Hickory, That is an impressive set up you have there. Is the building just for your dogs? It's bigger than my house!! (only joking) I am always slightly envious of terrier men in North America and Australia. The space you have is fantastic, two 50'x50' runs is bigger that my total garden area (NOT joking) As an aside, are your dogs an American line. The dogs (at this distance) are similar to a white line over here. ATB

Anytime L. Just call up. Money is an issue here too. I still have a gate kept closed with 2 blocks. Promised myself I would put a latch on during the summer.

Thanks Skycat, A small hole is drilled just below the water level before it tips over. (This is called a "Tell" in piping). This will shoot out a stream of water a couple of minutes before the tsunami!! What is great about dogs is how well they are aware of their enivironment. Two flushes and they are clued in. The 4 degree slope allows the yard to dry quickly and stop puddles. The dogs pads are healthier and eliminates the use of "Jeyes Fluid" type products. These scented products should be banned from working dog kennels IMO. They contain chemicals which supress the sense o

IMO The concrete slab and drainage is probably the most important part of a trouble free kennel. The slope of the yard should be more than 4 degrees from FRONT to BACK. This is important for the waste to run off easily. Nearly every builder will try to convince you that this is not necessary. They are wrong. They are used to building driveways and footpaths, not animal yards. Build a kerb into the front. And a drain with the same slope into the back of the yard. I prefer an open drain as shown. some people prefer a closed drain. Place an insulated dog box

obi2, My suggestion would be to look at the space you have available and apply some basic rules that would get you going in the right direction to trouble free kennels. If like most terriermen in these islands you are looking at a back garden. and something bigger than a back yard. Then you are lucky enough to have this kind of space to start with. Check the way the Sun reaches all parts of the space available. Then choose your location so that the kennel concrete slab takes best advantage of this position. See the next post for ideas with the slab.(the images are too big for

I think that it's fairly clear in this thread that he wants the IWTF to go it alone? Having a go at an organization who openly supports the IWTF is hardly a great way of expressing his "frustration at the lack of support" as you put it. Frustration usually happens when there is a lack of communication. If there is more information available regarding 1, Progress of affiliation with these Hunting organizations. 2, Progress of the Animal Health Welfare Bill 2012. 3, Progress and updates of any Committee Meetings. How many? 4, Numbers of Clubs and members signed up. 5, etc...

"Just Hunt" can have an opinion like anyone else. There will be many voices in the IWTF, some like terrier shows and other people will think they are useless regarding working terriers. I would thank the Organisers of the Birr show for giving the IWTF the chance to reach a wider audience. They were generous with space, time and tickets to help our cause. It is one BRANCH of the overall strategy that an ACTIVE federation must take. But I can also understand "Just Hunt's" frustration at the lack of support from the wider hunting community (NARGC,FACE,HAI etc..) behind the scene.

The dog (14 year old Border bitch) stolen from a car in Limerick was returned to the owner a couple of days later. If that is the dog you are talking about?

"Dig The Dirt Vol 3" and "The Terrier men of Ireland" are planned I think. Who is writing "Days gone by"

Get well soon and take it easy for a while. We need more men like Barrie.

With Sean Frain's books, the man never seemed to improve his writing style. I also thought I had read the same paragraphs over and over again, so I checked back through the book and found he WAS repeating himself. I finished his Patterdale book and thought it was a disappointment. A book on the Black dogs should be a great read. but IMO Sean Frain lost a great chance to put the record straight. In his books did anyone else get sick of the endless photos of his two terriers running loose with no collars on. If you did a search on this site (or similar sites) you could pull together be

I'll be there......that will keep me and the kids happy for a few hours, can i get any info on what's happening for a bit of a read to see where the club is moving Right now things are working away in the background. Anti's monitor sites like this so the best place to find out about the IWTF is to talk to the lads on the stand at Shanes Castle.

Get in touch with the IWTF through the website. There are good men from the North on the committee.

We are putting it in a frame Neil and it is getting pride of place in the sitting room.I can remember that gun bringing home the dinner as a child(when dinners were hard to come by)it was up on two hooks in the kitchen where us as children could not reach it.My fathers name was Billy Delaney the man beside him was also Billy Delaney(no relation)They hunted for the dinner they dug foxes, but badger digging was their sport(when it was not a dirty word)I remember going on big digs when i was a child, with hard russels and hairy arsed men,and I never saw them being cruel to anything they dug.I remem

Good thinking Irishfoxhunter, hopefully some of the terrier men in mainland europe are familiar with this FACE site.

There are still 8 days to go before the meeting. Could every club and terrier man contact at least 2 other guys who may not know about the IWTF. Also because of the speed at which the Bill may get pushed through. Could we use the time before the meeting to do: 1, Contact your local TD's - all parties, try and get a meeting face to face. tell them about the Bill and how it would effect hunting.(Politicians) 2, Contact your local Regional Game Council chairman, get them on board. Ask them can you use there name for support.(NARGC) 3, Terriermen working with Foxhound and Harrier packs

Just a note to anyone trying to get in touch by phone or text at the moment with Corkman. The submission from the I.W.T.F. to the department is going by registered post this week. There are 7 sections and pages. As soon as this has been delivered, the next task is obtaining affiliation with the remaining groups in RISE. After that it is suggested that a meeting be called to elect officers and reps from different areas. The response from terrier men and clubs from all over Ireland has been so good, that the text messages on the phone will take some time to answer. Things are pr

Im sitting here crying with snots coming out of my nose, the misses is calling the boys with the straight jackets and i have holes in my ozone layer, but i still cant get on the f*****g site. Switch off any security / Antivirus / Firewall - software i.e Norton, McAffee etc. just for this test There must be something blocking you from getting on. If that does not work - Switch the security / Antivirus /Firewall BACK ON again. And throw the computer out the window
-
It might be a bit early for that. Money and working terriers never mix well. IMO To accept donations a structure would have to be in place i.e. Elected Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer. Bank account .... Complaints coming in already about organizations being approached for donations for the IWTF. I have no doubt that Intentions are good, but be careful. JMHO

Liam, This is what you should see at the top of your computer screen while looking at this page. If you type WWW.IWTF.IE in the bar at the top and hit return, it should work. Good luck.

same here jigsaw never got to sign same as the rest who were sitting with us As Bryan said, contact Corkman, Best to send the details as they would have been written on the night. Name; Mobile No; Email; Interest. Corkman may not be able to PM replys to everyone rigth away. It was discussed on the night that a Text message would be sent out to all terriermens mobiles that had signed, as soon as the I.W.T.F site is up and going. Looks like the domain name www.IWTF.ie is available. (It is not ready yet ) More information will be accessible from this site. Pass this informati

The speaker from the IMFHA/HAI made a strong case for terrierwork, one of the best talks of the night IMO. But what made the meeting a success for me was the interest from terrier men to become involved. Everyone attending was asked to register their name /tel no./ and interest (i.e terriers/lurchers/shooting) The numbers have not been checked yet but I will be suprised if the proportion of terriermen is not the largest group. A lot of lads travelled long distances to attend.
