  1. Sorry to be critical, and its only going on a photo, but it doesn't look a very happy dog.
  2. I found a really old terrier a few years ago, she was also in a state. We contacted all the authorities etc and got told that they were at bursting point with stray dogs and the freezers were full!(was new years eve when we found her). Anyway nobody claimed her..so we took full responsibility, she only lasted another year before she had to be put to sleep. All i can say is it really was worth every second giving the old girl some love. You won't regret it.
  3. Just wondering if anybodys got any litters planned for the near future. I may be getting another rabbiting lurcher.....depending on the wife, the one i have now still works with a passion, but is showing her age. So just curious of any future litters...may all be in vein but we shall see...cheers.
  4. A lovely crisp morning bushing listening to the terriers in full cry as they flush a rabbit thats travelling like an exocet missle out of the bramble....and of course the lurcher going like a bat of hell.
  5. My whippet could deal with a good nights lamping, but tired quickly when chasing a hare up hill.
  6. Just wondering if anyone has worked a collie greyhound X whippet bedlington or something along those lines and what it worked and looked like,,height etc.
  7. Found this strange looking lurcher.........vizla cross of sorts............ http://www.lurcherlink.org/llink/forum/viewtopic.php?t=59322
  8. Sorry to hear it pal, you must be gutted.
  9. Just wondering where people have bought their beardie lurchers from. You don't seem to see that many advertised. My long gone beardie/border was from hancock many years ago he was excellent at hunting up and had massive prey drive. I'm surprised they're not more popular. Has anydody continued their own line off hancock or created their own beardie lurcher using other stock?
  10. Plenty of choices out their most will do the job, but i work 2 small jacks, i need them to get into really tight bramble therefore i like them small, able to work the thick stuff like silk, not having to crash through it like some bigger dogs do. Likes been said if you have plenty of earths might be worth you working something less prone to going to ground. Both my jacks are not from hardcore stuff, but saying that the little one has gone to ground 3 times.....only for a short while but it seemed like forever. I would def not get something too leggy though, would have to be a cocker or very sh
  11. Looks mutts nuts in that second pic
  12. I always keep mine on, but i used to know an old bloke who would never keep a collar on his lurcher in case it snagged on a branch when working.
  13. I work two terriers and a collie/greyhound, cover a fair bit of woodland and chase the odd rabbit and squirrel..never had no injuries to date, but the lurcher been doing it from young and shes very careful compared to some dogs ive run. What bedlington crosses are they...its something im considering getting next.
  14. Considering this cross myself like sh@t off a shovel, but may edge towards border collie/greyhound cross whippet, bit more sensible and less injury prone....easy to train....maybe chuck some bedlington in there too.
  15. I used to lamp my border collies. For me its never been about the numbers more the quality of sport. I lamped both a bitch and a dog both picked it up quickly. The only problem i had to over come was that the bitch loved to hunt on after the rabbit had hit cover. Very good sport.
  16. I had one many years ago, he was as keen as mustard, but in all fairness he struggled with hares..lacked the stamina unless taken straight away.
  17. Worked both a border collie/greyhound and a beardie/border/greyhound. The beardie/border lurcher had a very strong prey drive and was excellent at hunting up...and i can't ever remember him damaging his feet....he was a very laid back dog at home..but really turned it on in the field. He had fantastic strike, was crazy for hunting foxes (something ive never bothered with), he was a very single minded dog. The collie greyhound was more inclined to training,.....quite often injured her feet and didn't hunt a field no where near as good as the beardie/border. The border lurcher would
  18. Collie/greyhound and the bushers
  19. That sounds a nice thought out cross. Just in the process of convincing the misses that i need one soon...she has other ideas though..wanting me to wait another 2 years. Shame that i live in north Sheff.
  20. Ok thinking of getting another lurcher and i would appreciate your input, the bitch i have now is 8 and its showing(collie greyhound...23 inch). Thinking of getting something a bit different. Fancy something like a collie/greyhound cross whippet or something with bedlington in it. I mainly do day time bushing with the terriers in small fields and woodland, so the lurcher needs quick acceleration and good strike. I thought about a whippet , but one i used to work who wasn't bad at all did tend to strike a bit late..(im sure there not all like this),tending to be quicker up to the rabbit but not
