  2. Good on you both for going out in all that rain! Great pics!
  3. Thanks for all the replies guys!! Ive managed to get him a BSA XL lightening sorted and he cant wait to get it. Like Ditchy said; if he can manage with one of those then why try a different one? Now we wont have to fight over whose turn it is!
  4. When I hear things like this it makes me really angry! I hope he gets them back - poor man
  5. Well done to Bigbob!! Pleased youve got your ferret sorted now.
  6. How right is that! I learned nearly all my ferret info on here by asking questions and I read a few good books too Ive also made a few great mates and have been ferreting with them this season. Ive got my own permission through persistence and a lot of effort. We all have to start somewhere so good luck and keep us all informed.

  10. Here's the update pics as promised. You can see that the meshes are now straight and its much easier tying the net under the desk and sitting knitting! Thanks again for all the advice!
  11. Good luck Compo. Looking forward to your post!
  12. Just a quick update on my net; Its so much better now, I was doing a few things wrong one of which was jamming the net at the top of the door - this didnt give me the right tension, Ive since been threading some draw cord through the last yard and working a yard at a time and the result is amazing!! Ive taken some pics but since Im at work I cant post them until tomorrow But they are coming! Thank you to all who are helping me on my quest to make my first longnet Im sure I'll be back asking even more questions soon!
  13. It turns out one of the onlookers phoned the police They've just been to my mates door (We went in his car) and informed him that you need permission to hunt!! He was pleased to let them know that we're all above board and have all the necessary paperwork to back it up! The police want us to take all our permission to them so they have a copy for the next time we're there - no problem! Especially if it means we dont get hassle!! :black eye:
  14. jultaylor, It looks as if you need to put a bit of preservative and protection on your ferret box, I would suggest a polyeuathane stained varnish. Jamming your made net between the closed door and the door frame is not good enough to keep your meshes level. This is why your meshes have run out. Do what the other netters have said and take about 3ft of 2mm nylon drawcord and thread it through your meshes about 18" away from where you have finished tie both ends together hang over a hook or as I do, the newel post at the bottom of the stairs. Start to net and if your meshes are not level adjus
  15. Neither had I until today We filled the holes in so we'll know if they get back in before it gets finished with concrete after the new year. The park warden was well chuffed!
  16. I had a call recently to clear some rabbits from the local park They had dug under the cenotaph steps and were generally causing a right mess. After having a good look aroud it appeared that there were 3 holes at the front and a well hidden bolt hole at the back in amongst the plants In went 'Daddy Cool' (The pic of her was taken earlier this week) And out came two rabbits within about 5 minutes after lots of thumping around underneath! They were despatched and off we went to the next set - under the shed where all the tools are kept. It was the first time Ive set my new longnet properly
  17. moll ill bet jules bruise wasnt half as big as mine after i sort of bounced then slid into the river well done the two of you I didnt even end up with a bruise! Mind you the one you had when you slid into that river was something else!! It was the biggest bruise Ive ever seen!
  18. So am I!! I think we'd have still been there yet!
  19. What a great day we had! I thought longnetting would be easy - how wrong I was!! Mind you, I have to say its a top quality net off mole catcher, I'll just have to learn how to do it the last set we ferreted was quite something mind! We were climbing through nettles and brambles and at one point I found a good sized hole by falling down it! Then we sat in silence for ages and heard so much thumping underground then a little rabbit shot out of a hole straight through the net! I was well chuffed with how well behaved my terrier was She seemed to pick things up very quickly off Doris and lik
  20. Wow!! Thats very clear. Ive read a few books about how to make a quick set net and after reading that post I now feel that its actually a possibility! Thanks!
  21. Thanks for all the replys guys!! Ive got a yards worth of net coming from the top of the jammed shut door - the rest is trailing in a bag behind the door. Its a very tight fit and it doesnt move at all whilst Im knitting. Im going to re thread my needle and try again following peoples advice.
  22. Ive been making my first long net. Its going to be 25 yards so Im knitting 50 yards for the extra bag. Im only just past the 6th yard and it seems to have gone pear shaped!! Im gutted to be honest I was really chuffed with it until tonight. I'll try and explain ~ the first three meshes every two lines seem to be below the rest of the meshes? The fist pic shows what it was like before tonight and the second pic shows what its like now. What can I do? Is it fixable? Should I just start again? Its only my first net and I could buy them easy enough but Im determined to make my own ~ even if it
  23. I'll second that! You wont get better quality nets!
  24. Hatton (I hope) Ive just booked it, makes me mad to have to pay for it but I cant wait to watch it!
