - The guy in Hawiai keeps going on about how much the pigs destroy the local eco system, but them goes on about releasing the ones he catches in remote parts of the island (where surely the ecosystem is more precious / fragile). 3 - They are American as f**k, and everything is a bit 'epic / exciting / dramatic' to them.
