  1. I don't think you go too far wrong with any zeiss mate.
  2. I had mine cut down from 25" to 18" and while it may have cost me a few hundred fps it's well worth it handling wise and still shoots in near enough a straight line out to 200m.
  3. I agree - get the job done first then announce the results... Stressing how it was a fraction of the cost of the first cull as policing all the unhinged anties wasn't necessary.
  4. Nice buck mate - nice rifle too. I've got a feeling the gunsmith may have to remove the end sight to get it on the lathe mate but may be mistaken. Practice makes perfect on the trophy prep, a pressure washer makes a world of difference for getting the muck out the head... Just watch out for the blow back spray!
  5. Unfortunately I've found a little goes a long way with these things - the same with stuffed marrow... It almost be a relief when the courgette plants come up!
  6. They are both nice - the top one is massive!
  7. Just needs an electric hook up for the kettle and a nice deep arm chair and it do the job nicely! - beats a £99 mail order one any day! Good job.
  8. Meopta 7x50 - the glass is worth twice the cost
  9. I've shot them through the chest with a .22LR and some still fly off. The only thing you can apply rules to is ballistic jelly, living creatures at different angles / states of alert etc will always try to find a way to make themselves an exception to the norm.
  10. Your .22 will be enough for the odd fox if you're in the right place at the right time which should be easily enough on a small permission. Failing that if you're local you could cage trap them and dispatch with the .22. If you want a centre fire though it sounds like you'll have a good enough reason why.
  11. I'm not a fan of the 10/22. The magazines do my head in with rounds not cycling properly. Plenty of people say they are easy to clean but they've obviously got more patience that I have!
  12. That's a cracking buck, I'll bet the client is a very happy chap!
  13. I've not seen any this year and can't remember ever seeing a figure 8 let alone a triple. Come to think of it Ive seen very little in the way of territory thrashing / scraping from the bucks this either despite there being plenty about.
  14. Must be the first time you've had more ticks than me - I only had six attached! That stags head has come up nice mate, I'll get a pic up here when it's finished.
  15. Thanks gents - As far as day trips go I think I'll be hard pressed to better that one.
  16. A visit down to Dorset had been long overdue and hints dropped in conversation with the landowner about numbers of deer and freezer space hadnt gone unnoticed. Tim and I got to the ground at 4:30 and decided to stalk the upper part of the ground first as, whilst this had been the plan on previous visits we had always seen a sika on the lower fields and got distracted. The weather was superb, a bit of a chill but with the promise of a nice day in the air which was calm and still. Its a very undulating, hilly area so it didnt take long to warm up and the pulses quickened further when we
  17. Proper job there mate - totally agree about the roe calling, certainly does the trick. Glad you got a bit of practice in before our session yesterday on the stags, must have steadied your aim some!!! I'll get something up about that later when I've caught up on some kip.
  18. If I was getting over a gate or there was rough, uneven ground I imagine that retaining strap would be quite useful to help keep the rifle on your shoulder. Conversely i can see it getting tangled up with the binoculars and the little extra time / movement to release it could cost you in some situations. Being able to clip it to a tree looks to me like a bit of an afterthought gimmick and knowing my luck would lose me more shots than it assisted but now I'm just being awkward. Looks well made though - no doubt it'll be a raving success and for all my cynicism I'll probably end up buying o
  19. I'll do you a favour and come over to stalk those 5 which don't make the grade then mate! I haven't tried calling this year yet - got a few places I'm keen to try though. You got away with your wasp experience mate- I put a spade through a wasp nest when I was ferreting a golf course and I got stung a hell if a lot more than 3 times! First bury as well.... Made it feel like a very long day!
  20. No game shoot but don't worry mate - it was blanked off against game birds etc and you're dead right those two in the pic are mk6's. They've been in the shed for the last few years as I generally only use the 4's nowadays. It's been a busy season on this farm so far. It the previous stalkers cull records had it at around 30 a year before he jacked it in, at this rate I can well believe it.
  21. Looking at the pic I can see what you mean mate but I kept it basic. There was that much chaff splashed all over the ground I thought a handful of corn Hansell and Grettal style onto the plate would speed things up.
  22. Just a tunnel with some mixed corn from the chickens feed on the plate mate. The fenns were set in a tunnel.
