  1. Nice going john – I’ll bet the game dealer has a smile on his face as well
  2. Strewth - he's a goodun. I'd leave all that crap on if you're going to get him measured and take it off and stain it after. What a good start to the season - well done!
  3. Here’s a compromise… you can watch me shoot them
  4. They are pretty soft mate – I recon a 12ft lb airgun would put one on the floor... a .222 / .223 throwing 50 grainers would be ideal although the minimum the plod would officially ‘approve’ would probably be a .243. If you’re going to an estate I’d just check with them encase there are any ‘house rules’. Good luck mate – Got to say I was surprised how much I enjoyed stalking goats - A mate on the site and I are getting some big old billies scored in the next couple of weeks that we took in Ayr in January. Take a peg for your nose though
  5. Only the easy ones mate... if i'd have missed one that close (another one ) he'd have sent me home to bed and all Cheers Matt - .223 mate
  6. Had a last-minute trip accross to Wiltshire last night to see Foxdropper and have a look for a fox... to drop. I was meeting FD at the ground which was almost too much for my sense of direction and was running late. He was already there trying to put his lad on a fox and my inability to follow directions meant that I buggered up two opportunities by ringing his mobile just as he was getting a bead on a fox. The fox's on this patch are seriously switched on and don't hang around so despite our best efforts over the next hour or so they were having none of it. We dropped him off as it was a
  7. Great going mate Nice obliging group - that’ll be him addicted!... now he’ll be popping round to go out shooting not to see your daughter!
  8. Where in NZ are you mate? I spent an amazing 7 months there a few years back. A lot of hares and rabbits about - sadly many areas used poison (10/80?) air drops or something like that which made you think twice before putting a few wires out to bag one for the pot in the camper van! There is one called the foxcall.co.uk which, if blown without biting down on the reed too hard, sounds just like a hare (dying).. but to attract any varmint (distressed rabbit) call could do the trick - some come... others flee. Google 'kenzie the poacher'... I've heard he used to call them using his hand All
  9. Top notch mate - a few messy heads there
  10. Cheers lads. Martin - hope that thumb is getting better mate... it must be about time for me to invite myself round to scare a few of your fox's
  11. Haven't had much free time at home with little'un taking up every spare minute so here's a few fox's that have accumulated since the new year. Not much of a story with this first one - FD and I had just arrived at the ground, climbed over the gate and squelched through calf deep cow shit to see a pair of eyes of a fox sat calmly in the hedgerow 50 meters away. The reason he looks so 'clean' is that the 6.5x55 bullet knocked him out after skimming his head. He was finished off point blank but you couldn't tell from the pic This next cheeky chap was caught red handed running accro
  12. I've got a Remi 700 SPS and had the barrel cut to 20" with a P8. You will notice the bark a lot more with the shorter barrel although I have to agree the P8 is a great bit of kit. Haven't cleaned the mod for a while... cheers for the reminder. Annoying things about the remi - the floorplate magazine... in the dark... ball-ache! The rest is perfectly functional and inherently accurate.
  13. Appraise the situation first – don’t assume there is one ‘best’ way. If the deer is down and fading fast then either cutting its throat of ‘sticking’ it may be the best option... If its a lively roebuck with clean antlers you’re probably best to shoot it again unless you fancy a trip to a&e on your way home :black eye: I’ve been told, once you’ve administered the coup de grace, that laying your jacket over their head to darken things so they can’t see you may ‘relax’ them in their final moments but i’m not so sure – no doubt it would be thick with your scent but
  14. Thought I'd bump this up again as this scope is on my wish list. Got a mate who has one and, basically, I wish i'd never looked through it - now I simply must have one
  15. Cheers for coming up trumps on the location FH - bloody brilliant. The scenary alone and the stalk up the 'hill' was fantastic but to be rewarded with those bigguns rounded it off a treat. God knows how bad they'd smell in the summer and they properly honked... still trying to get the smell out my kitchen after boiling the heads out  I'll get some pics up myself shortly - cheers to FD for organising a fantastic stalking trip and for the bloody good laugh... I'm relieved to say he didn't try it on once but I kept my door locked just in case It also has to be said that FD had the op
  16. Well done mate - sod the pics of deer though.... i want to see this Larder!
  17. Cheers gents - just need to put them up somewhere out of reach of the Mrs now
  18. You... my friend... have access to a sickening amount of quality stalking Fair play to you on another successful outing.
  19. The dealers should still take them - the liver will be condemmed though
  20. My aim at the start of the last Roe Buck season was to get out a bit more and hopefully grass my first six pointer. Getting a medal class buck was not only NOT part of the plan but didn't even register as a remote possibility. I know its not what its all about but it's been one hell of a season Boiled, scraped, peroxided, dried and finally measured.
  21. Getting your eye in for January I see... hope you don't run out of ammo before then
  22. Fair play you two - have to meet up soon for a chin wag and soon
