Brrrrr... cold, crispy but productive.
Yokel Matt replied to Yokel Matt's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Its not like they've had it easy the last year either mate - these were no tiddlers either and had some had at least a couple of seasons under their belt judging by some of the war wounds. They're on the pills alright mate - 40gr ballistic ones Wouldn't mind seeing a vixen next to them to get a better perspective... they've been noticeably absent recently. Warrener who? Glad you got a dig mate - hope you got some mud on your knees and dirtied you hands a little this time if you're planning on putting a post up, the 100% terrier men will see right through you otherwise -
The night didn't look too promising on Tuesday being bright, cold and clear... and cold... by southern standards anyway There was a bit of a breeze that added to or more deducted from the temperature and the ground was crispy underfoot with the light surface water amongst the pasture in some areas shattering loudly when you trod on it. FD had left the rimfire behind so I was lugging the iron in the form of my heavy .223 in search of troublesome fox's. Suprisingly there was no shortage of candidates with us seeing four at the first farm. Sadly the breeze was never quite on our side despite FD

.22lr accuracy - paper punching testing
Yokel Matt replied to riflehunter583's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Even with a dedicated target rifle, no wind, a wheel barrow of ammunition (target or eley subs) I reccon i could spend an entire weekend lobbing rounds 180 yards and not get a sub 2" group. As for shooting at rabbits / crow etc - be them 'pesky critters' or not I don't think its a good idea at those ranges. I'm also inclined to add my two-pence worth on CCI Velocitors - absolute unreliable crap imo. Having said that fair play for doing some research. -
That looks lovely mate - better to get all the box's ticked then you can relax in that 5* Penthouse highseat and concentrate on the matter in hand. All the best mate

I think if we did an all-nighter I'd need to up the strength of that coffee FD, maybe do some training by dragging a tractor tire on a rope Looking more and more like that miss the other day was pilot error mate Bit of a bad habbit of mine on your ground mate Too right mate - nice to finish off with that long shot as well. Probably my longest shot off sticks that which I'm sure isn't a big deal for a lot of shooters and not something i'd normally attempt at that range but if looked & feld good and my confidence was up. Thats half the battle won Seems to be

Popped out with Foxdropper last night to a place that’s a bit further afield than his other spots but holds limitless possibilities covering a large area and interspersed with blocks of mixed mature woodland , pasture and arable. It’s got DEER written all over it but they haven’t been seen in the numbers that used to frequent the place apparently with only the odd few pottering about so it was also an opportunity to gauge numbers for the fast approaching buck season and assist with a menace of another persuasion. Word on the street was that the rabbit and hare populations were in no such s

First trip out since the crash........

Now now FD, come on - we all have days when we blink and say 'what the feck happened there then'... -
First trip out since the crash........

Not sure what happened with that fox mate don't think my mumbled excuses about cleaning the barrel were that good either Great to be out with you again though mate despite showing myself up again Don't you worry about that leg mate - its the first steps back to recovery and you can't expect to be slot back into it, especially with all the hills round there. It'll all come back together soon enough to be sure and you'll be back to throwing yourself over gates and snagging your nuts on barbed wire fences in no time............ Speak soon mate -
Not too pleased is one way of putting it... a proper telling off Just re-read the topic as well - apologies for the spelling and other errors. It had been a long day

Sure I saw something on YouTube (FieldSports Channel) that someguy had a 33 pounder Nice going Chimp - thats a good shot.

Good stuff mate - try and restrain yourself when it comes to add-ons and bits and go at it slowly. Its very easy to think a lot of gadgets are suddenly 'must have' where as in reality they get in the way and end up being consigned to a draw. Having said that I'm a fine one to talk A decent bipod and some sticks are worth investing in. If you like the HMR you'll love the .223

I had a phone call Sunday afternoon from the farmers son asking if I'd mind being the counter-signatory on his shotgun renewal and could he sent it over. I'd had to get it back pretty snappy as the expiry date was Febuary. No problem says I why don't I pop over now and do it This was I could could kill two birds with one stone - the first would be to escape from the trouble I was in with good wife. The second was to dispose of a rather smelly, bloated critter... which happened to be the reason for me being in trouble with her indoors. I hasten to add its all entirely Foxdroppers fault... whic

Do you mean Lederhosen?... leather shorts, wastecoat and a hat with a Phesant feather in it or Riding Chaps, leather tassles and thong... thong optional Joking aside there are some on this forum (not necessarily in this section) who think that shell bottoms and trainers are more than adequate.

From previous experience I would advise against dealing with Net Loft if they have re-started.

Sure it wasn't a Feral Pig?

Nice going mate - change in tactics worked a treat. Lovely coat and brush on her. Good idea on the cats toy, like a quiver critter but a tenth of the price... Bet your cat wasn't too keen on playing with the toy afterwards though! I waited up last night for a Vixen that had got very lamp shy. I'd put the bait down and was walking up the hill to my lay up point when I looked round to see her trotting right past it Froze my nuts off waiting for her to come back...Got her later on though Nice going Matt

A few fence snares out, hares and rabbits
Yokel Matt replied to MR TEA POT's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I agree - if you want to clean up you can't get more efficient than a .22 and a lamp with a red filter As for a feeling of achievement I think finding a hare in a snare you've made yourself, set deliberately on a beat you've identified at the exact height relative to the grass is pretty damn satisfying. Nice one Mr T. Wish I had the knack with the wires but then you're learnt from the masters. Lucky bugger. -
finally got my day in court coming up
Yokel Matt replied to coney clucky's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If it wasn't you (this time ) then you've been hard done by and I hope it gets quashed. Come on though fellas - you all know the score whether you believe its your god given right or not. Poaching has consequences (getting caught does anyway) so man up and deal with it. -
Get out there mate! No harm in going and getting a few rounds down on paper, get yourself happy with the trigger break and scope set-up etc but you'll probably find your grouping isn't all that great unless you can find a nice sheltered spot. Having said that if you don't go you won't know. Fraustrating as it is you'd probably be best having a good hour or so in calm weather to get enough confidance for the highly acclaimed 200 meter head shot this little pills are lauded for. Enjoy Matt

Topics with '.22LR HV rounds' tend to closely followed by the words 'CRAP' and 'GROUPING'... throw the brand 'CCI' into the mixer and this multiplies ten fold. I've got 2 box's of CCI stingers in the safe, had them 5years... 95 rounds left. I find all brands as bad as each other. The copper washing on a lot of the HV stuff flakes off from the muzzel and welds itself to the moderator washers / baffles sticking like shit to a blanket. Don't fall for the marketing - get a centerfire for fox's and do them properly or use standard .22 subs, coax them in close and put the round confidently where you

Just re-visited this thread and struggle to understand the mentality behind some of the negative comments. A personal total 100+ is good by anyones standards. I've had 34 this year, 24 of those courtesy of Foxdropper and god knows if he was behind the scope instead of me with some of the silly misses I've had this year his number would have been a lot more. If it wasn't for members who actually contribute to the site by posting accounts of trips out, setting an example to novices, opening up areas for debate & providing some practical examples amongst all the blind 'advice' the whole site

Christ! A lot of the stuff posted on here make pretty embassassing reading. I never knew there were so many 'wild' boar experts in the 'UK'. I'm almost squirming at what our American, Ozzy and Kiwi friends must be thinking... all the dvd discussion and the 'he said, she said his mates best friends brother did whatever'. Where's Ned Makim when you need him to bang your heads together. Edited to say nice pic stabs - you still over there?

Cheers for the comments guys It was a great day thats for sure - to be honest if we'd stayed for dusk we may have added another one but an off the lead dog from a nearby footpath caused a bit of comotion when it paid a little too much attentin to one of FD's Does. Imagine a golden retriever with a red head

Would say 'good contribution to the thread mate' but i'd be talking as much shit as you are. Also i feel duty bound to pull you up on a few small technicalities ol' sausage.. the pic clearly shows this was taken in daylight, FD sees himself more of a Indian than a cowboy (like the one in the Village people) and is normally having cookies and warm milk by midnight.
