  1. Cheers Rocky mate! She is a good girl, never been any kind of hunting before she met me, and she now enjoys mooching about daytime with the ferrets, and the odd short walk with the lamp. In truth she loves the dog and likes watching him run, and she's even started asking about of she can have a runner herself in the future. Can't complain!
  2. Cheers Trig Aye FH i know mate. He does for me, he will find game wherever i take him (if its there) and he's a good, honest little hunter. Biggest down side is his skin. And yer he is ss bred (well sort of), he came from Mike B, out of two his his ss bred dogs.
  3. Cheers guys. Aye fencehopper - i know it's just a personal thing, i didn't take any offence. I quite like the bat ears, they kind of suit his ridiculous personality, and are quite handy when ferreting as you can watch they way they move and they tell you quite a lot. As for breed standards / fault - well. . . . there isn't much about him that really fits the breed standard
  4. Sound Hound That's his radar equipment. Stan - Then stains are actually my poor attempts at patching barbed wire holes in my crotch. Well, that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it
  5. The coursing world has been polluted by money. No wonder there is so much bitterness, lies and theft of dogs.
  6. Cheers all He's quite suited for the land i have to lamp - little, fast sheep fields. Tyla - with her in Germany it's been a bit of a mission, but i was thinking of just coming down with dog and ferret in next couple of weeks one weekend? Whin - Coming from you, that's almost glowing praise Tote - He's about 21.5 tts, and i'm about 6 3"
  7. Cheers guys Malc. . . only in the nicest possible way
  8. My missus is staying at the moment and she fancied taking him out for a couple of runs the last two nights after supper. Last night we it was still and pretty light when we headed out, we decided to try a little spot a short drive up the road. Parked up and dog on slip and the first couple of fields we couldn't get a run, too light and a herd of daft sheep running about. Then a long slip at a runner, a miss under the fence, the dog f*****g about a bit as usual, then coming back. Another rabbit sitting out in the lee of some rubble, dog off, and just as he gets there it disappears. On i
  9. The old guy was probably telling the truth. Lots of folk use dogs to show them if rabbits are to ground. Pretty much any dog can do it, most use lurchers, whippets, terriers, gun dogs etc. Or just a cur. The dog learns through exposure and practice, and learns to scent the rabbits below ground and indicate someway - a raised foot, or sniffing down the hole, or freezing above it etc. It's called 'marking' and saves a lot of time.
  10. The number of folk diagnosed as 'depressed' is fecking HUGE, probably even bigger than the number that have FAC's. . . . . . maybe only just. One thing i definatly agree with is that there should be like in Germany, a bit of a shooting and gun saftey exam for anyone who wants a hunting / gun licence.
  11. Fair play. I'm sure you do get the odd one that has escaped / been released. But having caught those kind, they do not have the same body shape / type as wild rabbits, especially when you open them up, and they no way run the same. Most likely your one is just a random freak, they can occur everywhere.
  12. I'm with the One. Although i have a couple of jills here who i would send down a bigger warren alone and they would get it done. Just takes longer really!
  13. how did they get there in the first place then if its got f**k all to do with the keepers as u put it ???? and also if there was the colours or colors as you said why are they only in certain areas when black is a dominant colour and the natural colour of uk rabbits is gray ? get looking on google boy Do you have any understanding of genetics? Or natural selection? Agouti (the colour of rabbits fur) is not one colour, it is made of many hairs of a variety of colours all mixed together. As rabbits breed very quickly, and their populations are quite dense, they tend to show up possib
  14. Maybe they should stop handing out FAC's like parking tickets. . . . .
  15. f**k all to do with game keepers. It's just variation / mutation of the agouti coat which is made up of all those colors.
  16. A lot of it is situation dependant. My young dog was happily to the point where he could walk / ferret / run around and near sheep with no dramas. Then one day we were mooching through a woodland, with thick cover and a scraggy black little sheep burst out of a thick patch and went hammering away through the ferns. We'd literally 5 mins ago been in a field full of sheep, playing with him and he ignored them. However the dog locked onto the movement and ran and pulled the sheep. When i caught up with him he had it pinned to the ground, but was a bit confused as to what he was go
  17. yes i was thinking that, sooner or later you would think the numbers would drop off. Is catithness no good then for rabbs,? i suppose nothing last for ever, by me 10 years ago was ok not big bags, but dozen a night 3-4 nights, now lucky to get dozen a week Aye, it's not as good as it was, not anyway near. Same round me mate, used to be decent bags to be had regular round here, but then a lot of lads started coming from other places to run their dogs, shoot, ferret etc. Cos they had heard there was plenty of game. And now it's hard going indeed to scrape together rabbits on the lamp,
  18. Aye, and you are pulling down 500 kilo bears all the time. Give it a rest you boring b*****d
  19. Don't matter where you are, 100 rabbits in one sessions with one dog is still impressive. Mind you it's going to happen less and less. Look at caithness. Dales will be the same way in not too long. Always happens when lots of folk get to know about it and want to rush in to make their name with the big bags. EIther kills off all the game or gets too hot.
  20. Can't ever trust any dog to not touch stock 100% in every situation. Mistakes are made.
  21. No mate, it just has a shoulder strap, but its slung below the back pack to make it more comfortable. I have thought of attaching it, but with the weight of three ferrets or more it would all be a bit cumbersome.
