  1. Time of year mate, more than half way through the season. . . . getting a decent adult ferret is a hard task.
  2. I have noticed recently that there is an increasing trend by some folk on here (and they are growing in numbers), to look down on folk that do less than themselves. Folk hunt in many different ways and for many different reasons, and as such, some do a lot, even do it professionaly, and some just do the odd bit here and there as it pleases them. A certain member is the worst cuplrit for this - where it seems that anyone who isn't out 5 days a week feeding the village by harvesting 100's of bunnies a week off the bleak and harsh moors, is just 'messing' and to be bellittled and looked d
  3. Just been watching it on the net. Some good dog footage even if the people are a bit lame. Quite cool dog-cam stuff as well.
  4. probably but its a serious question mate, the use of technology removing the need of dog/man etc and peoples ignorance as to what they are missing and I know you,ve got a decent reply in yer heid so lets have it In short, i agree, folk dont really have to think, listen, read the signs and work stuff out. Its like most things in life, these gadgets remove the 'hardship / challenge' in life, and with that you lose skills you once had to over come that difficulty and you were probably a better hunter for it. But with the locator you are probably a more efficient rabbit harvester. Its
  5. lol your like a dug with a bone when it comes to whin I know I,m ashamed of myself With regards to the show, just remember they are american. . . . .
  6. I know what you are saying, but you are going to get a lot of flak
  7. Internet or sky mate, it's about the hog problem in the states and different groups of pest controllers who catch / kill them and most of them use dogs.
  8. Anyone else watched this series, it's pretty good, quite a few dog hunting scenes.
  9. I dunno mate, just an idea. . . . Can't really think of much else, i dont really believe ferret jack, once they are good enough if that make sense? Unless there is a decent reason.
  10. Couple of thing to think about when your building - Feeding them. Cleaning them out. Seperating jills / hobs / nursing / whatever if need be. And that underground pipes are daft, they just drag carcasses down, they rot and its generally wank for all concerned if its in your garden and the ferrets yard.
  11. you know mate thats what i keep thinking, but he is housed alongside 4 jills an another hob an none a them are It's the light though isnt it, and even though its warm, they still shouldnt be coming in. Had a bad kick? It does happen.
  12. no whin you said rakeabout has the dragging ferret, i said mine had done it a couple times, but he has also dragged them further in, i dont think he knows where is dragging them, he just drags them, so inevitably some times he ends up bringing them out... you said rakes does it all time, did you not??? i am 33 whin an have been ferreting every season i been alive barring 4 while i was in army an 1 or 2 while i was learning to walk Lightweight
  13. Coming into season cos its basiclly fecking summer out there?
  14. The collie is coming out in him now mate, choosing his runs.
  15. I'm lucky on my local ground that I hunt most I know all the warrens and most run that shallow me or dog can usually pick up the bumping.Usually If I did lose a ferret that hadn't returned the next day I'd borrow Jai's locator put it on my hob and send him down he'd be able to find his girl/girls. S&R Ferret
  16. Aye, but when we stuck the ferrets to ground, we didn't have any idea what was down there (apart from rabbits), as it was our first time ferreting that set. We still took 13 rabbits or so out of the set and got all the ferrets out. so not all bad.
  17. honeslt whin this thing was more terrier like than most terriers dont know how he done it, but he had a knack of having 4/5/6/7/8 bunnys in a stop end but alas he aint no more maybe i need a ferret whisperer Sounds more collie
  18. Yes mate, ironicaly you would now be able to say you had lost 1 ferret in your life, due to using a locator For the record we even went back a second day re-dug the hole (it was on / near a foot path) and tried to use cutting equipment to get to the 2nd collar. . . . no joy.
  19. They do fine mate, and there are ten of the feckers, so they have a few line ups
  20. I suppose it's like terriers, do you have room in your kennel for the bayer / mixer type who you can call out after a half hour, after you can get a bolt. I have a wee jill, who will stick and kill her rabbit quite happily and then you can depend on her to walk out and see whats going on. You can however send her back down and then dig to her, as she knows the score. I've got other ferrets who are b*****ds for sitting there like a numpty ragging a dead bunny. None however will leave a living one running about. I guess doing that is either jacking or doing a half arsed job.
  21. I do like my collars at times, if i'm on my own at a big set, in the woods, especially in the early season with all the cover still about, it's nice to know the ferret is still to ground, and roughly where she might be. But even with locators we always seem to find places where you are f****d for digging, either off the box, or in such a place where digging isnt an option. And johnny is just bitter cos the one time we put the colars on his jiills, we had to dig a man sized hole through rock on the side of a mountain, to two collars stuck on some submerged metal. We dug through a feckin
  22. Great kit in some senses, but lets not lie, they are an over priced piece of badly made shit I'm f*****g sick of trying to figure out why its not working, and you KNOW if it says 4 foot, it's either 3, or 5, never fecking 4!
