  1. That is an unusual head - love the malforms... worthy of the wall irrespective of the size. Got this little fella the other day - almost palmate with the baldes almost sharp enough to gralloch with. christ - these pics are a bit large... sorry about that.
  2. Two stonkers there mate - very nice going. Appears to be a very productive bit of ground you have there... not too many curtain twitchers I hope.
  3. Cheers chaps - nice bit of young venison for the freezer for the landowner. Must be something about the woodland as they were COVERED in castor bean and those nasty deer ticks that can give you Lyme Disease Counted 26 on my arm after loading them in the car on Sunday and removed 5 attached to me. By the way Martin... I think that old boy may be a Medal after all Dreaming of Sika mate... you should have seen the size of the stag skylined on the track on the way to the patch
  4. Its been a fair while since I was last able to visit a small patch of permission in Dorset and I've been looking forward to it for ages. I was lait arriving on Friday as I got stuck behind one of those annoying people who insists on driving at 55mph so literally dropped my stuff off at my relatives where I was staying and set out arriving for the last hour of light. Several sika hinds with yound at foot were seen on the way to the highseat with the inevitable shrill warning cries been shouted before hightailing it away. Up in the seat I let nature settle for a few minutes before starting calli
  5. Awsome account Dave - like the sequence pics as well. Congratulations on your 1st Roe Buck and what a nice way to take it charging into a call
  6. Spot on mate - can't honestly say I've had any luck with the buttolo this season... Poor me Another nice 6 for you mate and a good body weight from what you said... about time you carried one yourself
  7. 'Trophy Hunter' at you service I'd chuck it Deker... I've made sticks out of bigger ones than that Only kidding - he's a cracker - That head certainly looks to tick all the box's for a good medal in terms of established coronets, colour, pearling, uniformity and some exceptional fecking front tines Wouldn't be suprised if he'd killed rutting with those. Hopefully you've cleaned it as a full skull and not nose cut it or anything silly like that just yet - I'd say you were at the very least a high silver with that one but let us know the weight. I wouldn't bother with the BASC as it's not a
  8. I was beginning to think it was a little toooo quiet on here - glad someone is getting some . Well done lads.
  9. In hard antler mate he'd have either been like scotch mist or skylined no doubt! A beauty there mate. A Yankee bow hunter put a post up on here a while back of a Whitetail deer he took in velvet and once it had been peeled and bleached the trophy looked great. Nice going... looking forward to reading about the next one.
  10. Had fox's come to the roe call and deer, rabbits, hares and owles to a fox call. Odd really... guess we don't make the rules after all
  11. I like the way they are in ascending size order mate - very artistic. Some good shooting there mate - I'm sure if a fifth had presented a shot you would have made a better job than i did
  12. Cheers all - The Mag conversion is a Remi 700 drop in kit from South Yorkshire Shooting which uses an Accuracy International 10 shot box. This one is in .223 but they do a variety. The neoprene cover seems to stop the 'sing' after the shot and also helps prevent the ting-ting sound when you brush against undergrowth or branches Thats the field where you had that buck Martin - good luck out tonight mate.
  13. I phoned up the farmer at 7.30 yesterday evening to say plans had changed I wouldn't be visiting after all... muffled silence... When could I next get round?... well not for a couple of weeks as i'm off on holiday - why... "f*****g fox's had had 7 of my f*****g chickens last night etc, etc" The flock is less than 200 anyway and each one lost unnecessarily is felt so wanting to show willing I got i the car and 40 minutes later arrived to beaming smiles of appreciation The hens are kept in the field right next to the farm house and were taken before the evening rounds so I looked round for
  14. Don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this... three shot group at 100 meters - 1st shot slightly left, next two through the same hole. No change in zero from the Federal.
  15. Brilliant - cheers for the replies. I guess the proof will be in the puddng so to speak so I'll get a few down on paper and then maybe stock up whilst he's still got some unless I can get hold of some PPU - they seem the way forward at that price! Its normally a case of take what you can get with this caliber round these parts.
  16. Just picked up some of this stuff for my deer rifle. I went to get some heads and powder to finally start re-loading but they only had FMJ and at £21 a box thought it worth a go. Its half the price of Norma and Federal.. just wondering if i'm paying for half the peformance Anyone have any experience with this?
  17. Cheers all - It has been too long Martin mate... catch up soon
  18. Good to get another fox off that patch FD - no prizes for guessing what his intentions were. Nice buck there RC and good, confidant shot off sticks. He was possibly being seen off by another buck and let his guard down...won't be doing that again
  19. Cheers all - Haven't had 4 fox's since I was out with you Martin although it should have been a lot more if i remember correctly As for the warriors John I imagine they're all off school and at the arcade or camping with the mum and dad at the moment
  20. Out with the .22 the other day to bag a few rabbits as I was getting pestered for some by the local butcher. Great summers evening and there were lots of tiddlers about which I was trying not to shoot until they get a little bigger... easier said than done when they are a way off in the grass. I was walking to pick up a decent size rabbit and was just a few paces away from stooping down to pick it up when I noticed this swarm of bees in the hedge directly above it. A swarm of bee's in June is worth a silver spoon and all that so I phoned the Farmer who got in touch with a bee keeping
  21. Been absent for a while with tinterweb issues but thought I'd share this all the same. FoxDropper and I popped out for one evening after work a buck at a spot he'd seen two cull animals a week or so previous. As seems to be the case at this time of year plans are hatched and assumptions made only to turn up and find the fields cut and re-think is in order. Fortunately thick Wiltshire hedge's and a couple of untouched fringe fields made a look around well worth a go. It didn't take long to spot a deer which FD pointed out tucked into the long grass verge under the hedge on the other side of
  22. Who... Foxdropper  Last buck I carried for him had me covered in keds  Good going fellas - brilliant
  23. Cheers all - almost a shame there wasn't more of a tale skill, fieldcraft and of man versus beast as he is a nice buck who basically fell to a messer who was more suprised to see him than he was He's cleaned already and drying ready for the wall although I have to say FD it's really not fair as these deer of yours are costing me a fortune in CIC certificates and medals
