  1. That's luna mate, she has been on every trip this season, that's just a good photo of her! She should look bigger and stronger - she is Bull/whip/grey x beddy/grey
  2. The thing is, folk do silly x's, like some kind of stupid breed (great dane, yorkie, whatever) and they do a first x, with a whippet or a grey. Then, the odd pup works, had prey drive, can run a bit etc, and they think that the great dane or yorkie, or poodle or fecking whatever, has potential to be the bees knees. What they forget is that any sort of usefulness in the dog comes from the whippet or greyhound blood. A good greyhound, would be a fecking fantastic dog, if it wasnt so fast and frail that it had no stamina and broke easily (i mean skin, feet etc). Way back, all the runn
  3. Yeah mate nobody was aloud on there after that all happened. Fair play, i think this is the embankments, not sure of the deal, have not seen it yet.
  4. FM - Pretty much if the dogs mark it, it gets done. Have had kills in tough places, but i have a couple of ferrets that i know will kill and move on, so just use them. Worst was digging to a lost collar (well two), we got the one out, but couldnt get the other, even after returning the next day with cutting gear, we hit a big roll of chain link fence down there and couldnt get through it all. Fitchet - I'm assuming that was just some kind of moral stance?
  5. Funny one, was digging 8 foot or more, and having to cut down through a buried car!
  6. If its held rabbits, we've ferreted it! Lots of junk piles, old tips, bankings, piles of brush, old farm machinery, various barns and buildings, stone walls, piles of stone, gardens, sports pitches, river banks, pile of railways sleepers . . . . . . lots more im sure. Have one to do soon on a proper race course (horses), i wont say which one though!
  7. Aye Jamie mate, living here, we have to travel. I'd say our minimum really, is 200 mile round trip, up to around 500 mile round trip. Just got to do it to get the work in front of the dogs / ferrets, its not fun, but its worth it!
  8. What do you mean by 'unlikely places'? And how far apart are those three farms?
  9. I understand their historical connections mate, but looking at the average GD now, i'm just impressed that they manage to chase a pig without drowning in their own drool!
  10. I would guess the latter is due to hounds being noisy.
  11. Daschund means badger dog, in german. Thats what they were bred for originally, they are still widely used for both earth work and above ground hunting (mainly tracking wounded game or driving boar etc to guns), but now are mainly reffered to as 'Teckles'. There are shit loads in europe and quite a few here, i have a dog with some in its make up. R.E Pharoh hounds - when folk tell me that dogs like that were 'great hunters', it usually means, "for a pet dog that i expected to do f**k all, its a great hunter", against a purpose bred dog, they usually look shite! I know a lad that has
  12. We have nets to, but only two hands! You lay 50 nets down a long a long hedge or 100 + on a banking, and have lots of action, and a dog pinning them in the nets and grabbing those that slip, is a fecking godsent, running and diving for the rabbits is too much like hard work!
  13. You would have to be a fecking nutter to say where you caught them - i was assuming it was just like, say - we've had 150/200 this month. Not - we had x amount from this place.
  14. Fourth photo down - dog watches man have a shit.

To be honest mate, i just asked about I love eastern and central europe, cheap, good food, beautiful women, great partys, brilliant hunting an scenery . . . . you can't beat it in my books, oh and a fecking mental language!

I lived in Budapest, but spent a lot of time all over the country. I know where you are, and yes, the army land is great, they are pretty lax about where you go, and are very cool about you running game out on the plains Just dont tell too many folk Brits tend to ruin most places they go
  18. ANd i fecking love telling folk that own them that they were originally bred for digging old Brock! They hate it!
  19. I would say the upside down entry thing is pretty much bollocks, well, no more than any other terrier, that will get down there any which was it can! I also agree that you can get most breeds hunting, if you bring them up on it, but you just cannot beat generations of selective breeding, very very very rarely anyway! Think of it like this - with all of the selective breeding etc, you still have plenty of failures in litters of sighthounds, terriers etc, so what chance does a pet bred thing stand?

Yes, they are great about the digging, and in the rural parts the locals think its great. I miss the country a lot, but looks like we are moving back (or somewhere close!) yay! Out of interest, where are you?
  21. They are now called Teckles. They are worked extensivly in europe, both above and below ground, and are also popular in this country. I have a hound x here with teckle / daschund in her make up. Interestingly 'Daschund' means 'Badger Dog' in German.
