  1. Mutation of the agouti gene. Usually only seen in an area with a decent population. usually you get the odd ginger one too Aye, seen whites, gingers, rough coated ones, blacks, black and whites etc etc etc. Oddest i seen is a totally white fron half and a totally normal back half.
  2. Right, all of this, standing on your high moral horse aside. The lad asked a fecking question - would the load be capable of killing a fox at that range. What he didnt ask, was if it was the best round for fox control. The answer is - plenty of foxes are killed dead ever year by both barrels of game shot. Its not the right tool for the job, and its not a good idea to go out looking for foxes with that load, but it IS capable of killing one. And coldweld - if i was shooting my dog, i would probably use the .410 if i was using a shotgun, as one would hope you were doing it point blan
  3. Mutation of the agouti gene. Usually only seen in an area with a decent population.
  4. Wet summer - no kits - no bunnys & no hares. SHIT.
  5. Building dams across little brooks with mud, rocks and sticks. Building dens. Collecting any wild animal i could get my hands on, birds, rabbits, mice, frogs, newts etc, and taking them home Going exploring with the dogs. Riding on the tractor with my dad. Spending time with my grandfather.
  6. Ive had to have a wee think about this recently and i realise im lucky in that without having to make any firm arrangements, i know that my lot would go between familly and close friends and always be done right by. With my body, id like to be burnt and scattered somewhere wild.
  7. Good couple of days, rough shooting, lamping, clay shooting and giving Finn his oats!

  8. Rabbit for maintaining weight and birds for bulking up.
  9. I go all over the country, and this year has been the worst ever. I put it down to the very wet summer that f****d breeding and killed a lot of kits, most of what ive caught has been older rabbits from the previous year, Even areas where there are still decent numbers, its less than previous years (apart from isolated pockets). Im sure someone will disagree because they have been out and caught a few, so there must be loads Its the same with hares, the wet summer f****d them right up.
  10. SHIT! Was ok until this summer, then it got really f****d, went from 40-50 a session to 5-10.
  11. From what i have learnt so far, it seems to be pretty much, making the environment as favourable as possible for the birds, through feeding, habitat management, and killing anything (legally) that might try to eat them or upset them. Oh, and dogging in. lots and lots of that. And then running the shoot day. And being the fall guy if anything goes tits up.
  12. A certain someone i know once got arrested whilst ferreting near a prison as they thought he was burying weapons or something daft. Its sometimes funny escorting poachers off 'your' land. At the end of the day i usually blame the dog.
  13. Cheers All! Wilf - Turns out the missus had a proper mental breakdown. She is back but its 'difficult'. Mr Scent - as mental as usual buddy. You? Rake - Next time matey, be back in scotland in not too long!
  14. Just thought i'd add my peice. I think some dogs are just like that to an extent, and have a prey drive that just over rides everything else when game is near.
  15. Just agreed to a training jog. 112 km in a oner. This training lark is probably going to kill me faster than the TM.
  16. Looking at it another way as well, by prolonging the lives of individuals we are probably shortening the life of the species.
  17. This has come up a million times. Its a mutation of the agouti gene.
  18. To be honest mate, this just started as a general what would you do, i need ideas thread, it terms of, moving somewhere, or some kind of interesting career path, but a few beers later, the cat was out the bag so to speak, its better than t.v tho, ay?
  19. Cheers for all the ideas and advice lads, i've realised now my biggest mistake was taking it too much for granted that she loved me, and not putting enough effort into fixing the little problems here and now, but always just thinking, we would sort them out once the bad patch was through etc. Eventually there was one thing too much, and she just snapped, and it changed the way that she had felt about me for years, pretty much in an instant. Now there is nowt much that i can do, other than wait and see if once she has a little space and time, she will decide that she feels like she did before,
  20. I agree completely mate, its just that she has kind of snapped, had a bit of a breakdown and doesnt want to see me for a couple of months, and i think if i just turn up on her door step, it will just make things worse. Its mental, ive spoken to her every day for pretty much four years, every day since i have been back in the u.k Its just fecking weird without talking to her etc. What i want to do is go and get her and make her see that we love each other and this is just a f****d up situation, thats kinda make things fall apart for a little bit, but we can sort it and live happily ever aft
  21. Cheers lads, for all of the kind words. Its a difficult one because as Bird said i was happy with my lot before i met her, but that was a long time and about 1000 miles away. She really is the perfect woman for me, in pretty much everyway, i woudnt change a thing, i had it so lucky and knew it, i just f****d it up in the end. To be honest at the moment im struggling to even get out of bed. But i think you are right Tomo if i cant get her back i might just have to walk away and have an adventure.
  22. Its ok mate, ferret girl is his carer and she does a grand job
