    Also looking at it another way - the forces of law an order, just tried to black mail you into removing something you have every legal right to display, by insinuating that they will try to get your kids taken off you . . . . and all because someone personally does not like it. Discrimination and bullying. That's border line illegal i would think?

    To be honest if that was me, i would make a big thing of it. There is a BIG difference between what someone does not personally like and what is deemed unacceptable by Social Services. I work with SS regularly, and to suggest that because you take your lads shooting they might get involved is completely laughable. I would be straight on the phone to the boss man down the station and more. At the end of the day it isn't illegal, and it isn't endangering them, or in-appropriate for their age, it's just that someone has complained about you and found a sympathetic idiot policeman.

    You don't really listen do you? Simple question - can a whippet kill a fox. Simple answer - yes. Your answer - 'bullshit' - was wrong. end of. The fact that you met some muppets who thought they could turn their whippet into a regular single handed fox dog, has no bearing. NO ONE on here was claiming that they thought their whippet was the real deal when it came to regularly taking fox, just that a good few have seen it being done with a single whippet, and even without the dog getting 'ruined'.

    Forgetting for a second that Buzzards are dirty b*****ds. Don't give it up to the RSPCA, they will kill it quicker than much else, because they no feck all about them. Get it to a BOP sanctury and out your hair.

    Do you really think there are not many terriers that would be able to kill a fox above ground if they got hold of it? You must have some pretty hard core foxes round you, that they 'ruin' dogs, 35-40lb in weight and 21/22 " tts. Teeth are teeth, if the dog gets their hold in the right place, the fox will die, doesn't matter if it's a terrier, a spaniel, a collie, a lab, a lurcher or a whippet (seen all of the above kill them). No one is saying any of the above would make or are purpose bred fox dogs. Just that you don't need a dog built like king kong to kill a fox.

    That sums it up very well mate. I don't think there is anyone claiming that they are better for the job than a purpose bred lurcher. However, i'd bet a decent one would do it quicker than a shitty lurcher that was running the other way. You can have a dog the size of a rhino that's just not interested.

    I think you are confused. I don't think any one here was claiming to have found the new foxing breed. The question was, can a whippet kill a fox single handed. The answer was, yes, some can. Maybe not regularly, and maybe not several a night. But anyone who got a whippet purposefully to hunt fox, is a fool. But to say that a whippet trying to kill a fox is like hitting a rhino with a stick is retarded. Yes you get some tough foxes, but its a fecking fox, not a timber wolf. A dog does not need to be the size of a donkey and weigh the same as a mini to kill one, they ain't THAT big.

    How much does a fox weigh? How much does a big whippet weigh? How much does a terrier weigh? I'd expect a terrier to be able to kill one if it managed to catch it in cover above ground. Wouldn't you?

    Without meaning to be a knob . . . . if it's a 47,000 acre estate with a real hare problem. What difference is shooting one hare going to make? I see a lot of pest controllers on here, talking about doing needed pest control on a species, such as rabbits or hare, and they shoot/ferret/trap whatever, a tiny number. I just don't get it? And i'm not knocking you shooting that hare, at the end of the day, it's your land and your hares.

    Think its way more common in the working dog world than in the pet dog world. Pet dog owners like to breed off 2 yr old fluffy, because she is young and they want another little fluffy. But to be honest, most decent working dog folk only start thinking of breeding a bitch around the 4/5/6 year old mark. And plenty of healthy litters have been reared by 7/8 year old bitches. You just need to make sure she is well looked after, well fed and fit etc.
