  1. +1 I haven't actually seen the film, but the fact that she could behave like that with a child in tow is disgraceful. What really annoys me is that from what I gather, she didn't actually know if the other passengers where british or not. The colour of a persons skin is irrellevant in my opinion. People who judge others without finding out the facts first deserve to be punished, and people who subject young, impressionable children to that kind of behaviour should not have children.
  2. What a load of crap. If Ian chooses to ban members then that's his decision and his alone. This isn't a democracy, it's his site and he can do with it what he wishes. If ye don't like it, then feck off to jokesshed or whatever other crappy site there is out there. In my opinion, there are too many members here, and a large proportion of them should be deleted. Once upon a time this was an interesting and lively site; these days it's just a big bitchfest with topic after topic about race and religion, and little or no tolerance of fellow members. Keep up the good work Ian, and ma
  3. Are they really that expensive? Considering the potential revenue from a trap, I don't think £7 is that dear. Lets say that to sell them at a profit, the manufacturer needs to make £3 on each trap. Add on some import duty, (I'm not sure how much that would be) and a decent markup for the retailer (35% isn't unreasonable) and then some VAT at 20%, and suddenly you can see where the cost comes from. I run 150-200 traps at this time of year, and wouldn't charge less than £10 per mole. Good traps are an investment, and like any other tool of the trade, you get what you pay for. I'm
  4. PM sent, but lets keep the debate public (and clean). No reason to use PM IMO.
  5. Agreed. Please see my previous posts. Without people trying to improve what we have we would not now have the BMI magnums, tube traps, kanias, or indeed Fenn Mk4 and 6. The difference is that the people who gave us those traps invested in getting them approved for use. They don't deserve to have their products belittled and put down for being too expensive. Disagree. What is a discussion forum for? Is it a place for people to come and tell us how clever they are so that we can all pat them on the back and say 'Well done', or a place to discuss ideas with likeminded indi
  6. Where would modern trapping be without the great trap innovators of the twentieth century? The likes of Frank Sawyer, Reginald Juby, Huw Lloyd and of course Alan Fenn kept spring trapping alive after the ban on gin traps. And let's not forget that in the modern age people like Glen Waters and Phil Lloyd have adapted US ideas and traps to suit the UK, and in the case of Phil Lloyd (with Robin Tarrant) had several designs modified and approved for use in Britain (don't forget that the Magnum 116 is not a standard US trap, nor is the tube trap). Even newcomers like David Holdaway (Trapwo
  7. The design has been around for a while in the US Duffy, and was approved for use in the UK a couple of years ago. http://www.magnumtra.../tube-trap.html The UK version has been modified slightly, with extra killing bars and an uprated spring. The other big advantage is that it has a built in tunnel. The cost is considered by some to be high at £54, but you get what you pay for in this day and age.
  8. You, like Logun are misunderstanding my post. I've no problem with anyone making their own traps. I've no problem with anyone trying to improve the traps we have. Why would I? Without the capable engineers we've had in the past we would probably not have the traps available that we do. I don't even have a problem with Logun, or anyone else who makes traps selling a few to collectors and interested parties. The only issue I have with the original post is that he is making out that those companies that are selling approved traps are somehow 'ripping' people off, and that there
  9. You are so eloquent So someone on facebook has said 'be careful' or whatever and you seriously think that EN are investigating you? Sad. I'm sure they have better things to do than investigate some tight wad trying to save a few quid by knocking up cheap copies of approved traps for their own use. That is, of course, unless you've been selling them.... or using them........ or offering them for sale somewhere. As I said in my earlier post, you are obviously a skilled chap who is interested in improving the available traps. I'm pretty sure that EN have bigger fish to fry.
  10. I for one, doubt that EN are interested in Loguns trap making. While I disagree with using home made copies of traps, there is no reason to stop making them. I'm quite sure that the investigators at English Nature wouldn't be sending messages via facebook if they had genuine concerns. Someone is in fantasy land. Keep amusing yourself and trying to improve what we've got available Logun - just be careful not to be caught using or selling/giving them away.
  11. why building regs ?why would i want to answear you about building regs for ,,?? you must have some interest in the doc trap to be so pissed off lol,, look mate your boreing me now ok,, get a life you sad f**k,,and please dont relpy to my posts .people like you stop the develpoment of pest control. lets end it here now as i feel no reason to try to defend myselfe to a cock who knows jack shit.in fact i think your a sad f****r who hates the thought that someone can think of new ideas and try to adapt them for the good of all on here..i think you hate the fact that you dont draw attension to your
  12. Why would I want or need to take what is an interesting discussion into PM? The exact wording of the law has already been quoted earlier in this thread. So Logun, going to answer the question about building regs? How would you feel if you lost work because someone else was prepared to ignore building regulations to save a few quid?
  13. Logun, please don't think I'm trying to offend you, but your posts are becoming more and more difficult to read. Do you have a spellchecker? I think you are suggesting that you have a picture of a home made break-back trap? As I'm sure you know, break-back traps are exempt from the spring trap approval orders if their intended use is for rats, mice or moles. I also notice that you haven't answered the question about building regulations. How would you feel if you lost work to an enthusiastic amateur who wasn't going to comply with the building regs? Surely the same applies?
  14. So it's £5 for materials PLUS two hours work? By my reckoning that's at least £35. This is all well and good if you have the skills and the time (and don't care about breaking the law), but what about those who are too busy doing the job to sit around all day making copies? i work 6 days a week, from 6.30 to 6.pm running my own construction buisseness, i come home and make things like traps just cause it relaxes me. yes £5 for materials and as im doing it in my own time and dont sell any im making big savings to myselfe. breaking the law ??? get real if i wrote a book about murder

  16. Yes they are. Highways are roads, bridleways and footpaths.
  17. No. Section 161 of the Highways Act 1980 makes it an offence without lawful authority or excuse to discharge any firearm within 50 feet of the centre of the highway and in consequence of which a user of the highway is injured, interrerupted or endangered

  19. I've met him. In fact, I was indirectly involved in the show that is going to be broadcast on Nov 4th. It's scary stuff.
  20. The problem is that most of the decent mods have left. Malt and Simo do an OK job, but the rest of them are a waste of time. Whatever happened to JohnB, JohnGalway, ChrisJones etc. They did a good job and were always fair with folks. There is way too much shite on here, and you don't even have to log on to view it all. Some of the posts on here could cause serious damage to what's left of fieldsports. The 'don't give a shit' brigade should be chucked off ASAP.
  21. Although it is not illegal to shoot a fox with an air rifle, you may be committing an offence under the Animal Welfare Act. The second a fox enters a trap it becomes the responsibility of the person who set the trap and therefore, you have a duty of care to that animal. Sub 12ft/lbs air rifles are not considered to be suitable weapons to dispatch foxes. Contact Urban Fox Control on here, he may be able to advise further, and also offers a dispatch service. You seem to contradict yourself with this comment: If you don't want to create a 'vacuum' then why are you shooting f
  22. The Bethel Rhodes traps need to be tuned before use. You can use flat packs straight out ot the box.
  23. Likewise. It is no surprise to me that he has gone quiet now. No explanations of what this new job could be? Perhaps he's gone back to butchery (Sainsburys meat counter) which I've read him claim he did for twenty years, or perhaps he's got a job as a fishmonger (Sainsburys fish counter) which he also claimed to have done for twenty years.... But I'm fairly sure we haven't seen the last of this catupult maker (yet again, 20 years) who must be at least years old given the number of jobs he's had........ I suspect he'll go back to being a full time benefit claimant and then reapea
  24. It's a copy of the Fenn Loop Trap. I've got a couple here, but I haven't used them.
  25. I can't believe this crap is still going on............ What he's suggesting isn't illegal, although some may consider it immoral. Get a grip people. This is the kind of thread that makes people leave THL. Real school playground crap.
