  1. Daschund means badger dog, in german. Thats what they were bred for originally, they are still widely used for both earth work and above ground hunting (mainly tracking wounded game or driving boar etc to guns), but now are mainly reffered to as 'Teckles'. There are shit loads in europe and quite a few here, i have a dog with some in its make up. R.E Pharoh hounds - when folk tell me that dogs like that were 'great hunters', it usually means, "for a pet dog that i expected to do f**k all, its a great hunter", against a purpose bred dog, they usually look shite!

If that's true, its very recent, because the hungarians are massivly into their coursing, and the magyar agar is their favoured breed. They also love a bit of digging!

Yes, i lived there for about five years, great country!
  4. Probably, but its more of a lottery i would say. Look at the australians!
  5. I have seriously f****d up a number of times . . . its not nice!
  6. I have thought this before, it would be interesting to know the rough numbers being taken in a season across the board.
  7. Is the lack of speed the only thing thats a negative? With greater speed would that make her a good dog or an out standing dog? I think most dogs will have something a bit lacking, and if they are still a good dog, then they may be worth breeding off, if by adding that good thing, you may make the pups out standing. Also, could a better bred pup be bought in?
  8. Cheers all! GRCH - Funnily enough mate, we kill only a very small number of Welsh rabbits, they are a rarity here, so we are trying to preserve them. We kill English bunnys for the most part.
  9. I have done a bit of lamping with him, but dont have the numbers local (where i mostly lamp) to show much, but last time out he killed five out of the five rabbits we saw. For a whippet he is decent enough. Was a b*****d for hunting up though, and very much a one man dog.

  12. Got up early doors and did the birds by light of the quad head lights, and then headed off to pick up Johnnyboy, and his two mutts Gem and Luna, today we were off to have a look at a field on a new piece of land that the farmer had noticed was getting some attention from rabbits, that he wanted cleared. Got there around nine, and met our friend, who took us to the land and showed us the field in question, a smallish field of what was rape, but was due to be re planted. There was obvious signs of rabbit activity and as we had a mooch around, we could see there were a few about. As we were w
  13. I fecking hate getting wet feet! Managed to avoid it last two days, despite walking in streams etc. But i did lose a welly for a bit today, went for a rabbit in a net and my foot got stuck in the mud and my wellie came off, so was hoping about trying to dispatch the bunny and keep my foot dry. Twat.
  14. Finished work yesterday and got home about five, decided to have an hour out with the dog, and take one of the jills a long. I took Tilly, who is probably my favourite of the nine ferrets, a good, solid grafter, and a proper wee character, shes the softest ferret i have ever owned. Anyway, i headed for a local patch of woodland and let the dog have a good mooch about and explore, tracked a fox for a while, which we never saw, and eventually got a couple of marks on small sets. Only had the two, one from each set, but it was an enjoyable hour, out on my own with the dog and the woodland
  15. Well done Andy mate, we are off to check out some new land tomorrow that hasn't had a ferreting for a while. Fingers crossed that it coughs like yours did
  16. Any one know it its actually Heartbreak Fell, or just someone throwing the name around?
  17. Well done mate, and thats a real bonus, your pup grabbing the rabbit, just shows how handy a good dog by your side is! Maybe ask the house about permission on the field? Its always worth asking.
  18. It doesnt have to hit the hedge at 100mph to be effective around them. My dog will follow a rabbit into cover, and if hes right on its arse he will plunge in, but miostly you can see him looking ahead, slowing a bit and picking his line.
  19. Lamping last night and digging first light this morning . . . . i'm fecking knackered!
