Thats one real nice dog there matey all the best with it. Was the saluki/grey out of any lines or just worker to worker ?
-
Sounds promising keep me posted on his progress please mate, This is the sort of ground i run. Loads of ground and loads of rabbits. One cross that looks perfect its the australian cattle dog crosses. A good strong build and intelligent looking. I wouldve thought they would be good for rabbiting in thick woodland ??

Through the summer I've been giving a lot of thought to how my running and ground has changed recently. The stony ground around here has taken its toll on my oldest dog. Hes been used as a rabbiting dog as that's the only thing he's been any good at. He's pretty much retired now and apart from the odd weekend ferreting lives a life of leisure. I'm now left with a bull x Whois ok what I use him for but I won't be breeding out of him. I do have a handy coursing bred dog who if he keeps up th good work in the next couple of seasons I would like to put to a strong mooching/rabbiting bitch as like

i have lost track of the amount of bull/grey xs that make it look hard work or wont do them unless they have back up-yet ive seen the 21/23 tts whippet/grey/sal swim the river and drop them for fun-infact smash anything with teeth-my mate had a coll/whip/grey dog 22 tts that would also smash anything that wanted a fight-some of the best dogs with the biggest heart are the little uns imo.atb I was out yesterday with a salukibullgreyhound she singlehandedly found flushed cuaght and killed it with no help from human or canine. And to look at this bitch you would have to wonder why there are so m

When i was keepering on lambourn downs i usued to leave pigeon and rabbit heads on a post for bops. There was a nice spot where i shot loads of muntjac and fox. If you left your quarry where it dropped though the red kites would soon be on it. I personslly think they account for alot of leverets on that place too.

Lol give your head a shake fella. Poor bloke not a nice way to go at all, there are ticking timebombs of these sorts of dogs all over the country. I know one family who have to sit on the floor as there mastiff wont let them on the sofa !! Also know of a fella who cant put his collie on a lead becuase it will bite him ! My saluki hates the fecker and the bull x tries to avoid it, I think there should be some sort of licence or permit to keep a dog. I know it wouldnt totally stop dickheads owning dogs but it might save a few dogs. Atb

One Thing That Does My Head In Out Lamping
fitchet replied to one more's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
no a few of them lads We got one who comes out with us he babies the dog far too much. Known by us as sticky slip. All his family run dogs aswell. After every run he's checking underneath the dog and it's feet. Even if it's only ran 5 yards lol. Another thing that's annoying is those who can't slip there dogs properly or cough when your squeaking a fox in. -
One Thing That Does My Head In Out Lamping

Lads that big up there dogs prior to going yet when the time comes for a run every excuse is made. Or having to run around waving the lamp qbout shouting the dogs name .,,,, -
Everything I make or buy has got green lipped mussel in it, I love it. Ever had a whiff of nutrabaits "sea monster" additive? Makes your eyes water, along with n-butyric acid and balachan Hutchies monster crab with n butryc. Best pop up flavour ive ever used.

Wernt you also the person who reccomended a shock collar for a dog that yaps while running ? If hares are pest control to you kill enough in winter and you shouldnt need to hunt them in summer. If you hunt them in summer with dogs you have no respect for them. Simple. Atb
-
hares breed all year round !:/ But anyone who tries to suggest that they do not have a period of the year where they are waaaaay more likely to do so (not to mention successfully rear the young) does not know much about the country side! And uses that as an excuse to run them in the summer. There is absolutely no need to run hares in the summer ,those that do so should at least be honest and say I don't give a f**k about sportsmanship, or coursing pregnant /nursing hares and the possibility of leaving leverets to starve to death I'm doing it because i want to. Spot on.

Shame that bossun. Sods law. I must admit i would love a dog of unkown breeding out of good honest workers that have seen plenty. There would be no set "bounderies" with such s type snd if it was any good would be a rollercoster of a career. But for now ill atick to what i know. All the best.
-
Nice old dog. Ever been bred to anything ?
-
I know you can kill the odd one with young in winter but it eases my conscience that im far less likely to do so. So is that your excuse for hunting them in summer ?
-
Yep theres a few on here who do it to get there pics for the winter or just to do it becuase there dogs arnt any good on anything else. But i prefer to wait till hares have finished breeding. Same as any other true sportsman imo. At

If your lamping them qny ditches that lead to cover will bring succes. In my experiance they dont like to venture qway from cover too much. Keep us posted on how you get on
-
Ill probably have a walk round.

Weve had this debate before matey lets leave it at that eh ??

Better of with a good bull/greyhound mate. Seen one from wales work well on rabbits regularly. Dead now. But a bull/greyhound can do all a bull/whippet can do and more ..........

Smashing Through Cover And Fences
fitchet replied to killing crew's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
My bull x is mainly used for lamping and my coursing dog does a fair bit of lamping I've never seen them pull up at a hedge in the daytime. I have seen some who were started on the lamp pull up at hedges and fences. -

Mine are kept fit and entertained by awimming and walking them first thing in the morning and last at night. Where i live is lifting with hares and fox so gotta be careful where i take them. I took my coursing dog out for a walk the other day looking for something to fill the freezer with but was too warm so he only got one run then was taken home. Plenty of nice bucks about though.
