  1. Why the hang-up on Fieldcraft? Looked more like pest control in action... In the rain. Get them any way you can so good job if you ask me, not so sure about the music though.
  2. FairPlay to them they paid attention and really got into the spirit of it, even took turns carrying it back in the roesack. If I thought they'd be too much of a liability I wouldn't have bothered as I can imagine you can be really unlucky with some people but I think we all found a bit more respect for each other afterwards on this occasion.
  3. What do you expect when you have a bunch of non-shooting civil servant box tickers making decisions and policies. Too much box ticking / arse covering, not enough common sense. Ammo usage counts for very little.
  4. Its been so long since I last had gurnard I'd forgotten about the bloody spines.... was quickly reminded though!
  5. Quite a few of the lads I work with really don't have a clue, or much care, about much more than football, chasing skirt or getting pissed up. I've got no qualms discussing my hobbies (or sadly defending them as is often the case) and often get puzzled looks or raised eyebrows, not that I particularly care but at the end of the day its all about education so I thought i'd fly the flag show a couple of them what its all about. After explaining what 'appropriate' clothing was it was funny to see one of them turn up in football shorts, some black waterproof trousers and some bright blue train
  6. I helped my new neighbour out the other day and he unexpectedly popped over with a few fish he caught today as a thank you.... A there I was wondering what I was going to eat on this nice, mild, sunny evening. Gurnard, Mackerel & Pollack fresh off the beach hot smoked over hickory - that'll do nicely.
  7. Finally seeing the summer coat as well by the look of things as well. Another nice one for George, hope he carried that one further than he did the last!
  8. The gambrel is standard A point (roe size) from online somewhere, about a tenner each I think. The chiller is a minicella monobloc which I picked up second hand recently, it's 1m x1m square and ideal for my needs. The larders been a project which has dragged on for a while now but hopefully will be finished this year.... Said that before though.. You're right Terry - I reckon the lamb did know the curtain was about to fall but it was very laid back about the whole thing. I never got to do haggis in the end as the skins arrived too late. I'll try with the pluck out my next neck shot de
  9. Make sure you check what that minimum parallax will be on that mate. Most are only free on parallax at 50m+ so you may not me able to get up to the top end of the mag power at the shorter ranges. That said it's not like you'll need it the greater mag that close but on a Rimfire you might not be able to use the mag you way you might want to.
  10. The confidence of youth! He was very cool about it but obviously very happy with the animal when we got to him. His biggest buck as far a I understand and he was welcome to him with a performance like that. Dragging the buck back to the truck was another story though!
  11. +1 for the 7x50 Meopta. Parallax adjustable scopes look great on paper but with the more economical variable power scopes only served to piss me off when I was out hunting - the target was rarely crystal clear and you simply don't have the time to make the adjustments. I've got a zeiss 6-24x56 victory diavari on my .223 and it's an expensive pain in the arse!! The .22 is basic, uncomplicated slug - I'd keep the scope the same.
  12. Foxdropper came down the other day with his lad for him to have a crack at a Somerset buck. The plan was to have a look at a new piece of ground that neither of them had seen before and the idea was for me to act as guide, FD Junior to shoot and Senior stay at the back and behave himself. Keen to interfere as little as possible FD made the concious decision to leave his binoculars at home on the kitchen table - at least that's what he said. Anyway - they arrived at mine at 8pm and with a 15-20 minute drive to the ground we would be a bit pressed for time. The trip out nearly ended even ear
  13. Had a coke fridge for a year or so and it did the job although the temperature was a bit erratic and I think it was on the blink - one deer I left for a few days was pretty much slow cooked! The condenser unit at the bottom acts as a bit of a step and stops them hanging propery as the neck rests on it but they will certainly do for a few days - for a prolonged hang you probably want a bit more space for the air around it really.
  14. Well, I suppose if I was a real yokel I could just kneel on the bottom of my smock !! Howard+in+smock.jpg good strong look that.
  15. ...or just toughen-up. As the vicar once said 'it'll just be a mild discomfort'.
  16. I can't speak for the other rifle but the HW100 is awesome in its consistency, accuracy and functionality. You've just bought a seriously good air rifle.
  17. No matter how hard you try you can't prevent things going wrong although in this example if everything is how it's described I'm pretty sure the thing was dead anyway. What I can't understand though is if you feel this strongly about wounding why you are taking shots at 60+ meters with a sub 12ft lb Airgun zeroed at 30m? Surely it was only a matter of time!
  18. He's got a .22 mate, just needs the rabbits. Don't seem to be the numbers round here there once were.
  19. It's a 5 frame nuke box - it was certainly buzzing when I took it out the back of the Landy to position it but since then has been quiet. Weather hasn't been great though so I guess they're keeping in, not great to have seen more dead ones that live ones so far though.
  20. Errr..... Help... My nucleus arrived at the weekend just in time for all the bad weather. Not sure if I should be concerned or not but there's a pile of dead bees which have been pushed out the front and I can also see some in the entrance which I'm hoping have just blown back in. I assume some travel mortality is normal but it's not exactly bustling with activity and there must be 30/40 deaduns that I can see. I don't want to rush and inspect them as they've only been ranging for one day and it's quite chilly and blustery here at the minute. I've set up a DIY feeder but haven't seen
  21. I can't wait for my lad to be old enough to come out with me, your little fella looks like he's having a great time! Bucks down here are a bit behind most of yours and only just starting to clean velvet.
  22. I never new the humble .22LR had such complex terminal ballistics! Think of the ricochets you'd get with a. 22LR FMJ if they actually made them - It's bad enough with subs, FMJ would be epic! You probably wouldn't have to worry about lead poisoning with the copper washed high velocity .22 LR as they are so inaccurate you'd probably miss the thing anyway.
  23. It's a Bull-X called Turbo. Finds em' dead quick...
  24. No doubt some 8 year old Chinese kid with an IQ of 1,000,000 is designing a dog app for my trusty iPhone at this very minute... or maybe BASC are putting together a special course in conjunction with Ray Mears and his San Bushman mates for pretenders like me. I can only hope. In the meantime I'll have to put up with the shame and stigma attached to a stalker who doesn't own a dog.
  25. A dog is on the wish list but I'll have to wait until the kids are bigger in a couple of years. In the meantime I'll have to rely on my African Bushman like tracking ability... and my phone.
