Not being critical but if the jill is not eating then no matter what the method of feeding is used to give her mashed up food, she is not well enough to eat and this may be a sign of serious illness,i don't particularly like to visit the vet's myself with their rip off fees, but when i place a sentimental value on an animal that has served me well then i will swallow my pride, since i don't know what could be wrong then i can trust experts in their field once in a while, swampy i hope she recovers quickly, but the best advice i can give is if in doubt then take her to a vet, good luck, Higgins.

if Valuev has the constititution he should be able to take whats coming,if he gives one good shot to hayes then hayes will be out. This fight has all the hallmarks of a David and Goliath epic,Valuev may not be fast but if can take it he's still in,Hayes however must be able to take the punches, unless points dictate the outcome,i know Hayes may give the best performance but i'm not sure it will be enough to get the better of the giant, Higgins.

swampy, take her to vet pal, best to rule out anything serious and post on what's happened, Higgins.

i'm sure you've done the right thing for your circumstances and wish you all the best!I' m considering a similar thing as i value my time above any job unless it can financially support the lifestyle i seek.No matter what job you do you can never earn enough to free yourself, free time is a better quality of life, but money still has to be earned to support the free time,a compromise which is well balanced seems to be the answer for most people and as long as you are happy with your cimcunstances that's all that matters, Higgins

look out for second hand sets,it will be cheaper!

been interested in this idea for a while now and i think the best route is to design your own so as not to infringe any patent/copyright laws etc.You would need to study the plans for pulse tansmitters and then either get the help of an electronics enthusiast to build it.Back in the eighties i used to make my own locator collars from a kit supplied to me by the designer, but i still have no idea what the I.C chip was as he sealed it with resin,i'm fairly sure you could find out what chip could do the same job,but for me the real obstacle would be to build a receiver calibrated to receive t

i have a few 'greyhoundy' type ferrets,an albino, couple of silvers and a couple of polecat, the silvers and poleys have been line br while, all are jills, none are for sale,i have noticed jills are usually of the greyhound type, don't think i've ever seen a hob with this conformation, would this be a sex gene that is dominant and only shows in females perhaps? Higgins.

i've a shit terrier here but crossed with the right greyhound or lurcher this dog will make millions for you, i'm not into running dogs at the minute so would consider a straight swap,i'm keen to get into showing choccy patts,i'd already considered swapping the missus but the cooking's still good, Higgins.

A friend of mine had a Border terrier that had fits,it's common apparently in some Borders, seen it once in a patterdale which also had some Border in it's breeding, hope things turn out, Higgins.

the only serious contender at the moment is Ortovox, they have the technical knowledge but they are specialising in long range equipment, seriously this would be a good niche market for someone to produce ferret locators and i am suprised no one's taken advantage of it. Higgins.

inbreeding WILL exagerate the worst and best of each parent? not always, CAN exagerate the worst OR best of each parent a litter could throw cracking pups getting what you want, then these same pups could throw the worst nightmare of a litter How would you know if either parent had a reccessive faulty gene? or its partner did nt? Y.I.S Leeview Leeview the only practical method is to test the parents for recessive genes by inbreeding then rigorously culling anything that doesn't look healthy or perfect.A less intense method is to mate half brother to half sister,it's close but not as r

It's not the mother/son or sister/brother matings that are faulty, but the genes which are hidden that we should be aware of,as inbreeding will exxagerate the worst and the best of each parent. If there are no known faults within a line then one could safely inbreed,i think a good rule is not to inbreed regualrly but only to fix a certain characteristic or trait, then go back to line breeding, most people have focused on the outward appearance rather than paying attention to what genes are unseen and combined.A fault in either parent will be doubled up more so in inbreeding,on the other hand if th

i think your right, they have 'collared' the market, seriously though they are taking the piss because they have the monopoly on ferret locators.it's about time some competition got involved and offered them cheaper,it's no wonder everyone trying to get hold of the mk1/2's and they are getting harder to locate(no pun intended), Higgins.

The Working Border Terrier Club
higgins replied to PICK AND SHOVEL's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
johnny keeps avoiding this question i think Johhny will just get his head down and get the club rolling rather than let the doubters on here distract him, fair play and i hope his endeavour comes to fruition,is there a link available for the website yet? Higgins. -

The range is up in shaw, just off buckstones road. Check the website, as i've incorporated google maps so you can get directions. Everyone welcome. Darren hi Darren, good to see you got it off the ground, congratulations!Sorry i've not been much help, but i am still spreading word about your venture, just been too busy to keep contact with you.I have a few lads who will be interested in coming up there for the opening,so i will organise it for you, hopefully they will become full members and spread the news to other potential members.I wish you much success and i'm sure you'll provide a

thanks DD. If this means no more screws to tighten breaking the casing this must be an improvement!!! stevieman,i don't know what improvements have taken place as i don't have the bellman or ortovox system,i'm still using the deben kit(old habits dying very hard here)i'm all in favour of new technology though as long as it's affordable, and any kit is worth paying for if it gets your terrier out in time, atb, higgins.

i believe the new collar will work with the ortovox system, although i haven't seen the new collar i think they have redesigned it to be slimmer and replaced the batteries with a rechargeable type, anyone tried it yet?

thanks DD.
