  1. Some do fly during the moult but it takes forever to grow the new feathers, obviously in the wild, a bird has to hunt and cant take a break for 6 months, the moult is slow, but occurs at the time of year when other animals are breeding, so there is lots of young quarry about that is easy to catch, so a missing feather here or there is no big deal.
  2. Do you have many deer, or are they poached badly too?
  3. Daytime rabbiting is good sport mate, and they certainly do come out, but the vast majority will come out at night, so many people choose to shoot them with a lamp or night vision, are your Jackrabbits what we call hares, or are they living in burrows?
  4. .177 everytime mate, having said that, a .22 pellet in the right spot is just as deadly, but I prefer the faster flatter .177 I find it easier to shoot with and after 30+ years of air rifles MY conclusions are that I get more instant kills with .177, but as always others may disagree.
  5. Oh how awful, I do hope Choudary does not get in the way of a bullet too
  6. Sounds like you are off to a good start pal, using the crimp die is easy just follow the instructions that come with it, basically you just put it in the press and adjust it with a lock nut, you can feel the crimp pressure as you apply it, just start off lightly, you can always add a little bit more, and in case your next question is, do the bullets have to have a cannelure, or crimp ring? The answer is absolutely not mate.
  7. It need not cost a lot though, as I said earlier, find a good accurate load that works well in your rifle and stick to it, just try to ensure you can get a ready supply of the components (easier said than done these days) I would advise you to stick to neck sizing cases fired from your rifle only, Lee collet dies are very very good and load some superb ammo and are relatively in-expensive, your brass SHOULD last a good while, I get roughly 8-10 .243 reloads out of my favourite Federal cases, I could probably get more, but as a rule bin the cases after 10, if I get that many, and trust me on th
  8. And when he decides he needs some deer culling(obviously you are going to hint that he REALLY should have a management plan in place) you know who to call
  9. About as acceptable as having a black man play mcBeth, or a white man play Shaka zulu king.
  10. Indeed Dan, shooting at paper its no big deal, but shooting live quarry, you owe it to whatever your crosshairs are on, to KNOW where the bullet is going at a given range, not just a best guess.
  11. Looks a cracking job that mate, good job you are not on "certain" other falconry forums, or some clever tw*t would be telling you it was all wrong, the hat you were wearing whilst using the drill was the wrong colour, your fag was at the wrong angle in your mouth for optimum clearance, and you did not erect it under the full moon, naked
  12. Easy answer pal, Lee case length gauge and cutter, costs about 15 quid all in, checks your case length and trims to factory length if required, check your cases EVERYTIME you load a new batch, then not only do you know they are a safe length, but consistent, which is the key to accurate ammo, also gives you a guide to how your cases are stretching, some hot loads will stretch your brass more than others, but not always, so always check.
  13. Get some poles to poke out the dreys as well mate, shame you cant use a shotgun to blast them, but if you cant, you cant, drey poking is a very good method of reducing the grey squirrel population, and is great sport as well
  14. Well I have things pretty easy as I use a Nikon with bdc reticule and zero bang on @100 yards, then run my bullet type, velocity, bc, ect in Nikons superb ballistic calculator, which gives me aim points out to 700 yards plus, but what I do not do is take it as red that it is all correct, I go and practice, and TEST the aim points it gives me, up to now out to 400 yards it has been bang on, very impressive, if I did not have the Nikon scope I would zero @ 100 yards and practice out to say 300 yards so I would KNOW by trial and error what my bullet drop was, use a chrono, get a proper reading fo
  15. Lee gear is good, dont forget the Lee factory crimp die, in your cit, inexpensive and superb, it can make a real difference to group sizes.
  16. I have tried but am losing patience with him now, reading that is just fantasy island, sorry kid but you are day dreaming.
  17. I think the mk 1 is the best looking one by far, takes me back to my miss spent youth looking at that, good luck with the sale pal.
  18. Personally I love the yank, m65 woodland cammo stuff, I have it in normal and Gortex the quality is absolutely superb, and it is nearly impossible to wear out, becoming a little hard to get now, but a troll of various sites wil still turn up some bargains.
  19. And Deker has hit the nail on the head, once you have found a load that shoots 1/2 inch or less, leave it,I have been rather fortunate in my reloading, in that I have managed to find an accurate load pretty quickly, others have not been so fortunate,I now have a load that shoots (when I do my bit) a lovely cloverleaf group or smaller @100 yards, I refuse to do any more fiddling or playing with seating depth etc that is a super accurate load and that is how it will stay.
  20. No worries, the guy who DID buy it has got a belter.
  21. Brilliant mate, glad its gone to somebody that will use it, he will certainly fill his bag with that rifle, those old school 25mm piston 77s really do take some beating when they are tuned, once you get used to shooting a springer, with their little quirks, I would put a good 77 against any pcp for accuracy
