  1. If all else fails you could always cut a deal with the local chinese restaurant...
  2. Cheers lads, that'll save me a few quid then. While were on the subject... do any of you fellas tie the 'kill' or slack into the head line or intermediate poles on a quickset? Never done this myself and wondered if it makes any difference in the running out time or catch effectiveness
  3. Thanks Crow... couldn't have put it better myself.....
  4. please someone put some on ebay and see if some schmuck buys it.
  5. Ahhh... but if two and two have synergies which, when combined, improve the efficiency or output greater than the individual two and two... they can equal five. Very bored actually
  6. This maybe be a totally bone question but please humour me. Only used traditional bmethod before and I am planning on adopting the quickset method on my 100 yrd net (when i eventually patch the thing up). Can i use the more traditional hazel for the rods and a simple clove hitch on the top and bottom lines as opposed to the grommit things? Thanks
  7. Thanks PAID, like you say is been a funny old season.
  8. its not that bad a looker ditch You may find that part of the conditions of you being granted the firearm are that you are accompanied by someone with 'experience'. Thats what i was told about my .243 anyway. Best of luck bud
  9. Hey guys n' gals, Just wondering is anyone knows the best time of year to tap birch trees? I thought it was around March time but some of the trees have already started budding down here .
  10. That will work fine on an open pond, but he says he has a heavey duty cover over it, the herons will just land streight on top of it. A heron cant land on the water and has to wade in so the mono is placed around to stop it wading in. Cheers bob Thats a very good point... didn't think a heron would try that. In which case i agree that it would be a crying shame if it flew into some lead... by accident... poor wee thing.
  11. Used to have this problem at our old place. Just stuck some garden canes round the pond with some fishing mono round it and sorted the problem right away.
  12. Sounds like its going to be a good series. Changing the name of the cafe and getting pretty damn creative with how they phrase the dishes on the menue may help sell it to the punters and general public a bit more! 'Fly blown badger' doesn't really conjour up a gastronomic delight.
  13. Drop netting is a method of setting a net in such a way that it can be lowered after the rabbits ventured out into the field. I'm sure there are several different methods of deploying it but i basically rope the net up on the poles with fishing line and have a slip knot at one end that can be released from a tug at the other. I've only done it a few times (and once by myself) in situations where the shape of the field makes if difficult to get to the setting point without spooking everything first (ie a bottle shaped field where it can be released from the other side of the hedge before
  14. "it doesnt matter how it look's, as long as it catches rabbit's." Too true bud. Thing is i take pride in maintaining my equipment to keep it functional and in top nic. Just can't see it running or drawing quite the same thats all.
  15. Only one way to find out mate !! i might go one of these nites Can i advise against drop netting (unless you stay within sight of it... you never know what fuckers are lurking in the bushes)
  16. Nice stuff bud, Are thise teal you're holding?
  17. Normally you have to prick the skin to help release the fat and roast them. As you have skinned them you will have to put something over the breat to prevent it drying out. Lattice a load of streaky bacon over the breat and legs and drizzel some honey over it (or spoon a couple of lumps into the pan if its not runny honey. Stick a nob of butter and some lard / olive oil in as well to baste it with. Cut a large orange in half and stick in the cavity with some herbs and roast it. Eat it pink.
  18. Still getting a egg a day out of each of my hens ... they normally wane off at this time of year.
  19. Yep, traditional set. I had a closer look in the shed last night as i had nothing better to do and the b*****d really went to work on one section once i'd untagnled the birds nest. Its nylon but i've got some hemp in the shed that i'll patch it up with that; It will look shit but there you go.
  20. Oh yeah... assuming i can be bothered to pull all shit out, untangle it and patch the thing back together will whipping some new nylon onto the old bottom line affect the net drawing round in the future or should i just replace the bottom line altogether? sob
  21. Arn't some people arseholes! Although i've done a bit of this before it has been mainly with a few of us back in Sussex doing garden centers and setting in the dead ground during the harvest combining. Looked pretty handy so picked up a 25yrd and a 100yrd 6oz (mainly for ferreting)... used the 25'r loads a as a stop net but never really had the opportunity to use the 100 when by myself. Having read all the threads on here about them i went an got myself all excited about a patch i have in Dorset (bit of a treck from Bristol but hey) and thought i would blow the dust of it
  22. Out in the fresh air, exercise, father / son bonding, organic wild food... better than being infront of the TV or hanging around outside a 7-11 or Spar. Birthdays will be cheeper as well.. it will be 'can i have my own spade' instead of i want a PS3 or Wii.
  23. Got a SAK on mine and itkes the edge off the report
  24. Must be breeding with them wild boar i hear so much about
