  1. Trimmex is a powder which is made to stop the bleeding of the nail. Not too much to buy and is very good, we used to use it in the grooming parlour. But if dry soap works then why not.
  2. Looked at the website a while ago, says the tumbler pics the rabbit up diferent to a lurcher and that you can get both lurchers and tumblers in the same litter!? Thing is how do tell the difference between the two at 8 weeks of age. Seems a load of codswollop to me.
  3. The sort of dogs i would go for, bushing and general rabbiting...nice.
  4. Ive had two good dogs off Hancock over the years and i do believe that most of his dogs in the right hands will make good rabbiting/mouching dogs, but i won't go back there again, more about principles than the quality of the finished product. Puppy farms are terrible places, its no life for a bitch that is constantly living in a confined area bringing up litter after litter and rarely getting to go outside never mind get exercised. My next puppy will be off somebody from the forum who has a good history of working dogs...makes sense really.
  5. What i find can be quite useful is to engage with the dog when it is coming close back to you with its retrieve, i sometimes move backwards or in another direction to the dog, sounds daft but it can encourage the dog to come to you with the retrieve...i tend to vary my training from dog to dog.
  6. Hi Alan, For some reason i can't email you, anyway thanks for the advice. As reagrds to the camera making any noise i can't say i have really notice, but then again i have only used it RAW mode a while ago. What i will do is try it in Raw made the next time i go out and will contact you if it does make any noise. atb Jonathan
  7. I know most terriers will do bushing and ratting and its all about entering etc....but what have you found to be your favourite?
  8. At the age of 5 my grandpas long haired mongeral would make make really ill, rashes, puffy itchy eyes, weezing the lot. My Grandads whippet never bothered me in the slightest. My aunties boxers also made me ill. My doctor told my parents i would never be able to get a dog. Anyway come 14yrs of age i got a whippet and i was fine, following this, two border collies and a jack russell terrier. I have had many dogs since and also worked in a dog grooming parlour. Yes i am allegic to dogs, but you do find that some breeds are worse than others. Its not just down to how short their hair is.
  9. Used to work in a grooming parlour and they used to clean the dogs teeth with Eucryl powder toothpaste. Another thing they used to do was have a spray bottle with a dlute mixture of TCP and water which was sprayed in the dogs mouth to freshen it up. The third thing they use to do was to use one of those medium sized watch flatblade screwdrivers to remove the plaque/tartar from the teeth, you would just flick downwards with the flat broad edge, not actually scrap, sounds a bit brutal but it worked very well. Obviously you have to exercise caution. I have seen massive pieces of plaque removed t
  10. All photos to date have been 7*5, when i cropped the photo it was done using the canon software that comes with the camera. It just sort of blows the pic up and a pre set size box comes down that you place over the part of the pic you want. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the advice, im still pretty green with digital cameras, but hopefully i will get there. cheers
  11. Right, i recently bought a canon EOS 500d and took some photos to be developed. When i looked at the photos it seems that they have been cropped smaller than the size that you see when you take the pic or look at the pic on the computer hence leaving bits missing that you don't want missing. Why is this? I thought i read that the size you see in the 500d window is the same as the prcessed pick...i must have got it wrong. Any comments welome.
  12. I haven't heard that many people talk about collie grews, (heard Whin mention them a few times), but the ones that have seem to talk quite highly of them. I think i have seen the odd one knocking about at chatsworth show over the years and i think david sleight had one in the obedience comp, but apart from that it all seems to be collie greyhounds. So is a collie grew classed as b.collie cross (racing) whippet/greyhound eg 50% border 25% whippet 25% greyhound or can just a non ped racing whippet be used that has a touch of greyhound in it? Also how do these compare to collie greyhound first
  13. If you look on the link i added theres load of information/pics and discussions about them.
  14. Have you tried looking on here: - Plummer terrier of great britain....there is a forum on the site with pics of plummer lurchers etc... http://www.plummerterrier.com/forums/index.php
  15. "even if she cant catch a rat in a tin she will be here till she dies "
  16. A nice site for working whippets http://blackwhippet.ERFujikolp;'/index.cgi The link doesn't seem to be working, anyway its the "working whippet forum".
  17. Judge people on how much game their dogs take!..thats me buggered then...only take a couple a season...have some great sport though. I personally have a lot of time for youngsters, but unfortunately a great percentage seem to be into more matcho game than just rabbits.
  18. Decided to go over to Wortley show Sheffield today, it was held over both Sat (racing) and Sunday (showing). Was a very surprised at the turnout considering the weather and being its 1st Show for many years. Anyway some pics....
  19. Only problem i had with mine was bladder stones...easily sorted. Apart from that good and heathly all his life.
  20. Lovely looking dog, something i may get in the future.
  21. My whippet was hard as nails, although i didn't like it when he got hold of a fox, the kill wasn't quick enough and that in my eyes my just aint right(and i cant see any other whippet been any different).
