intereting thread, but what are the different types i.e; pursuit(i imagine it is where the bird is to follow and catch their prey) Game(possibly bolting for the bird or any other game on land) Deterent(scaring off other predator birds perhaps?) i am least qualified to comment on the different types, but i would like to learn, Higgins.

try a small reward ad in local paper, you never know some old lady passing by the dog may have followed till she took it in,looks like your trying everything so far, only two possibilities left either the dog still wandering about on top or gone to ground, hope she turns up,as you say it's the not knowing what happened to her that gets you the most, fingers crossed for a good outcome, Higgins.

Hi mate, sorry to hear about losing the dog,but just wanted to say it's still a good idea to have a look where she was last seen for any earths or holes and take a mates terrier to run through, them.I know the terrier is only used for bushing but it could just be one of those times when they follow something to ground in the excitement they will be keen to catch it,hope you find the dog soon, Higgins. very much appreciated pal but my pal knows the land like back of his hand and even still the dog wont stay to ground she still had a collar on her, he's looked all over for her but with no luck

Some good replys here, but the decision still remains with you and what you think is best for your circumstances.I can only say when i have lost a dog it has been better for me to think forward and get myself another as i know i will soon be busy with the next dog, never leaving too much time to think of dogs lost, just a glimpse maybe then a fond rembering period and comparing the new puppy but not in the same way just noticing how unique every dog is and how their characters are different,in my case i just think of life without some sort of dog would be empty,i would always rather have the com

good post mate,i agree ther with ya fella, but all us decent terrier men all value ower dogs and we dont whant eny harm cuming to them, but i do go out to work my dogs and if i find one in a pile, uless its a mine shaft i will put my dog in, most of the dogs killed in piles have been 2 up or evern 3 up, if u look back in the fell and moor land year books,i work some of them bad piles that they say in ther, but if u read it carfully it sates that they put 2 or 3 dogs in , i dont work dogs paired up i work them single handerd,im not saying that with one dog in u carnt lose him, thats the chance

while i admire any terier that goes to ground, the rock dogs are the best, but i personally would steer weell away from working gallant tykes in rock piles.I have spent more times outside rock piles, sometimes 3 or 4 days compared to diggable ground, on average diggable ground is mostly 1 or 2 day affairs(there are extremes i know but i have never been on week long vigils for terriers)i'll only put a dog in a well known rock pile if i know dogs have been able to get back out unaided or the occasional deep diggable earth if there is a very good chance my dog can get himself out alive.I value my te

well said pal,i'm definiteley ordering one, anyone who has the slightest bit of interest in terrier work should get this book,i notice this man never needs to hype his books up,they have all been written straight and from experience and he nust know his terriers,he is obviously not breeding terriers for money or name (i've never yet heard of a Harcombe terrier) sounds like a proper terrier man to me, Higgins.

Good one for you young lad,i'm forver trying to get my 21 year old stepson to get out there and look for work, you are a good example of what can be done with trying and CV work,i hope you enjoy your job,and good hunting, atb, Higgins.

Hello and welcome Nik, Higgins.

had this problem with my terrier and the only thing i could do was to make it small enough to sleep in but not stand up in.Agree with Snoops regarding heatlamps,we are not getting winters severe enough to use them,so i'd reserve their use for injured dogs or rearing pups,at some point you have to let dogs sleep in cold, their own body heat should be able to cope most hard winters.

i've got a couple of these heaters but i don't think they have thermostats built in, only way to switch on -off at set periods would be to plug it into a manual or digital timer socket,if set for short 'on' periods before it gets too hot it would mimic a thermostat.

I'd guess that in an emergency such as if a big cat was attacking fluffy livestock or threatening a picnicking party of nuns you could shoot it with whatever gun you had to hand that would do the job and claim that you behaved in a reasonable manner in the circumstances. On the other hand I reckon that if you are using a rifle your certificate will be pretty specific about the conditions of use and it's dog-poo to doughnuts that very few FAC certificates specifically sanction the shooting of alien carnivores ! That leaves you with a shot-gun in your hand ,at close range and h
