  1. You could always try training to the whistle as it dosen't show any frustration or anger, whereas shouting her back can do.
  2. I wouldn't let her off the lead for some time. A friend of mine has just gone through exactly the same as you with his whippet. He had to slowly rebuild the bond they had. First, at home, he waited for the dog to come to him and then praised him loads, he never went over to the dog for a while, not saying this is the right way, but this is what worked for him. He then went out and did basic recall, but had the dog on a long length of washing line, he used treats and praise, but use what ever works for your dog. My friend had to spend months slowly building up their bond again, but it paid off.
  3. Hancock gets slagged off left right and centre, yet MB is a hero to some people. I wouldn't again buy off somebody who produces that many litters a year, and i don't care if the pups are pre booked are not. It still stands to fact that his bitches are pushing too many pups out and that hes doing it off the back of one long gone dog. Most whippets will work well if entered right, but i would be very picky who you bought one from, from what i have found out too many people are into breeding working whippets for the wrong reasons....mainly money. There is no need to breed more than one litter eve
  4. Real nice photos. Ive tried to capture my bitch when she runs towards me and i can never manage to get it as sharp as i want. Not as easy as it looks.
  5. I def think its the way forward for me. One of the main qualities i like in my lurchers is the ability to hunt up and be biddable. My current collie/greyhound is't that good at hunting up, gets bored quickly if there isn't much about, where as my old beardie/border lurcher lived for using his nose, didn't appreciate how good he was at the time. I would def want a bit of collie in the mix.
  6. Isn't he just another puppy farmer to some extent?
  7. Found this on youtube, put a smile on my face, ferreting like their life depended on it..
  8. I know a fair few experienced dog men on have learned through time that working lurcher to working lurcher seems to produce there favoured type of dog. I personally haven't owned a lurcher to lurcher only first type greyhound crosses. Im still undecided what my next lurcher will be (or possibly whippet), but i am swaying to towards a lurcher to lurcher pup. Now i have heard and read that the litters can be quite varied and there is no knowing exactly what the pups are going to throw to. So can anyone throw any advice just how varied the pups can end up being. Also wondering what qualities
  9. Ive had two hancocks. My current one is now touching nine, good bitch but not as good as my long gone dog. Wouldn't buy another off him for obvious reasons, but put the work in and you shouldn't be dissapointed.
  10. Very nice looking... what were the dam and sire?
  11. I souldn't really laugh, but i nearly pissed me self.... Nice dogs .
  12. Sounds a good dog, no dogs perfect and theres always going to be a bit of jealousy when more than one dogs woked together. As long as you are happy with it thats all that matters. If i listed all the faults my dogs have i would be here all day.
  13. I work two Jack russels with my collie/greyhound, not hard core russels just ya average jrt. Good combination
  14. Funny you should mention good on foxes, i only hunt rabbits, but the one i had was forever finding foxes in the daytime..never known anything like it. Also at home he was the most laid back dog i have owned (saying that he did get plenty of exercise), but once out he was a different dog.
  15. Keep my dogs inside and i am considering buying a couple of those waterproof dog beds (like a big cushion), i have seen various types ( house of paws etc) and various price tags. Just wondering if anybody has any experience of using these and what manufacturer you recommend. Thanks

  17. Lovely looking dog, and i for one like white lurchers.
  18. Had no probs with mine other than getting a gorse thorn in his eye which had to be operated on, tough little dog had a few sprains, but nothing too bad. No more or less injury prone than my lurchers, just didn't like standing still in cold wet weather..but fine if moving.
  19. I think its an excellent idea, getting it a pal. I work 3 and they all get along fine and all have a bond with me, infact my third has the strongest bond with me out of the 3. Its not just a case of having enough work its also down to the type of hunting you do, i mainly do bushing, hence two terriers and a lurcher for the bolts. If i was just i into lamping then i would possible just have one or two.
  20. At the North of Sheffield, J35 OR 35a M1, Beech House Veterninary Clinic, 106 Greengate Lane, Sheffield, S35 3GT, Tel 0114 2844855.... Run by one fella called Allen, found him very good, pricing about average, find all vets too expensive, so i wouldn't say he's cheap, but like i said a very good vet, he's the only vet you deal with.
