Factory stuff mate - Norma 40 grain Ballistic Tips. Its a case of get what you can when you can down here. Haven't tried the 50/55 grain ones but i've shot these with a decent wind blowing and not noticed any significant drift, not enough to miss a fox anyway. They do terrible damage if they hit a bit of bone.

Wildcat Predator rear bush
Yokel Matt replied to cyclonebri1's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The P8 is well made and sturdy to be sure but does weigh significantly more than the new light weight A-TEC / ASE brand mods. This isn't a big deal if the barrel length is reasonable but with a flagpole its does cause balance problems. I've just gone though a mod change myself and would say the P8 is slightly quieter that my new A-TEC so there are pros & cons. The clearance distances you're looking at here are negligible mate and I wouldn't bother personally. -
Wildcat Predator rear bush
Yokel Matt replied to cyclonebri1's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Do you have a pic of the clearance? As long as there is space between the bush and the barrel you'll be good. My experience of Wildcat with reaming out bush's for P8's is they pull your chain and take forever. The bush is largely redundant on a P8 anyway. I swap my P8 between my sporter barrelled 6.5x55 and oversized .223 ad its fine. -
Yes mate - great bit of kit.. I love it.

I hope the pigeon was on the ground not in a tree. Remember your fieldcraft and get within range, dont be tempted by long shots. Practice on targets and make sure you're confident in both yours and your rifles abilities and take your time - rushing gets you nowhere. What used to be an hours summer stroll - VHD has all but wiped them out now on my ground. No rabbits about so these had to do...

He got the special treatment mate - the Mrs said I was only 'allowed' to have one head on the wall: I'm working on her to get the rest up - current residence is the outside loo!

The bush had to be resized by the gunsmith to sleve over the barrel by the smallest fraction which was well within the tollerence on the instructions / warranty. Just looks like I was unlucky and had a Friday Afternoon model.

After a brown trouser moment with a malfunctioning moderator earlier in the day I decided to jump back on the horse and have a look round with the lamp later that evening. Fields were soaking and churned to feck by the cattle removed some weeks earlier but in the chicken field decided to try a call. Just about to back it in when some eyes appeared and charged up the hill towards me. I stopped it with a bark put the dot on its chest and 'CLICK!' - what a donut, forgot to chamber a round Charlie didn't like that one bit and skitted towards the hedge, I squeeked as loud as I could to muffle

Just picked up my new .223 and decided to treat myself to a new mod while I was at it - the reasoning being its got a 25" barrel and is way off balance with the weight of the P8 on the end. Went to zero it and the first shot took me by suprise - a LOT louder than the P8.... second shot made me jump as something fizzed past my head! Riccochet maybe? surely not as the target is against a back of soft earth. Third shot was louder still and I realised where the problem was as gasses poured out the bush of the mod. Removed the mod and a petal of metal the width of the barrel fluting had peeled

what scope for cz 452 .22lr
Yokel Matt replied to bullit666's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
believe me theres scopes and then theres scopes like most things in life you only get what you pay for although a leuplod 3-9 x 40 vx-1 isnt to expensive secondhand and will last a lifetime Amen to that - I've got two Zeiss scopes now on my centerfire rifles which cost a packet but are by far the best i've ever looked through (6-24x56 IL T Victory Diavari & 3-12x56 Victory HT). A second hand quality scope in reasonable condition will often do you more favours than a lower qulaity new scope - try www.guntrader.co.uk or look out in the classifieds section. -
Bit off topic but my remi 700 is in a Hogue and I quite like it. Can't say I've had any problems or noticed anything different off a bipod - 40 grain Norrma factory ammo for me..

what scope for cz 452 .22lr
Yokel Matt replied to bullit666's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Spending time online shopping for a scope is one thing but for gods sake make sure you have a look through them first and find one YOU like. I've had loads of scopes through making the same mistake and its cost a fortune - in the end i looked through a mates and fell in love with it and haven't looked back since. In the same vain a scope I love and rave about other hate so make your own decision. If I could turn back time i'd have kept my second hand meopta 7x50 that cost me £175. Fine ret, forgiving eye relief, pin sharp and clear and 7xmag more than enough for rabbits out to yards. This -

I think its sensible to postpone it if the chances of getting the right result are low at the moment. With all the other micro / macro trouble at the moment the bill wouldn't get the attention it deserves and would be pushed to one side as a 'toff-tory hobby when more important matters are at hand' as opposed to a traditional rural pursuit wrongly banned by a bunch of Labour tossers trying to smoke screen their own poor policy decisions. If it gets a knock back again its curtains - Like the Badger Cull... bide your time.

I haven't been on the site for a while - this actually goes back to the fallow rut when Foxdropper & I went to have a look out with Steve, a mate of 'The Stalker', who is fortunate enough to have some truely superb Fallow ground down in Devon. FD scored a nice buck which he put up here http://www.thehuntin...ip/page__st__15 but, as its my first fallow, thought id do it justice as well... all-be-it a bit later. Leaving FD at the highseat after he won the coin toss Steve and I got in the truck and went to scope out a few likely spots before deciding where to lay up later. Steve is lucky

I had a CZ550 with a Monte Carlo stock in 6.5x55. Found it very accurate but the only problem was the rather basic bedding system used - a simple metal plate between the bedding block and the stock bed. Floorplate magazines arn't my thing personally either. It got a soaking one day and after drying it out found it rattled around a bit in the stock so had to take the whole thing apart and trim the bedding screw to tighten everything up. I found the two stage safety a bit frustrating but and my own inexperience with it cost me two reasonable bucks. This rifle in a composite stock would be a true

3 MONTH WAIT ON CENTER FIRE :(
Yokel Matt replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Nearly 3 months and still waiting for my 1 for 1 variation - Not acceptable... no other service, other than our civil service, could possibly be so inefficient. I believe there have been cuts in licensing department of my local area but the delay is still taking the piss. Almost as if someone is trying to make a point. What they don't seem to realise is this knocks onto gunshops and other related businesses, tying up stock only held on deposit etc. Its all bollocks and i'm properly pissed about it. -
+1, l got the BASC involved when they started going through my black bags and stopped taking them if they found anything, if you aint producing the waste as a rusult of a buisness they can not refuse to take it, in the end they just asked me to double bag it and even supply me the bags, l do freeze it during the summer months as well. Especially with two-weekly connections - whoa!

Got to be honest John but i don't rate the Butler creek sling - i've got one one my stalking rifle and it gets away with it because its a sporter barrel and relatively light but I had to try something else for my foxing rifle. Remi 700 SPS Varmint, P8 mod & Zeiss 6-2456... haven't weighed it but sure i'm getting shorter! I haven't thought of a double strap sling but i put a cobra vented rubber sling on it and its a vast improvement. Had to change the stud attachment from the screw type wide job they use as it hampered the bipod entension but its very compfy and stops me winging... more or

use your neighbours bin then
-
Too right - sod digging a 1 meter hole every time you have a deer to skin, especially when the grounds frozen in winter. I once put a skin, forelegs & head in the small compostable bin with the rest of the rubbish and the bin men took it. A thick black sack / rubble bag and a zip tie and think no more about it -thats what you pay your council tax for.

She's a beauty mate - Bet you can't wait to get her cranking. Sorry for not saying a thank you earlier, what bad manners I'll update this shortly when i get the pics through
-
It was bloody brilliant mate - still waiting for the pics but can remember it as clear as day. Its lovely ground, undulating forrested hills with paddocks and stretches of pasture which the fallow obviously love. After we left FD in the seat we went to scope out several different areas which were spread out accross the valley. It was decided that one particular spot held the best chance since the sweet spot had been bagged by FD in a coin toss. The rain had turned into a think drizzly mist as I made my way to the spot and it wasn't long before I saw a group of dark shapes through the gloom. On

Article online in the Daily Mail
Yokel Matt replied to CountryBumpkin1986's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Fair play to the Daily Mail - nice to see an article on the subject in mainstream press with such a positive spin. Bet the old boy has a few stories. -
If you don't go you don't know mate.
